The skin care industry is a multibillion dollar business, especially when you throw in all of the anti-aging and wrinkle-removing creams. As women want more and more to not only feel younger but look younger as well, this industry will continue to grow. There are so many products, it is hard to know which ones to buy and which ones actually work. But unknown to many, it is hard to know exactly what these products are made out of and what ingredients they contain. Some ingredients in these products can actually get into the bloodstream and produce what is called systemic toxicity. Some skin care products, while seeming to be working, are actually causing more damage than good. Some skin care products have been tested on animals and still others made by the company, Neocutis, have been made with aborted fetal material.

About the Company

Neocutis, Inc. is located in San Francisco, California and is a bio-pharmaceutical company that focuses on wound healing, dermatology and skin care. It was founded in February 2003 as a spin-off from the Medical School of the University Hospital of Lausanne, Switzerland. The company boasts of using a proprietary skin care ingredient called Processed Skin Cell Proteins(PSP®). This key ingredient comes from the skin tissue of a 14-week gestation electively-aborted male baby donated by the University Hospital in Switzerland.  A cell bank was established from the fetal skin which contains cultured skin cells to produce the human growth factor needed to restore aging skin.

Products Containing the Cell Line

There are four products made by Neocuits that contain the cell line from the fetal skin:

Bio-restorative Skin Cream - The first skin cream formulated with Processed Skin Cell Proteins has been "clinically proven to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles after two months of daily use."

Lumiere Bio-restorative Eye Cream - is made with 30% more processed Skin Cell Proteins. This cream is used to revitalize and rejuvenate the delicate eye area.

JOURNEE Bio-restorative Day Cream - "The most complete anti-aging day cream with PSP®, anti-oxidants, hyaluronic acid and UVA/UVB protection SPF 30+ to rejuvenate, protect and hydrate skin."

BIO-BEL Bio-restorative Hydrogel - "Unique Hydrogel Combines the power of PSP® and Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid to help restore elasticity and radiance to stressed skin."

These products can be found all over the Internet, including

Ethical Issues Raised

Using an aborted fetus so that women can look younger raises moral and ethical issues for many. Some pro-life groups are calling for a boycott of all Neocutis products. One pro-life group in particular, called Children of God for Life are suggesting that if women have these products to throw them in the garbage. The group also said that they will "give free publicity to cosmetic companies who are not using immoral ingredients in their products."

Children of God for Life has been a watchdog on pharmaceutical companies using aborted fetal cell lines in medical products and they have received thousands of inquiries from the public on the use of aborted fetal material in cosmetics.  Until now, this was the first time they have encountered any company bold enough to put the information right on their own website and product literature.

Most companies, especially the big ones, do horrible things to non-human animals in order to create products to satisfy human vanity. If you don't like what you read in the article, there's no logical reason for which you should ignore what I say either.

Rosie - thanks for your comment. Yes, there are probably other companies who try to hide what their products are made out of. It really is quite despicable.

      thanks for this info.

I have always wondered exactly which products contain aborted fetal cells. That is such a sick thought that people knowingly do this and use these products! I was wondering if Neocutis was the only company who does this or if there are others and other products??

Finton Wade - thank you so much for your comment. I have not heard about the food enhancers used from aborted fetuses - I will definitely look into this. Thank you for sharing - we really have to be aware!

Laurie - thanks so much for your comment. It is indeed very disturbing that some companies use aborted fetal material for cosmetic reasons. It is hard to believe that there are those who still use this particular anti-aging cream knowing the ingredients but not caring because their first priority is trying to look youthful.

Sue - please don't beat yourself up over not knowing this. These companies don't often disclose this information so it is hard to know. There are so many beauty products out there that it is hard to do research on every single one of them. Be Blessed.

IslandVoice - we do have to be careful about which products to use. Hopefully one day we can put a stop to such atrocity.

I heard about this a long time ago, and have been very conscious, whenever looking for a skin product to use. It's a terrible crime, but it's happening right under our noses. God have mercy on the perpetrators.

this is definitely an eye opener. I think I can't be any more appalled at humanity and then wham! I could not for the life of me imagine using a product like this - but many are oblivious.

Amazing how people would literally "kill" to look young again. An eye-opener of a hub. Solid information. Thanks.

Ken - thanks for reading. It is sick to think that companies think it's ok to use aborted fetuses to help make women look younger. Sicker that some of these women know what's in these products and continue to use them.
