Real Talk - Life choices we make

Updated on March 10, 2013

Our ears and eyes may decieve us, but our decisions when acted upon or not is tough to reverse

We have a choice to be made, which way to turn now

"I always tried to figure that part out about life, where people make certain particular choices ending in either good or bad outcomes." This tends to be the average persons thought, after noticing things in occurrence each day. Sometimes you can look from the outside of that same persons situation and think to yourself, "Yikes!, What were they thinking", OK, actually most of the time a passer by will think that as well. Many folks do indeed make some pretty weird choices and this hub will address many things people choose to do.

This isn't to place judgement on anyone, but it is being written to point out the fact that by making such a choice, and any choice we decide to make, we all must bear the consequences for any actions taken or inaction as well.

Either way this author tends not to be to concerned about what other peoples life choices are to much, but does indeed hope that anyone reading this article will decide to at least think about their own life, and mirror things a bit as the laundry list of life choices, both perceived as right or wrong here, has been focused upon and thoroughly broken down into the most simplified terms possible, and for everyone to understand all throughout this article.

The Sedentary lifestyle choice that many are born into

Turning off the idiot box aka Television

Look at that good ole idiot box, "yeah I stated it alright, I.D. meaning identity, I.O.T. meaning, I'm not really sure" and what its done to most American children, and now video games, and all the electronic gadgets we have today, where they seem glued to them with no vision at all of true reality, is a crying shame to tell you the truth.

Watching television for excessive amounts of time is one sure way to ruin your mind "Isn't it", or that of a child's mind. The medical issues one may have as the years (Probably 20 years +) go by is definitely that of a mental disorder to arise, and if not properly treated can and will cause severe damage to all of your love relationships in life, and love connections.

Let the truth be told, this country and all its media moguls, propaganda, local and world news programs, advertisement campaigns you name it, and the likes has placed many Americans under a deep comatose state of mind.

This all being done merely by allowing such a thing as television to exist, and now even it faces extinction today due to the widespread Internet usage and online cyber life activities. It's so powerful on all telepathic wavelengths, that it has paralyzed even the global economy into its high tech compelling virtual grips.

This person remains immobilized all day clicking away, and for much of the day. Look at that plump belly, this is sedentary

Choice to not let go of addictions

Loss of a career for those so addicted to TV that they've gotten glued to their sofa's (Thus the name coach potato), and loss of financial stability is also imminent due to over exposure of watching cable TV as well. Remember the good old days when we had TV antenna's and watched shows like Flipper, The three stooges, C.O.P.S, various soap operas, Miami Vice, Little house on the Prairie, Hill Street Blues, oh and lets not forget the Honeymooners, etc...

The key today in life as a whole is balance, and no matter what you choose in life to do, even addiction to that of the Internet is unsafe (FB Social networking and cyber addiction is real), and damaging mentally as well as physically for that of the eyes, and a persons posture.

Choice of achievement - such as graduating college

I think that if one is determined enough to achieve something in life, they also must think about all that it entails to get there, they must do the heavy research needed to get there too, because there's loads of pitfalls up ahead in the road to life that many people have the slightest clues as to what they will be up against in attempting to take that very next step.

Making the right choices in life is a key essential today, what decisions you choose to make depends on many factors, some are environmental, others may be of a personal preference, and then there's outside influences, friends, peers, colleagues etc...

Choose to be positive about life, that one is definitely admirable

The choice to drink alcohol or do drugs

Chemicals are hazardous to organic life, but at the same time they help to sustain life as well, but why is it that when someone chooses to consume certain substances, and in high volumes does this decision tend to render them in the worst case scenarios.

Well, going back to the initial part for this entry, chemicals are hazardous. Now as for the drinking of Alcoholic beverages, there are safe limits, and then there are obviously preposterous levels that can lead to addiction and or sudden death on a moments notice, as well as contracting a slew of diseases of immunodeficiency (Inability to fight off diseases, and its an acquired health issue, and some unfortunate people are born with it as well.)

For anyone to decide to take illegal drugs is pretty obvious, that by the terms definition it is something of a most wrong or shall we say bad decision. The effects of such a choice in life is catastrophic for those individuals, and shall not be written about here in this article any further, because it would be overkill to point out the obviousness that most people have seen just by watching television or movies.

Becoming desensitized to reality is what has occurred to most of us in this nation of the U.S., and to such issues because we've seen so much of it. Its almost as if, drugs were never a problem at all today, because people seldom talk or write about it anymore.

Most people worry about drinking and driving after the fact

Good or bad choice in the end, you be the judge

This life choice being taken by those individuals who are ignorant to such a fact, need to adhere to taking the time to learn all about what it is that they're getting into. Poisons do indeed exist in nature, and in many differing forms, but no one in their right mind would go up to per say a cobra viper, and squeeze it like and orange for its venom to drink it. So why is it, that when poisons are marketed and sold on the shelf in per say a convenience store, people go and decide to drink it in the first place.

The keyword here is, marketing, and then there's influence by others, in which has massive potential to turn many innocent children who have no knowledge of its harmful usage, into a drug addicted victims. Many who may even one day desire to give such a poison a try at house parties, after school experimenting with friends and there's loads more possibilities of cases in real life where even parents promote the killer poisons as well. (Smoking in front of kids is the number one advertisement in the flesh, and drinking beer is number two)

Yes, the author of this article is demonizing the Alcoholic beverage (link to an article about the true health risks associated to the harmful party drink) issue to death, because so many people partake in making the wrong choice as to abusing the drinking and promoting of such a dangerous chemical, and go to the furthest extent to even deciding to drive while intoxicated (mainly because by that time they have no idea what the hell their doing, nor will they even remember "I been there before and survived it too"), which we all know where that lead them at, 9 times out of 10.

Choice to celebrate moments and be entertained by others is easy

Men's basketball game as seen from the student section at the Kohl Center

We celebrate the moments of our life by each and every choice made, its easy to enjoy it all, but tough to do what's right

One thing that's is a predominant fact is that many folks are programmed to fail, to succeed in life, and also to become lost in it all. Everything you can imagine and not is potentially possible today, because all of the precursors for such things have been setup already, and unearthed for humanity to select, and a plethora of choices are here to do anything we desire within reason. (Us humans are definitely programmed to jump for joy during celebration times, holidays, and much of the joyous occasions we have to enjoy together, its worldwide, and its tradition)

This is something that the system of this Country has installed, and its called commercialism. being programmed to accept things such as legal drugs at store fronts being sold to adults, and the rules for minors not to make the purchase are also in place.

At one time however there was no such regulation, and it was also OK for kids to purchase cigarette's once upon a time, because this author use to buy them for his grandfather.

Let the games begin!

One things for certain, celebrating life's moments are all so simple to do for those who are spectators (Maybe not for those who work so hard behind the scenes to make all these life events happen, many folks forget about them and their duties that are indeed a reality of good decision making whether its a job, task, or not), but when it comes to doing what's right for oneself, well that takes true willingness, and efforts to make happen.

The other thing is that, many rules that are in place today have made things so tough to get something done (for example: applying for a job online, as opposed to on the ground), that some people have given up completely before even trying to get anywhere, or have tried countless times by see no end in sight to their failure to succeed.

So making an effective accurate, and precise decision to do something much more productive, rather than just watching a movie, or drinking a beer with friends, smoking a cancer stick, or simply socializing with buddies at school, is a truly huge task mentally for most individuals who lack the know how to get it done. (This isn't an excuse for those who indeed procrastinate {link to a very helpful hub by a fellow hubber and friend Billybuc, which inspired this hub article to be written}, but it is the number one reason why many youth of today, and adults may appear to have fallen into a deep slumber as well in their lives)

Thanks @Lord De Cross for sharing and for commenting.

Yes indeed Joseph, life is no joke when you make the wrong or right choices, and things tend to manifest itself super quickly today for some odd reason.

I guess the lord has picked up the tempo on things, while mankind seems to have slowed their livelihood down for the most part, with all this convenience and all, plus the poisonous toxic environments we live in.

@ImKarn23, thanks Lesilie for that cool comment, yes drinking anything toxic is plain ole dumb, but to each ones own right!

I guess like the saying goes, "we all reap what we sew".

I think however if it never existed in the first place, this planet would be a much better place indeed, and that goes for all chemically life altering drug substances that many has made from earths precious resources.

Mike pal, you said it right. I remember very well those shows from our earlier years. Choices and decisions that we make in life. Some got married and regretted it, and some never did and still did regret it. Life is full of circles that we will have to close, and not fall into a fake loop with one way alley like drugs and alcohol. I didn't expect less from you. Your upbringing made you to excel and keep on studying until the very last hour on earth. Thanks for the series buddy!

Mike - this is 'REAL'ly oh-so-true - the choices we make form our lives - and, it's a lazy, hazy world we now live in!

I am a firm believer that alcohol shouldn't be legal - i believe it is the number ONE ruiner of lives - from any and every walk of life! I am a libra - and balance and justice seem to weigh heavy in my life - i can't understand why folks continue to take the road most traveled - considering where that road has led us..

Are we too afraid of change - or of standing out - that causes us to make choices which are detrimental both to ourselves and to society as a whole!

I absolutely loved this hub and found myself nodding in agreement as i went..

Thanks Ruby, I just made achoice recently that has life altering potential, and it deals with the ways I will be recording my Youtube videos, and so I hope this one is for the betterment of myself, and others as well.

Life is tough, but whne we choose to make the more wiser choices, well it appears to get a lot easier over time, and much happier too.

Great article Mike, We do have to make choices everyday. We can either choose to sit or move, drink or not, eat too much or not, smoke or not. The most difficult thing i ever did was stop smoking. It will soon be nine years and i feel so much better. I think moderation is the key. Thank's for sharing..Awesome write..

Cloud Explorer, you have some very good advice in this work you have done. I try to allow two hours each day for concentrated work time on various projects that I have, the rest is spent in house work, outdoor work, and kicking back and watching the tele for a while. I don't really feel that I have been negligent in my to-do list and am able to accomplish all that I want to in my daily time. Thank you for sharing this timely piece. whonu

Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart, I have been pressed for time lately, but I am so happy that folks can relate to this subject of Life choices.

We all have them, we all make them, and then there's that good ole word "Consequence".

I think life is definitely loaded with wise decisions we must all choose to make, and responsibility, accountability, and follow through is something paramount to us all.

When we back out of any given situation we had at first brought into our lives, then again we will see the end results, its what we do in reaction from that point fourth that shall determine the next outcome as well, and this cycle will repeat itself until our lives have bcome well defined, and this is what I have determined is one truth that no one can ever deny.

As they say for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, and as Physics has it, that statement is oh so true!

Thanks for sharing with me, and I hope to be able to visit many of you all soon, who decided to share with me here. I also welcome all other whom may be reading to join in on the convo as well.

Cheers to being real today! because there's nothing else like it in the world. Oh and cheers to awesome hubbers who really care for people of the world today.

Voted Up and Awsome. Excellent hub about choices. I haven't made the best choices in my life but I'm not perfect either. I think the choices we make are also influenced by the way we grew up. Growing up with extremely abusive parents who cut you down for 18 years doesn't do a lot of good for your self worth or self esteem which would tend to carry into your adult years. I get bursts of self worth and self esteem then get kicked in the head by someone who is mean or in my current case a broken ankle. Is it still possible to be successful when you are middle aged and have to start over again? I'm trying really hard but slipping fast. Does that make any sense?

Choices-----when I hear someone say "I don't have a choice" I always think to myself..we really have a choice about almost everything. ..This of course can be good or bad. You did a great job here on sharing your feelings and excellent ideas on the phenomena of choice. Love the photos and examples. Voting up and sharing.

Yes, it's all about the choices we make isn't it. We can choose to get real or just let life pummel us. By my lights, the Internet robs us of time more than television ever did. it is an addiction, as you point out.

Great hub and you hit on so many things that do affect our daily lives. I think the one thing I see is a desensitization of many things. Society is almost like walking robots, falling for the next trend, materialistic, and nothing is shocking anymore as we have seen it all. To be productive in a human way, we must get off the couch, push away from the computer, and give of our selves..This was fantastic. Will share for sure

Yes, Mike we all make choices. My choice to quit my job as an accountant (sitting at a desk all day) has been replaced by writing for a living (still sitting at a desk all day!). I lead a sedimentary lifestyle and it shows, but the truth is my heart and soul can deal with the appearance of my body as the result of my choice. My innards flow, but the muscles have become flax. My heart soars, but I'm no longer stressed. I make my own hours and don't compromise my ethics in my newfound profession. All in all, I'm happy with my life choices,
