Stop being tired - Live Energetically

Updated on March 19, 2014

An advertisement pictured a man of about fifty years, stumped in a chair, head in hands, face showing abject despondency. The caption read: “Have you that gray sickness – had awake, half Asleep – half alive, half dead?

A pathetic aspect of life today is the astonishing number of tired and weary people. Many give the impression of crawling through life on their hands and knees.

But you can live without tiredness or fatigue. You can maintain energy and vitality. Surely our creator meant us to live with continuous vigor, for the entire universe is charged with renewable energy. Since energy maintains itself steadily in the natural word, we must believe it was also meant to do the same in your life and mine.

In my house are two clocks. One is eight-day type which I wind every Saturday night. But there are some Saturdays when I forget, or am away, and on Monday or Tuesday it stops. The other cock is electric, and because it is attached to the continuing energy in the universe it never runs down.

You can attach yourself to the continuous flow of God powered energy through definite techniques of faith, right thinking, sensible living. By such practice you may possess an unbroken supply of energetic force and never suffer from the “Gray Sickness.”

A prominent personality returned to his boyhood home to find relief from heavy burdens and there took his life, ending a notable career. An editorial writer, in commenting said, “He was a tired man. He went home to rest, but apparently had forgotten how to rest. “Then the writer added, “Unhappily, many of us seem to be in the same pathetic situation. We do not know how to rest.

Indeed it seems that many have to snap, no verse, no vibrancy. The CDT’s have them in their grip; Cares, Difficulties, Troubles. The conflicts and confusions of the word have seemingly invaded their time, they need to be connected to the illimitable energy- renewing power in God’s universe.

A method for ding this is illustrated by an experience in a Midwestern city. In a shoe shining I noticed that the chairs were more comfortable then such a place usually offer their patrons. A man entered and, with a sign, sank down beside me. “ I don’t particularly need a shine, he said, “but I get to tired that I come here how and then to rest in these easy chairs.”

He was a friendly – looking man of early middle age, so I said, “You shouldn’t be tired, a young man of your age.”

“Oh, I’m not so young, “he said, “I’m fifty-three.” Then he added, “I sometimes wonder whether I know how to rest. Do you?”

We discussed the subject and presently left the place together. Standing outside, as we continued the conversation, I said, “May I give you a suggestion about resting? Please don’t think I’m a busy – body or trying to preach to you, but really I do not think you are tired in your feet. Your weariness is probably centered in your mind. So the cure is to refresh and re-stimulate your thoughts. One simple technique is to repeat to yourself a half-dozen times every day, until it deeply penetrates your consciousness, the familiar Bible passage: ‘But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mountup with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.’ (Isaiah 40:31) And there is another ‘My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.” (Exodus 33:14).

“I knew the first one,” he commented, “but am unfamiliar with the second.”

I repeated it. He thanked me and, watching him walk away, I felt that I would see him straighten up. He turned, smiled, waved to me, and disappeared into the crowd. I never saw him again. Perhaps I never shall. No doubt he wonders who gave him such curious medicine; but I was merely acting as an agent of the Great Physician, who teaches that we do not need to be weary of suffer fatigue, that we can have continuous energy of body, mind, and soul.

We are at last realizing that health and religion, scientifically used, are closely related. We are now learning the important truth that one’s physical condition is determined to considerable extent by this emotional and spiritual condition. The emotional life is very profoundly regulated by our thought pattern. Hitherto. People have rather generally accepted the notion, long current that a middle age vital energies must begin to decline, and that one must thereafter carefully conserve himself in order to keep going until his older years. We have more or less passively accepted to the inevitability of aches and pains and general deterioration which advancing years are expected bring upon us. Sometimes, with a kind of pious attitude, we have ascribed these physical conditions to God’s will, accepting a state of decline with resignation.

Personally, I do not believe this point of view is valid. It is my conviction that we can go on living with aliveness, and the secret of so doing lies in a dynamic religious philosophy. The outstanding concept of the Bible is “life”. Jesus said, I am come that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10) if you fully practice the creative and recreative principle of Christianity you can live with vitality long past the period of life when energy is supposed to have gone by.

Have you not observed some people who live to a great age, but still have adequate energy and impressive vital force? How are they able to overcome deterioration? Their sustained vigor is simply because they have achieved harmony with the basic sources of vitality and energy, have adapted their thought patterns to dynamic faith and enthusiasm. They have demonstrated that by eliminating hate, worry and tension, and by the application of simple rules of hygiene and mental health, they can avoid tiredness and have continuous energy.

Have smiled, waved to me, and disappeared into the crowd. I never saw him again. Perhaps I never shall. No doubt he wonders who gave him such curious medicine; but I was merely acting as an agent of the Great Physician, who teaches that we do not need to be weary of suffer fatigue, that we can have continuous energy of body, mind, and soul. The secret of a continuous power – flow is in adjusting yourself to God’s controlled pace and tempo. Synchronize your thinking and living with God’ unhurried timing; God is in you, and if you go at one rate and God at another, you will tear yourself apart. The maintenance of energy, the absence of tiredness, depends upon being in the natural rhythm of God.

This identification of the personality with that even tempo and rhythm basically inherent in life is one of the surest ways of eliminating destructive fatigue. Constant excitation of the emotions, plus over – stimulation by hurry and hecticness, draws more heavily upon the supply of energy than our naturally stored – up resources can resupply. But when you synchronize yourself with the harmonious flow of energy at the normal rate at which it moves when measured in God’s natural world, you will then be living on the emotional level which God’s natural world, you will then be living on the emotional level which God intended. And when you do that you are not likely to break down. On the contrary, you will have steady power.

A woman execute had over – driven herself without regard to her diminishing energy supply. Her reserves depleted, she was unable to fight off an infection. Due to lack of physical recuperative resources she was forced to leave her work for a lengthy period of convalescence.
