Sleep disorders due to shift work and its effect on body harmony

What does" EARLY TO BED AND EARLY TO RISE MAKES YOU HEALTHY ,WEALTHY AND HAPPY"mean to you?

REPORTS like

  • 1. Many of The Medicine students perceiving house surgery suffer from acidity due to irreular Sleep.
  • 2. Women Nurses' with " Rotating Night Shifts" have greater risk of Breast Cancer .
  • 3. Regular travelling across different time regions causes health problems.
  • 4. Soft ware,B.P.O, other Shift works can cause depression,cradiovacular disorders,reproductive disorders .

Alarming ! All the above are due to lack of proper sleep at proper time causing alteration of circardian rhythm( of the Master clock) in ones own body

Master clock

A French astronomer Jean Jacques Ortus de Marian noticed that the leaves of plants move up and down each day in time with the 24-h rotation of the Earth.The plants isolated from the daily light-dark cycle still moved their leaves so that they drooped at night and raised up during the day even though the plant had no direct contact with the light-dark cycle. He believed that an internal knowledge of time was present in all living beings.

This clock called "Master clock" has oscillation near to 24-h under constant conditions and this is known as the "free-running rhythm" (circardian rythm)of the clock.

This biological clock is adjusted to environmental time by, many factors like Light, temperature, food availability, social contact etc .

But the most reliable indicator is the Light and the 24-hr change in the quality of light at dawn and dusk provides this time signal.

So body's basic activities are linked to extenal light (especially) and other factors.

The start of activity signalled by dawn (first light of day) losts for a span of 12-hr.

The light pulses given to person during his day would have no marked effect on his internal clock, but light given during the first half of the night will delay the clock - so,the person will start his activity late the next day. IN contrast, light given during the second part of the night will advance his clock - activity will start early the next day.

Thus light around dusk will delay the clock and light around dawn will advance the clock.

So the phrase- " EARLY TO BED AND EARLY TO RISE MAKES YOU HEALTHY ,WEALTHY AND HAPPY" is true.

This master clock exerts control over entire body through peripheral clocks present in different organs and tissues, by influencing secretion of neuro transmitters and hormones..

If this clock's timiming is altered by late sleep,night shifts etc,can lead to alteration of normal body functions.

Some of the disorders due to clock distubance include.

  • 1.Psychic diorders - Depression, Alzheimer's disease, insomnia .
  • 2. Heart Ailments- altered B.P,Heart rate
  • 3. Digestive disorders - Acidity,Constipation,Irritable bowel syndrome,,,
  • 4. Reproductive disorders -Breast cancer,

So sleep late at Night or never sleep to make extra Income or whatsover

and be ready to fill your Doctor's Purse. :-)

      I agree with you redelf. Like sleep disturbance related health problems, now a days people suffer from so called unclassified mental disorders. These also pave way for facinating study. Thanks.

      I like it that way because happiness I believe comes from possitive out look to life..and as to have sleep at right time you must plan to finish  your work  early, to awake before sunrise when ur alarm rings you must not be lazy . Both of these attitudes require you to be possitive mentally.. and possitive person can always be happy.
