The dangers of *MSG* - Monosodium Glutamate

MSG and the dangers

Did you know that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allows for Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) to be used in almost every processed food that we consume and give to our children, even though they are aware that this chemical is poisonous to the individual's health?

Monosodium Glutamate is the Sodium Salt of Glutamic Acid. The Sodium Salt of Glutamic Acid enhances the flavor of the processed foods, but the side effects caused by this harmful chemical can be alarming for the individual. This deadly chemical, MSG has over 25 names such as “Natural Flavoring”.

When MSG is taken in large amounts, may cause chest pain, sensation of facial pressure, severe headaches, burning sensation and sweating. The uses of MSG can cause severe health problems such as: Brain damage, ADHD, Asthma, Alzheimer's Disease and certain neurological diseases. Although the uses of MSG have been reduced since the 1950's it is still a major issue that we face today. Almost every product now contains this harmful and deadly chemical.

The use of a deadly chemical in our foods should not be an option, rather an illegal move and should be banned by law. There should be a punishment for those who use MSG or any other chemical harmful to the human health. Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is an addictive substance! Since its introduction into the American food supply fifty years ago, MSG has been added in larger and larger doses to the pre-packaged meals, soups, snacks and fast foods we are tempted to eat everyday.

The FDA has not set limit as to how much of this neurotoxic chemical can be used in foods. The FDA simply refuses to acknowledge these people have the sense to know what hit them. The FDA has absolutely rejected all research on MSG and lied, saying they could not find any. Perhaps no single existence has been more completely black listed by the US Government as the rational discussion of MSG and its affects on people. There must be a very top priority reason for such a thing. By the FDA's own permission, around 73 percent of all food complaints are aspartame related. A few of the 90 documented symptoms listed in the FDA Adverse Reaction Monitoring different types of symptoms that include the migraine and seizures and worst yet lymphoma, birth defects, and diabetes.

In his Book “Twinkie Deconstructed”, Steve Ettlinger talks about his journey to discovering how the ingredients found in processed foods are grown, and manipulated into what America eats. This is a very eye opening book for people to read and discover the secrets of the processed foods and their labels. Ettlinger starts the book by explaining why he actually wrote the book in the first place. It started when his kids were asking him what Polysorbate 60 was, after finding it on an ingredient label. He realized there were so many things in the foods we eat for which he did not know the origin, and decided to look into it. Chapter by Chapter, Ettlinger examines the Twinkie ingredient list in order to know what exactly is used in this product. For the consumers who have wondered what Polysorabate 60, High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) actually are, where they are from and why they appear in food.

Ettlinger begins his book in the wheat flour in Maryland, where the Twinkie’s main ingredient is processed, bleached, and vitamin enriched. Sugar, comprising almost half the Twinkie’s weight, provides color, retains moisture, and adds flavor. Eight of the 39 ingredients are made from corn, of which corn syrup and HFCS represent the third and fifth ingredients (water is the fourth). Corn thickeners keep the cake springy, while the aforementioned polysorbate 60, cellulose gum, serve as emulsifiers in place of real cream and eggs. Artificial flavors (butter and vanillin) and colors (Yellow No. 5 and Red No. 40) round out the major ingredients and give the Twinkie its sweet vanilla cream taste and dark orange color.

In the 1980’s research indicated that there were very few problems with the use of MSG and many recommended it for everyday use.One research indicated that MSG was found on all the materials consumed by humans, thus the use of MSG meant no harm to the humans.Another research suggested that MSG only helped the food to taste better for only a very little amount and that it would be safe to use. A better understanding of MSG came in the 1990’s when this chemical was tested on animals and showed huge signs of health problems. One issue was the killing of memory cells that helped with short term memory.

Did you know that Aspertame (ASP) and Neotame can cause brain damage to the unborn fetus?Aspertame is by far, the most dangerous and addictive substance in the market, is an artificial sweetener that is composed of methanol and aspartic acid and not only that but the real ASP is made from the feces of genetically modified E-coli bacteria. ASP has many huge bad side effects not only in children but adults also, they include: Cancer, Diabetes, Emotional/Psychological Disorders, vision problems and seizures. This brain damage can be manifested as mental retardation or even brain tumors. It can cause Central Nervous System (CNS) disturbances, menstrual difficulties, and even worst seizures. Aspartame disrupts fetal development by aborting it or inducing defects. The FDA argues that the placenta keeps MSG from handing the developing fetus. This claim is actually false. A test was done on lab rats and the effect of MSG on them. Children are the same way; as they age, their levels of hormones change and they tend to show signs of MSG abuse. One very common side effect of MSG in children is ADD (almost shown immediately).

Dr. Olney, a professional neuroscientist and a lead researcher had informed the FDA of the very real dangers MSG brought to baby food but they refused to listen. Only after he testified before a Congressional committee did the food manufacturers agree to remove MSG from baby foods, but as we see that did not really happen. Foods with this additive include dried fruits, jams, processed seafood, jellies, fruit juices, frozen vegetables and soup mixes. It is a requirement for this additive to be mentioned on food labels as asthmatic women tend to in particular be sensitive to this additive. Pregnant women should try to focus on buying fruits and vegetables that are marked organic or pesticide free. If that choice is not available, it is very important to make sure that you peel all fruits and vegetables before eating them as most of the build up of chemicals will be on the skin. Making sure that you get your dose of good veggies and fruits is really important to your health. It's a great and healthy choice by far and one of the best. If you organically grow vegetables then it's better!

      Yeah msg is the worst. We should stop eating natrually occurring tomatoes and seaweed as those also contain MSG. Gutamic acid is natrually occurring and as many scientific studies show, is not harmful. Jesus, the flock mentality, racism, and stupidity here is hilarious.

      No MSG is not in cereal it has more salty flavor to it, around 70-75% like salt, but on the other hand cereal has a lot of HFCS
