Updated on June 21, 2013

Nutmeg for diarrhea in infants and children

Nutmeg is very effective for diarrhea in infants and children. Nutmeg can be powdered or grinded to give to children. Nutmeg should be grinded against a stone (a clean stone) so that the paste will be obtained. Rubbing in stone is the best method to get nutmeg paste. A little amount of nutmeg paste is enough for giving to children. Half a teaspoon is the ideal dose for children. Adults can have one teaspoon full of nutmeg paste. The dose is same for nutmeg powder.

Children below 1 year should not be given honey. Honey can contain spores of a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum, which can germinate in a baby's immature digestive system and cause infant botulism, a rare but potentially fatal illness. Please don't take any home remedies without checking with the pediatrician. It isn't worth the risk

      Hi,

After reading these articles I am very surprised that the mixture of honey and nutmeg for children helps with diarreah,

I always believed that honey should not be given to children under 1 yrs as it could be harmful, due to infant botulism,

Look this up first before giving honey to babies under 1 yrs..

happy to know that you are from Kerala. I am from Kottayam. You just give nutmeg honey mix once..It is not good to give everyday. You can give 2 or 3 times till the problem is over

I think home remedy is best for diarrhea. ..give arrowroot powder porridge..this is a good remedy..you may get arrowroot powder in medical store..prepare black tea and add little lemon juice to it..this is sure to cure diarrhea....do not give milk or any milk items....give baby bread and black tea...this will make diarrhea go off...
