The Oz Effect

I have used some of the remedies recommended by Dr. Oz in the past with mixed results. When I saw the episode that mentioned tamanu oil, my interest and curiosity were definitely piqued. I am a long time holistic health practitioner in my spare time and have done an extensive amount of independent research on alternative medicine in the past twenty years. That being said, some remedies are hits, but many are serious misses. I was more interested in the effects of tamanu oil in particular though because I have used essential oils in the past with overall great success, including coconut oil and emu oil. In my experience, oils tend to be pretty spot on with their traditional uses, slightly more so than other general alternative treatments and remedies. I decided to do my homework, which was much more extensive than I initially expected. Most herbs and oils have maybe a handful of treatments and potential uses, but tamanu oil had so many uses that I am still not sure that I have found them all, and plan to update this site accordingly as I find breaking new uses for this oil of the gods. Have you found a new or unique use for tamanu oil? Did you have a positive experience with tamanu oil? Don't just keep it to yourself, help everyone by getting the word out!

The Many Uses Of Tamanu Oil

Oil Cleansing Method

A hot new trend has started among those that are seriously into facial skin care called the Oil Cleansing Method or OCM. This method of cleansing the face involves using oil to clean the skin instead of soap or other drying agents. Tamanu is reported among those who try this to be the best oil for this procedure by far.

For Ringworm

Many people have started talking about using tamanu nut oil in the treatment of ringworm with success in both pets and humans. I don't have any direct experience with this, but I did get an email from a friend that tried it and believes the oil helped get rid of ringworm completely.

For Dogs And Other Animals

This wonder oil is soothing and healing to humans and the same goes for pets. As a bonus, the oil is gentle and irritant free which makes it super safe for your furry friends. Many are starting to apply the oil to the ears of cats in the treatment of ear mites, which can be extremely difficult to get rid of and a very irritating problem for your pet. It's most definitely worth a try!

For Dry Skin

Tamanu oil is known as the best moisturizer ever among those that have actually used it specifically for that purpose. Tamanu nut oil has a very high absorption factor and is easily soaked into skin in minutes, leaving little to no residue or sticky, greasy feel. It even works well on serious problem areas, such as the heels of the feet and elbows.

For Hair Loss

It is rumored that while people used tamanu oil for hair, they realized that as their hair became fuller and thicker, that actually more hair was beginning to grow. There is little formal study on this aspect of tamanu oil, but as I see it, why not give it a try? If nothing else, what hair you do have left will become more dense as a result of the treatments and since it makes skin really soft and has a pleasant smell, you don't really have anything to lose by trying it.

For Damaged Hair

I personally don't believe that anything can truly repair highly damaged hair, only change the outward appearance of the follicle over the short to mid term. Having said that, tamanu oil is one of the best conditioning or hot oil treatments I have ever used on my damaged hair. Once I started using it I recommended it to all of my friends and family, and have never looked back since. If you spend a lot on your hair or on therapeutic treatments for your mane, you really should try tamanu at least once. It works better than any other conditioner or masque for hair that I've ever tried in my life. You won't be disappointed.
