Ten Fun Nutrition and Health Facts

Updated on January 17, 2012

from "Journal Watch", "Medscape", and "Harvard Women's Health Watch"

1.) Eating a small handful of almonds or walnuts each day lengthens life.

2.) Fish oil is good for the heart, kidneys, and mood.

3.) Eating raw broccoli is associated with less lung cancer in smokers.

4.) Ginger lessens nausea. Be careful with ginger. It's a blood thinner.

5.) Two non-alkali-processed pieces of dark chocolate the size of Hershey's Kisses each day will lower your blood pressure by about three points.

6.) Losing just ten pounds can add years to your life, plus health to your years.

7.) Walking only 20 minutes per day improves mood and heart health.

8.) An apple a day really does keep the doctor away.

9.) There are more healthy antioxidants in coffee than in vegetables. Up to five cups of coffee in a day is associated with health benefits.

10.) Tums (or their generic) are the least expensive calcium supplement for strong bones. Take them with 800 IU of vitamin D3 daily to ensure they get absorbed.

I have discovered Ambrotose and other Mannatech supplements, and I get just about all basic nutrients my body needs.

Though your list is excellent, I just can't see myself doing all ten, every day. Some I would 'cause I like them, but even so, not daily.

      Nice (short) hub. :)

Great stuff, didn't know coffee had healthy antioxidants, and I rarely drink it. Hmmmm! I am going to get me some dark Hershey kisses, my blood pressure has gone down since I started exercising more but hey it can't hurt. :)

Dark chocolate is only beneficial if it's not processed with alkali. The benefits aren't even that far reaching, as they pertain mostly to ATP production "hopefully" lowering blood pressure via vasodilation.

      hi, primpo,

i bet what you are referring to is green tea's ability to kill cancer cells in a petri dish. i think we've yet to know if it works in vivo. green tea definitely is associated with health benefits, though. you can't go wrong drinking it.

good work on the coffee and chocolate. just remember that it's possible to over-do the chocolate if you eat enough to cause weight gain.

thanks for the read and comment.

Some good advice there, and easy to follow as well.

I,m not so sure about trying to repel doctors by waving apples under their noses though. It might get me arrested.
