Thinking aobut InterStim aka; Sacral Nerve stimulation?

Updated on August 16, 2012

I have dealt with overactive bladder my whole life and I mean my "whole life!"

I was born with bladder issues and wet the bed until I was 12 years old. Even though I had overactive bladder I did not have to deal with incontinence until I had children.

I tried every medication you could take for about 18 months. It was when I reached the age of 39, and I knew I was done having kids that I decided, "enough is enough, I am getting help!"

I had a urologist I had been working with for 18 months so I went to him and said "now it's time to take care of this." We had exhausted all the medications we could and he sent me home with a lot of information about InterStim aka; Sacral Nerve Stimulation.

I took a few weeks to make my decision. My decision was to try stage 1 and pray that it helped me. I did my research. I went onto Medtronics website (the makers of the implant) and of course they were all positive. I went into every forum I could find online. I saw positive stories and horror stories. I met people online, I even chatted on the phone with them.

In November 2010 I had stage 1 and on December 7, 2010, I had stage 2.

I am posting this here because I want others to find me and have someone to ask questions and have support.

I will post other Hubs too about the 2 stages and what to expect.

My biggest advice when choosing, or not choosing InterStim is to research the heck out of it and don't be afraid to ask questions. Join every support group you can find and be active in them.

Have a great day!

So far for me it is still working great and I have no complications with it. I am a happy customer. Still works for the incontinence etc.
