The History of and How it Works

Updated on August 8, 2015

S. Daniel Abraham introduced slim Fast in the 1970's. He is responsible for a number of innovations in health care and nutrition and philanthropy. He started the Slim Fast product line with a few products from the Thompson Medical Company. It peaked in popularity in 1977 and continues to be a popular weight loss method today.

3-Meal Plan

The Slim Fast diet program began as a simple way for people to manage or lose weight. They were instructed to have one shake in the morning and one in the afternoon followed by a "sensible dinner". The plan included a sample menu with ideas on what a “sensible” dinner should be. The diet also included maximum water intake.

New and Improved

The modern advancements in health and nutrition led Slim Fast to make some changes to their original 3-meal plan. The weight loss supplements did not have a high enough concentration of protein and people felt hungry much of the day. We now understand that people must eat more than 3 times a day to maintain an active metabolism. Slim Fast now offers a full line of products. There are meal replacement shakes that have all of the added nutrients and protein that you would get in a full meal except with the optimal ration of fats, carbohydrates, and calories. The meal plan includes more fruits and vegetables and a healthy weight loss goal.

Slim Fast also has a product line of snacks. These can be added to the Slim Fast Diet Plan or they can supplement your current diet. There is also a list of healthy snack choices included in the Slim Fast Diet Plan but their products provide you with the convenience and nutritional values that you need for a healthy snack choice.

The Plan

A healthy diet consists of 3 meals a day, 3 snacks plus plenty of water. The Slim Fast Plan is now a program that recommends 2 shakes a day, one healthy dinner and 3 healthy snacks. There are a number of flavors to choose from, many people appreciate the convenience of getting their nutritional needs met without the planning, and preparing of traditional diet plans. The Slim Fast Diet Plan is flexible. It can be used alone or incorporated in your own diet. This plan can help you learn how to eat properly and works as the foundation of a healthy lifestyle change.

Weight loss programs will only benefit you if you follow the instructions and adopt an exercise program. It is always recommended that you visit your doctor before making any changes to your diet and exercise. It is also ill advised that you take any supplements or diet pills without consulting your doctor first. These can be harmful even if they boast that they are natural and they can affect any medication that you are taking.

The Slim Fast Diet Plan is a program that has proven results and an innovative company with your best health in mind makes it. Take control of your health with a plan that promises results.
