Keeping Safe- In Haiku

When you leave today

Don't forget to lock your doors.

Carry pepper spray.

***************

Walk with the others

While going to your same place;

Don't walk alone in the dark.

**************

Know your location

Have your cell charged and ready.

Nine one one can help.

**************

As you drive away,

Know that there's gas in the car

So you'll get home safe.

Local Violence

On an average work day at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, in the Outpatient Department, a man brought his elderly mother to her physician's office. He was given the news that his mother would not recover by not being able to walk again. In the news story, it was told that this man shot the physician, then he shot his mother, the patient. Afterward, the man shot himself. As I was acquainted with people who were in the actual location of this terrible crime on that day, I immediately felt concern of the anxiety and fear levels that the hundreds of people who work in that facility.

It is truly the shame that someone could only handle their stress with a weapon such as a handgun. Such crime had already been committed in the heart of that man, by contemplation, and then by following through. If only he could have felt safer. His intolerance to reality took him to the limit

Now schools are less safe and so are places of entertainment.. The individual states and local governments in the USA are working hard on legislation to protect us. It is time to do our part and support the positive interventions that will keep illlegal weapons out of the hands of those with wrong intention.

Being Safe On The Internet

On Social networks, such as Facebook, one has the opportunity to meet new people. It can be a good experience as well as a scary experience. No one can tell what motives one has in mind when posting things. There are people that have the opportunity to lie, Personally, this writer is straight forward and honest. Also, there has to be a limit to what audience one wants to be seen by. Privacy settings are essential to the safety of the individuals who go on social networks.

According to Wendy Boswell, About.com guide, the letters in the beginning of a URL address, "http" stands for "huper text transfer protocol". The letters "https" stand for hyper text transfer protocol with secure sockets layer". When this writer initiated her page on the social network, a friend had advised to apply the https to protect who could see what is displayed. This is just the start of securing your data and info. Following through on all suggestions given to secure your social webpages on its Privacy settings will cause less chance of letting an unwanted fan or follower to show up in your personal cyber space.

A SPIRITUAL RESPONSE.

My prayers for all those who were involved go out. I can only ask God to forgive his soul and only the Lord knows his true spiritual position before his tragedy occurred. But what about the rest of the population who is to react to such a violent situation? Some may be angered, some may be fearful. I know that the believers in Christ have the solution right in their hands.

There is POWER in Prayer and Thanksgiving. Thank God for the very breath in your body to produce an appreciation for the life that God has given you. Thank the Father God for the birth of His Son Jesus and for the true purpose why He came to this earth and died and suffered on the cross for us in order to receive the Promise of Salvation. And, importantly, Forgive others and ask God to forgive our wrongdoings to Cover yourself from the wiles of the evil plots and actions made by certain individuals out in the community.

THE BEST WAY TO PRAY

The following verses are prayerful thoughts. Read them audibly and to present them to God in the Name of His Son Jesus. He is there listening. He shows delight in Prayers by bestowing Grace and Mercy on those who seek Him with diligence.

PSALM 23, OLD TESTAMENT, King James Version:

"THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD.

I SHALL NOT WANT.

HE MAKETH ME LIE DOWN IN GREEN PASTURES

HE LEADETH ME BESIDE THE STILL WATERS.

HE RESTORETH MY SOUL:

HE LEADETH ME IN THE PATHS OF

RIGHTEOUSNESS FOR HIS NAME SAKE.

YEA, THOUGH I WALK THROUGH THE VALLEY

OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH I WILL FEAR NO EVIL.

FOR THOU ART WITH ME

THY ROD AND THY STAFF

THEY COMFORT ME.

THOU PREPAREST A TABLE BEFORE ME

IN THE PRESENCE OF MINE ENEMIES:

THOU ANOINTED THIS HEAD WITH OIL;

MY CUP RUNNETH OVER.

SURELY GOODNESS AND MERCY

WILL FOLLOW ME

ALL THE DAYS OF MY LIFE:

AND I WILL DWELL

IN THE HOUSE

OF THE LORD FOREVER."

There is comfort and strength through the power of Prayer, as Jesus did when he died on the cross.

Spiritual Preparedness For Danger

To Be safe you must put on the armor that God has instructed in St. Paul's letter to the Ephesians:

"For this reason, take up the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand your ground on the evil day, and having done everything, to stand. Sand firm therefore, by fastening the belt of truth around your waist, by putting on the breastplate of righteousness, by fitting your feet with the preparation that comes from the good news fo peace, and in all this,by taking up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God."

Hi CMC - It's a very sad story that you've shared with us and it reminds us of how such problems and worries within us can build up and lead to the manifestation of heinous acts that we might not commit if someone had been there earlier for us to lessen the burdens that we were facing.

It's depressing to see and hear people reaching the end of their tether and feeling so desperate enough to take the lives of others, especially their own loved ones. Unfortunately this will go on and the only way that this can be prevented is by reaching out to these people earlier and being sympathetic to their situation and doing all that is possible to help them.

Thanks for sharing your important message in this hub.

The 23 Psalm has always been a comfort for me, especially in times of anxiousness. I simply picture myself lying beside the still waters, and in seconds the anxiousness fades away.

The environment is getting a little bit more shaky lately to be out there with out a Spiritual Shield, Kalto. You have to get up at least ten minutes earlier each day just to prepare yourself mentally and spiritually with what's out there. So Be Ready. And Be Careful. Thanks.

YES! I heard about this. Oh my goodness! Horrible, just horrible. P.S. I love Psalm 23 (and 27). Thanks for giving me more details about the John Hopkins incident.
