Heart disease can destroy a family . How it hurt mine and what i'm doing about it.

Updated on April 22, 2012

Hard on a family

Heart disease can and does destroy families.

This has touched my family more than once. My Father and one Brother died from heart disease I also have the two brothers who have survived it with open heart surgery.

I am close to 50 and trying to take care so I do not join them any time soon.So here is some of what I have learned in my attempts to learn how to keep myself from suffering from heart diseases .

The dough boy

How is the belly? I was thin until my thirties then I worked for a few years as a mobile locksmith. I would spend ten to 14 hours a day in a truck going where AAA sent me to unlock cars. I put on about 25 pounds. Next I met my wife believe it or not I made a key for her car at two in the morning in a rain storm, And two months later I asked her to marry me.

Being married and eating well I gained another 15 pounds. I gained a belly.

Here is what the medical community has to say about it.

People with belly fat have a much higher chance of heart disease. Belly fat is more metabolically active in a nut shell it means more problems from cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar. So we all need to loose belly fat.

Low fats not so bad.

The first thing I did was learn about low fat food it's easy to learn about cooking low fat.

Cook with olive oil it has nothing bad for the heart and adds a great flavor to most foods. You can buy mayonnaise , margarine, cooking spray, And many other foods with olive oil instead of other less healthy oils.

Exercise. I hated it at first.

My wife is the driving force for this. I work hard my job is physical I come home tired. That was my big excuse. My wife started without me, boy that got my attention fast.

Inactive life style puts you at a much higher risk for heart disease. Just raising your heart rate for one hour every day can reduce your risk greatly. I tell my wife hey honey I know how to burn some calories . She just says shut up.

I started going to the gym with her each night I hated it at first but as my energy increased I started to love it so the" I'm tired" excuse no longer works. Do not let it work for you either.

Don't do it simple as that. And that's all i got to say about that.

As always I hope to amuse and make you think. Little changes make big differences in life. I still have some belly fat but less than when I started this new phase of my life. Working out is getting easier with more of it. We can not afford to eat out often but when we do it is Subway instead of Micky-Ds . I can't change what happened to my father or brothers but I can learn from it and try to avoid the causes. Wishing you the best health and happiness. Thank you for reading this Bri.

I have one last thing If the date is before 06/02/2012 please help me raise funds for the Denver heart walk I am walking 5 miles on that date and need to get donations for the fight against heart disease . Thanks in advance. Brian C

Good tip on fat and cholesterol. However, cholesterol does not cause heart disease. It only exacerbates it when the injury had been inflicted that graduate to a heart disease. That injury is caused by free radicals. In your family there might be a predisposition of the arteries to accumulate cholesterol which can be avoided as what you have been doing. But take care of the free radicals. Good tip on exercise and smoking. It is the free radicals and X-rays in cigarette smoke, not the tar, that cause heart disease and cancer. I have a Hub on this topic. Tobacco plant accumulates radioactive materials like lead 210 and polonium 210 that produce free radicals and X-rays when they decay to lead 206 which is stable. Lead 210 has a half life of 22 years; polonium 210, 136.4 days. That means that if a smoker quit there would still be lead 210 in his body for 44 years producing free radicals and x-rays. Antioxidants like colored fruit, berries, grapes. currant, eggplant, broccoli, lettuce (lolo rosa variety) melon, red rice, tomato, and many more prevent heart disease.
