The Truth Behind Sauna Weight Loss

Sauna weight loss claims are all over the internet. They say that if you spend just 30 minutes in their saunas you will lose up to four pounds. If this sounds a bit too good to be true, that's because it really is. That is not to say that you shouldn't use the sauna, and that you might not be able to use it to make it easier for you to lose weight.

The up to four pounds of sauna weight loss that the ads are talking about is just water weight. While you are in the sauna the high temperatures will cause you to sweat. Once you leave the sauna and drink water to rehydrate yourself the so called weight loss will come back, or at least the majority of it will. Some of this weight might have been water retention from high salt levels in your body, and since you lose salt when you sweat you might not retain as much water after visiting the sauna.

So how can you achieve true sauna weight loss? Well, you can use the sauna more as an addition to eating right and exercising. Sometimes people put off exercising because they don't like to be sore afterwards. A nice visit to the sauna can help with the sore muscles so you will be ready to go again the next day and continue with your exercising. You can also use a sauna visit as a reward after exercising to help motivate you to stick to your plans.

Because the sauna is relaxing, it can also help you to deal with any stress that you might have. One of the common problems people have is emotional eating, such as mindlessly munching when you are stressed. If you deal with the stress, it will be easier to stick to the diet plan that you are following since you will be less tempted to eat to deal with emotions.

Therefore, although you don't really get noticeable sauna weight loss just from spending a short time in the sauna, it can still help you with your weight loss efforts. If you enjoy the sauna, add it to the other things that you do in order to increase your chances of weight loss success.
