Smooth 5.65 Treadmill Review - A Value Buy at $999

Updated on June 20, 2012

Smooth 5.65 Treadmill

The $999 price range for treadmills is extremely competitive. There is something psychological about a price being 3 digits rather than four. There are countless brands vying for the potential $999 treadmill customer. At that price range you are in the high-end of the budget treadmill category. Consequently, you are not always assured of getting a durable machine. Treadmills must withstand the constant impact that comes with walking and jogging. They must be build to hold up to abuse.

One of the better values at $999 is the Smooth 6.65 treadmill. Smooth has always had one of the most durable treadmills at $999, which is evident by the fact that it comes with a lifetime motor, 5-year parts and 2-year labor warranty. Typically you find that kind of coverage on treadmills that cost $1,500 and more. The warranty speaks volumes to the degree of maintenance or service required. If the Smooth 5.65 was high maintenance the company would go broke covering the extensive warranty.

The Smooth 5.65 treadmill comes with a 2.75 continuous duty HP motor, that is powerful enough to handle users at higher speeds, and heavier weight individuals. You get a 20" x 55 walking surface, which is adequate for average to slightly above average height individuals. The shock absorption does a good job of reducing the impact and stress to your joints. The Smooth 5.65t also comes with speakers and an MP3 input so you can listen to music as you burn the calories off. You get 14 challenging programs to add variety to your exercising. Speed and incline controls are located on the handlebars, making adjustments easily accessible.

The Smooth 5.65 treadmill is recommended for moderate usage, primarily walkers and light joggers. For more serious users that run regularly or for multiple users, you will want to upgrade to a treadmill in the $1,500 plus range.

Note: The Smooth 5.65 treadmill is only sold online. My review is based on personally visiting the corporate headquarters, where I tested the machine and talked to staff about the machine mechanics and service history.
