Surely I can!

Updated on July 8, 2011

A personal perspective

Did you ever feel unsure or have doubts? We all from time to time have to make choices that are not so easy and we may experience anguish and stall the inevitable. I truly believe sometimes that we avoid taking action because we are afraid to fail. Failing at something can be devastating and can affect our self esteem and our self confidence. The reality though is that through failure we can learn and adapt. If we don't try we will never know and that to me is far worse because we will seemingly question whether we could or not and the not knowing to me will never leave our mind. We may conveniently tuck it away in the inner recesses of our brain but not completely eliminate it from entering our psyche on occasion.

When we attempt something we perceive as difficult and we succeed at it we feel good and this helps us in developing our confidence and our willingness to take on more challenges in our lives. Conversely if we fail we need to pick ourselves up and not give up. Just because we tried and failed does not mean we can't try again and succeed. We have to find that inner strength that helps us to feel comfortable when we try new things in the presence of others. When we are called upon to perform or to answer a question we usually feel the butterflies in the pit of our stomach which is natural. I remember whenever I had to take an exam, no matter how much I was prepared for it I would still feel nervous and have some anxiety which can be a good thing because it means I had an interest in doing well and that I cared. We don't wish to crawl into a shell and hide when we feel overwhelmed. We need to find that special feeling of believing that we can which we all are capable of, and adopt it in our daily life.

I have always talked myself into believing I can and I prayed to God to help me at times when I felt down or had doubts. We all have to believe in ourselves because if we don't no one else will. We also have to learn from others and from our personal experiences and our interactions with all that come into our life circle. I have learned a great deal about life and hardship from my own personal experiences that have helped to shape me as a person and give me the courage and strength to live my life and do all I can to achieve and provide for my family. The most important thing in my life is providing for my family and helping our son to find happiness in his life and to never have him feel alone or different from others. I want him to gain strength for his specialness and to feel inspired. If I can not provide that source of inspiration to him then I hope he will find someone who can.

I have learned that it helps to have friends and others in our court who encourage and listen to us. We all need a sounding board so we can gain perspective and realize that we are not alone. We may be alone in making our final decision but leading up to it we must know that there are others we can reach out to for help or guidance. We must never feel alone.

The beauty of being a child is although they have fears they are not afraid to try new things. They don't analyze and question themselves like adults do. They just act and do. If you were to introduce a kid and an adult to the ski slopes and gave them both a lesson with the same dedication you would most likely see the kid succeed first and see them display an eagerness and willingness to learn and ski down the beginner's hill. Kids don't get lost in their thoughts like we do. Their innocence protects them and they are a good source of inspiration because they believe they can. We all need to have that little kid within us so we can feel free to believe and achieve.

Did you ever wish to succeed at something so intently that you would do just about anything to make it happen? I know I have felt this need for both personal reasons and out of necessity. I know I have experienced some memorable and truly wonderful accomplishments in my life and when we feel we have done something truly remarkable we derive joy, pleasure and a feeling of personal fulfillment. This makes our life more meaningful and we then move on to the next goal we have set. It is sometimes hard to put into words the pure joy we feel when we have accomplished something we put all our heart and soul into. Lives have changed as a result and although we may never achieve meteoric success we still should take pride in all that we accomplish and never compare ourselves to the super successful because it is not fair to us.

We live in an ever changing world with free exchange of ideas and we see the success stories and sometimes although we have achieved our own personal success we don't always feel successful when we see those who have truly hit the jackpot of unhearalded success. Just think of the things we have integrated into our daily lives like personal computers and facebook. These did not always exist. They were the ideas of visionaries who saw the need and had the dream. They believed in it and they made it happen. It astonishes me how someone is led on the path to such innovation and resounding success. We all would love to have a brilliant idea that takes us to another level but we sometimes have to face reality and just do the best we can. We all are capable and if we are blessed with a great idea and a plan there is no reason why we can't have an impact and make a difference. We just need to believe in ourselves and have an idea that will benefit all. For all those who have a dream, take heart and believe for if you have a vision, an idea and a plan and you have the desire to show the world then you may very will be that next true success story. Believe it and it will happen!

Thank you! I write from within and I try to express what I feel at that moment and encapsulate it into something meaningful and I try to add my personal experiences or thoughts. I draw upon many things and my intended purpose in writing is to try to find a way to inspire my son who is autistic and anyone who needs a pick me up as I believe we all do from time to time.
