Starting A Daily Exercise Routine

Updated on March 12, 2010

One of the most popular goals in self-improvement is losing weight and staying in shape. Losing weight and keeping in shape are two different goals but ultimately they can both be achieved the same way. In order to achieve those goals you need to have a good daily exercise routine and stick to it consistently. The first thing that you should do is to set a goal weight, or at least make a determination to keep fit so you know your target and you can work to reach it. Some people like to turn to a personal trainer. However, you can plan it all yourself quite simply.

Keep a daily exercise journal with all the different exercises and goals that you have set for yourself. This is a great way to track your progress, and keep yourself accountable. You can do this simply on paper or if you are more technically inclined, create an Excel document. Then, it is just a matter of choosing the right outfit to wear for your workout routine. A good pair of soft trainers can help you get excited about working out and walking so they should be a carefully considered purchase. You will want to make sure they are very comfortable.

A pair of sweat pants or shorts is perfect for working out in, depending on the temperature and climate. Once you have the right outfits, you need to plan your daily exercise routine. It is always wise to start out with walking. This is a sure way to burn calories and to really tone your body up, as well as a great warm up to more intense workouts. You can bring along a friend, dog, or just your iPod for company and to help give you that extra push if you need it to keep moving and burning calories.

If walking outdoors is not your thing, then a walking machine gives you just as much help in burning calories. You can invest in one to use in your home at your own pace or you can join a gym and take advantage of their walking equipment. An hour of good solid walking each day is the perfect start to a daily exercise routine. Once your body gets used to the extra strain, then you can add some extra moves to your routine, such as stomach crunches and leg lifts. All that you will need to do is around 10 minutes of each different exercise. Remember, music helps you to time yourself and to keep your body moving. Getting into a regular routine and working out at your own pace will aid you in reaching your perfect body weight, and getting, as well as staying, healthy.
