Symptoms of ulcerated colitis

The most known characteristic of ulcerated colitis is bloody diarrhea.

The next most common symptom of ulcerative colitis is having false urge to pass stool,you may get a persistent pressure to go to the washroom ,and when you sit to pass the stool you may just pass some gas or a little blood ,or little stool ,total number of actual bowel movements and false urges indicates how severely you are suffering from colitis (2 to 5 trips to the bathroom in 24 hours indicate a mild attack and 5 to 10 trips indicate moderate and 10 to 20 trips indicate severe attack of colitis)

This false urge is due to inflammation and spasm in the rectum area.We feel that our rectum is full of stool ,to go to the toilet but when you sit to pass stool there is nothing of the sort.

Apart from blood in stools and frequent visits to the bathroom many people suffering from ulcerative colitis experience crampy pain in the abdomen ,low down on the left side,across the upper and lower abdomen ,you may feel your stomach being squeezed and may run to the bathroom.

Other symptoms of ulcerative colitis is reduced appetite ,weight loss ,fever, chills and sweats .It varies from person to person,some have mild attack ,some get severe attack.

There is a fullness in the right lower part of the abdomen because the stool piles up in the ascending colon during the colitis attack ,the colon is completely inefficient to empty itself when there are flare ups even if you go to the bathroom on urges .

A most important thought that haunts people's mind is that ,are people suffering from ulcerative colitis sick all the time ?

The answer is NO,they are not sick all the time ,they are well between the attacks.In some people colitis attack is frequent where as in some people there is a huge gap between the attacks,keep away from stress as it may trigger your problem .Do prayanam and get yourself treated by a doctor and do not ignore it.,Check the food you consume ,as it is seen certain food triggers your problem more.

Have plenty of water and apply coconut oil on your naval button to avoid constipation.

      Thank you for a well written, researched and interesting article.

      I suffered from UC for some while before it was diagnosed, but by then it was too late and I was rushed to hospital to have my colon removed. I very nearly died and consider myself very lucky.
