Sweet Dee's Salty & Sweaty Life

Updated on February 1, 2016

Ke'ei Sunset Session

Aloha, and Welcome to my Salty & Sweaty Life

Aloha, and welcome to my salty & sweaty life.

I had a realization occur the other day; I am part of a very small percentile that lives the way I do.

Yes thats right, I am living in a tree house with a pagoda style roof, at a 2nd world farm called The Dirty Shack. The location is prime, an appealing view that overlooks Kealakekua Bay on the Big Island of Hawaii. I wake up every morning to the sounds of the leaves bristling in the wind, lovely birds chirping away, the neighbor's dogs going crazy (all fifteen of them), a rooster that just established it's vocal chords announcing it's excitement for the sunrise, or my personal favorite, hearing David Bowie blasting from my roommate's space just below mine. My day's start off on the right foot, always.

I share a space with six to eleven people at any given time; all roommates partaking in the same sunshine reality. We all share an amazing creative space, and each person brings their amazing gifts to the table. This ohana never falls short of fun, community, giggles, good food and friendship. We each have something to offer one and another and we are so grateful for our experiences! The house consists mostly of ladies at the moment, excluding my lovely surfer boy & other half, Jon. Between my roommates and I there is so much skill, hobbies and interests walking in and out of the house each and every day, from gardening, yoga, energy work, ethnic cooking, music & dance, expressive art, painting & drawing, healing modalities, amazing adventure stories, talk of travel & wanderlust and so much more! Every interaction helps one another to learn, grow and open our eyes to future passions. Sharing a space with so many people from diverse backgrounds really starts to expand your consciousness beyond belief, and helps one another to realize how simple and beautiful this Earth we share is!

Sharing a little bit about myself and how I ended up on the other side of the world; I guess I'll start out by saying I really like cookies and ice cream, like A LOT. I'm obsessed with Van Morrison & Fleetwood Mac, and I make more people smile daily than any college degree could have by working at a local sweet shop. Sweet Me, Sweet Dee. I was born and raised in NJ and decided to move out to the Big Island at 21. I started my crazy Salty & Sweaty life here. I decided the real world was not taking my soul at such a young and didn't want anything to do with it. I wanted to be a mermaid, a goddess if you will, an Earth angel.

I've experienced a lot in the past few years, and really got a grounded understanding that life experiences and good hearted people will teach you more than any college class can. I had a really hard time standing my ground and sticking up for myself. I didn't have much moral support from my family about my life choices, and moving half way across the world, and that in itself was very hard to over come. So I guess what I'm saying is, it hasn't all been easy. This is where you will really get to know me. A lot of people see my photos and my life style and think I had everything handed to me. I actually worked so hard to get where I am today, and I still do! I know that being persistent and always coming from a place of heart will help you advance on your journey more then anything else! Lessons have hit me square in the face, and have helped me to open my eyes even more and see the world from so many perspectives. At one point I felt emotionally depleted as I watched myself live a life that other people had created for me. Since then I have taken matters into my own hands and decided its time to create for myself;

This is just a intro to my Salty & Sweaty life, I am trying to do a blog that focuses on topics of Travel, Spiritual Healing, Creating Energy, Healing Yourself, Awakening, Progress & Hardships, Family & Community, Books that will expand your consciousness, Health & Creative Expression and so many other things!

Aloha, and welcome to my Salty & Sweaty life, you are considered my Ohana.

Mahalo,

Sweet Dee
