Please read what has happened as a result of walking...Some refer to my journey as a 'battle'. I do not call it that at all. It is a reawakening, a rediscovery of self and of being true to my mind, body soul.
Falling into the cadence of the earth...feeling the pulse of its heart as each footfall touches the soil brings the full measure of peace and contentment into a soul.
Inhaling the cool air as it rolls over the hairs on my skin, causes breathing to become one with the rhythm that has coursed through the planet down through the ages and helps to keep me grounded, centered.
Walking outside in pleasing surroundings washes away any negative thoughts and feelings and lands me right smack dab in the middle of joy.
What is a weed? I have heard it said that there are sixty definitions. For me, a weed is a plant out of place. ~Donald Culross Peattie
Weeds are flowers too, once you get to know them. ~A.A. Milne
Feathery weeds gently swish in the breeze
Each day on my walks a new vision of the plants, be they grasses or weeds or wildflowers, ,presents itself
The least subtle change in color or size makes the new walk a brand new experience.
A gentle breeze ever so deftly moves these seemingly ordinary plants in a beautifully choreographed ballet...swaying in time to the earth's pulsing.
"Rejoice for your soul is alive."
It is a glorious and lovely time.
If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has power to move you, if the simple things of nature have a message that you understand, rejoice, for your soul is alive.— Eleonora Duse
Whispy Little Plants Dancing Happily in the Morning's Sun
Ever Changing, Reinventing Itself Each Day
How many times I have walked outside and not bothered to become immersed in each wonder there is to behold.
How could I have not been marveling at each new discovery that appeared?
Natural beauty surrounds me each time my walks take me on trails, along beaten paths, through neighborhoods It only takes an instant to become filled with the energy and yes, excitement, that awaits with each step.
Shifting my gaze heavenward, an orange sherbet sky holds me spell bound each time I am privy to an awakening new morning and the ending of yet another day's cycle.
Videoed while walking so a bit shaky but the little guy is too cute to miss.....

To Some It May Seem Mundane
Is it just me?
A fluffy weed swaying gently keeping time to an unseen orchestra holds my attention every time.
The subtle colors of greens and browns which have been painted on these seemingly fragile plants captivate me as I wonder at how its possible to have so many hues of one color.

Walking Walking Walking
"Where is she going with this?"
"Why all this ramblin' about getting in touch with this and that? Appreciating what? Grasses? Weeds? Ok, that's a stretch." Surely must be some of the thoughts crossing through your minds as you kindly meander down this page.
The point I s'pose is :
we renew our body and minds as we get much-needed exercise in the out of doors.
For me it is ME time even though most of the time I walk with a dear friend. It is time that I put everything else on hold...few things are more important to me at this point than this time I take to walk.
A few weeks back walking came back into my life and has become essential to me ever since.
Usually I walk in the morning but if am unable to, the evening works too.
Morning walking sets the tone for the day. Returning home refreshed and renewed, I am able to tackle the day's activities with new energy, feeling totally uplifted, energized, and upbeat.
Evening walking helps wash away any stress that may have crept in that I may have not addressed earlier
Lovely in Their Simplicity
I believe a leaf of grass is no less than the journey-work of the stars.— Walt Whitman
Time..Who Has the Time?
Fortunately I am retired. However rest assured that my retirement is not sedentary. My plate is full each day. NO, I do not check in with a boss anywhere (I am CEO of all). So while time is an element for me too it is a bit more fluid than it was when I was working.
The thing is....we take time for what is important...working or not.
I had to let hat settle in for a moment...
we FIND time for what is important to us.
That is how I came to begin walking again.
Bowing Gently as We Pass
Rhetorically asking....what do YOU take time for each day?
- a stop at the local pub for a brewski with friends
- a cuppa' at the local coffee house
- lunch at a fancy diner
- over-the-top dinner
- a really decadent dessert
Whatever it is, you make time for it.
What is important to us we find time for, don't we?
Perhaps finding a balance is the key....finding time for some of the pursuits (above) AND making time for nurturing our body and mind can happen.
I have chosen walking because I honestly feel better from head to toe ...emotionally and physically.
Taking care of our bodies and minds is our way of giving a gift to our families...we are saying that we care enough to be sure our bodies are healthy and in the best shape possible.
To my way of thinking, there is no better gift we can give...
Being well mentally and physically,,,,uncluttering our minds and stretching out our bodies is renewing.
Yet Another Surprising Beauty Along Our Way
a lovely walking, cycling trail that will take you to and fro...Gainesville and Hawthorne
Weeds are flowers too once you get to know them.— A.A. Milne
Surprising little pools of water await deep into the wooded sections of the trail
Singular and exquisite in its simplicity--growing unattended along the trail
Unexpected Splashes of Color Greet Us
The palette of greens and browns predominate especially at this time of year. A gloriously rich deep brown bed of pine needles is underfoot for any who stray off the trail's macadam surface.
Infrequently a surprise awaits.
A perky, sassy blossom is nestled among the pine needles...defiantly living in among its much stronger counterparts.
A lavender blossom and a sunlit bloom appearing unexpectedly are more treats to be found along the way.
Not all weeds are created equally
Okay, yes, I get it.
Some weeds are pesky and invasive and unwanted and make us want to scream.
My garden has more than its share of them.
There are both weeds and grasses that are enchanting and glorious to behold that occur naturally in nature.
Watch for them on your next walk....
Hoping to hear of your walking experiences....O, yes, lots of cute critters along the way too but that is another story...
For too long I let my personal needs slip away.
And that was not a good thing.
Choosing to begin walking again has been one of the best gifts I have given my family and me in many years. I am new, from the inside out and am getting stronger every day.
Find time for you.
Carve out those moments when you walk somewhere for a bit each day.
See the beauty in the weeds and grasses that you encounter along the way....
A weed is not just an unwanted intrusive interloper.....it is yet another carefully sculpted piece of art that will enlarge our lives if we allow it to do so.
Let that smile steal across your face when an unexpected sassy little blossom catches your eye...
You will be so thankful that you do.
