Tell Your Doctor if you have Liver Problems… Tell Your Doctor if…?

Updated on January 26, 2014

Take the Pill and Get All Better Right?

Tell Your Doctor if you have Liver Problems… Tell Your Doctor if…?

“Tell your Doctor if” Yes that is what starts out with nearly ever single warning on a prescription. Shouldn’t the Doctor be telling you?

Are you as sick of Pharmaceutical Television ads as I am? They make it sound like all you need to do is take "Pill X" and your worries are over.

Simple tests are required to find out if you have liver problems. Blah! First off since when do patients tell their Doctors about liver problems? Isn’t it the other way around… shouldn’t the Doctor be telling the patient what kind of problems they have? Otherwise why would a “Patient” even need a Doctor? Sure I suppose there are times when you go from one Doctor to the next and they may not run the same tests over again. But shouldn’t a Doctor read your medical history? If a Doctor is relying upon a patient to tell them what problems they have then that patient is in some pretty serious trouble if anything is truly wrong with them.

And isn’t it good to know that “Simple Tests” are all that is needed to determine if you have liver problems? Gee go ahead and take our drugs because all you need is a simple test to see if it completely destroys your liver. Then what? Yep the simple test shows I now have liver problems… now what? Turns out repairing a damaged liver isn’t so easy. Turns out there is only one liver in your body and you can’t live without it. Turns out it’s not so easy to get on a liver transplant list and the supply is pretty limited. So don’t worry… go ahead and take our drugs, because all that is needed is a simple test to determine if they have damaged your liver beyond the point of repair. But don’t think you are going to sue us. Didn’t you read the microscopic print on page 3 of the ridiculously complex little piece of paper that came with your prescription?

Let me give you an example of what should be on the Television Commercial as these are REAL DOCUMENTED side effects of a popular Anti-Depression drug. After you read these side effects you’ll wonder why anyone would take this drug. Seriously this list makes depression sound like a god send in comparison.

Duloxetine (Cymbalta)

Potential Side Effects:

  • Bizarre behavior
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Vomit that looks like coffee grounds
  • Uncontrollable shaking of a part of the body
  • Antidepressants can increase suicidal thoughts
  • Problems with urine flow
  • Cymbalta may cause dizziness
  • It is not known whether Cymbalta will harm an unborn baby
  • Agitation, hallucinations, fever, fast heart rate, overactive reflexes
  • Unusual bleeding
  • Memory loss
  • Severe or persistent trouble sleeping
  • Stomach pain
  • Bloody or black, tarry stools
  • Trouble urinating

Cut to happy lady skipping merrily though a meadow of fresh flowers. Thank God for Cymbalta the drug (like many others being pushed on the public for profit) is so dangerous it shouldn’t be sold to anyone. The fact of the matter is Doctors do not really know how most drugs will effect a person or what happens to their brains over the long term as they are constantly bathed in these chemicals. But there are big profits in Pharmaceutical Drugs so who cares right? If you have a loved one who is depressed you may want to consider helping them find non-drug solutions. Altering a person’s brain chemistry with drugs is a very dangerous proposition.

Hippocratic Oath

What does this mean in modern medicine which is being driven by Pharmaceutical Profits? Do no harm?

What can a Doctor Really do for You?

Assuming you find a Doctor that will actually take the time to perform the tests necessary to obtain an accurate diagnosis a Doctor can do the following:

  1. Drug You
  2. Cut you

That’s it. Doctors are not Gods, they are Body Mechanics. They can not “make you better” they can only provide you with the information you need to change your behaviors so your body can heal. Outside of infectious disease or pain management most drugs will not help you heal. Most drugs will actually make your condition worse over time. Why? Because people think they can continue on the same behaviors and just take the drugs and everything will be okay.

FYI: Just for fun I’ve included the Side Effects of Marijuana from the National Institute of Health. Looks pretty tame compared to the side effects of the Legal Anti Depressant Drug Cymbalta now doesn’t it.

Nice eh? Take Cymbalta and roll the dice. So what if your throw up vomit that looks like coffee grounds... just tell your Doctor!
