Tips On How To Stay Healthy At 50

Time has come so fast. Where does it go? Was it not just yesterday when I went to a German school to learn German language? Well, it was! Thinking backward how I was then and how I am now, seems world apart to me. So thin, fragile, naive, shy and knew nothing about the world. And now? I am now the opposite of what I was. I complain when there is something wrong in the family and with friends. I am just frank to others about what I think and in this, I have to be careful when I'm in my home country Philippines. In Germany, I don't have to be careful. I learned being frank and sometimes being rude just to survive.
Well, I am getting so far from my topic. Right, let's talk about how to keep ourselves healthy at 50 or something. These tips are base from my own experiences and my own opinion.

Here they are:
1. Keep away from negative person.
He/she will just ruin your good mood and you will feel sick right after he /she has left you. Negative person always find something bad about your conversation. May it be about things, people around you and your surroundings. You can tell him/her about any happy events such as recovering from a sickness, he/she will still say something that will pull you down. If you can not avoid this kind of a person, think of something that will make you smile and don't listen at all. If it is not so hard for you, tell him/her to go away and tell frankly how you feel about his/her negativeness.
2. Take a good nights sleep.
It depends on how many hours you need for a good night sleep. It can be 8,7 or 6. It is up to your need.
3. Eat healthy foods.
Eating healthy foods is one way of keeping you healthy at 50 or more. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables everyday. Fruits like bananas, strawberries, avocado, jackfruit, pineapples, mangoes, apples and many others. A bowl of fresh fruits a day is good for you. Vegetables like spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, peppers,etc...For me, eating fish everyday is good but meat should not be often as twice a week.
4. Drink a glass of red wine a day.
Drinking a glass of red wine a day is good for your heart. I love to drink a glass of red wine before going to bed as it gives me a good nights sleep. A pint of Guinness well do as well.
5. Have an exercise.
There are many different exercises we can choose to do like: jogging, walking, cycling, aerobic, yoga ...
6. Go dancing.
Have a dancing course like Zumba or just dance at home with the music you love. It does not matter if you dance alone as long as you enjoyed dancing.
7. Have a good laugh
Take a laughter course. The more laughing friends you have, the better. If there's no laughter course near you, organize one with your family or friends.
8. Smile
Don't walk frowning with a sour face as if you carry the whole world on your shoulder. SMILE instead. It will lighten your problem, if there is any. Besides that, a smile will make your face younger.
9. Bonding with your friends
Bonding with your friends is the best idea at all. You can do a lot with them. Eating healthy foods, exercising, smiling, dancing, laughing, playing games like charade, etc...
10. Brain Training
Play scrabble, crossword puzzles, sudoku, chess and other games which engage your mind. It will exercise your brain and thus keeping it fit.
11. Reading
Read books and magazines that interest you. Read books /novels about young generation to keep you aware of what's going on about them. With this knowledge you will know how to interact with the younger generation.
12. Write a journal or a diary
In case you forgot something what you did yesterday, a journal or a diary can "tell" you.
13. Make a list of things you ever wanted and make it happen.
Be aware that your life is running fast now, so do whatever you wanted to do. Be it parachuting, mountain climbing or just treating yourself to a spa.
14. Don't listen to a person who will discourage you.
Don't listen to a person who will say: " you can't do this and do that" because you are old. You might be 50 or something but you are still kicking alive. As long as you are in good health and in good condition, you can do what your heart long for. Yes, you have aged and has wrinkles on your face and everywhere but you are still young at heart. No matter what your family members and other people say about your age, it does not matter. It is only a number. The important thing is, is how good you feel.

This article is dedicated to all my high school classmates Batch 1977. Without you, I will not be having this idea of writing about being at the age of 50 and something. Thank you my friends.
Having fun

So many great suggestions to keep in mind for staying healthy :) Thanks for sharing your secret :)
very nice advice, Thelma. It's also true for people in the 60ies, I can already tell you. By the way, you have not changed much. Maybe your secondary characteristics like shyness have completely changed but your primary characteristics are still the same: you are very friendly, open, curious and prepared to learn from new experiences. I like to read more of your articles in future
I enjoy dancing and daily activity definitely would keep one fit in this age group, laughter is a great way to keep fit. Thanks for sharing this informative hub.
Thelma,
This is a very useful hub for any older person to read. I agree with everything you say. Based on my experiences, it's important for an older person to stay positive and be around younger people. You can't really retire and do absolutely nothing. It's important to have a hobby or a part-time job you like and to feel that you are productive all of your life. Voted up and sharing with followers.
Very useful tips. We are only as old as our thoughts. So why not enjoy and be young in mind and as young as one can be in body.
Good to see you have a great time in these pictures.
Voted up and shared.
now you make me smile with this wonderful hub...looking forward to being fifty and still have that huge smile to be painted on my lips...
All excellent suggestions. You have a very happy looking family for sure. I wish you the best of health in the years to come.
What an enlightening hub ! Being with high school friends are the time you can feel at total ease and young again.
I'll really like to read more about your life in Germany, how different is the German culture from Philipines'.

Thelma, I'd be hard-pressed to do a more thorough and accurate list than the one you've compiled here for how to stay healthy at 50+.
I try to avoid people in my day-to-day life who consistently suck energy from me with their negative thoughts. For me, it is an important aspect of maintaining good mental and emotional health.
Thank you for SHARING.
I will have to try some of these. I have never heard of jack-fruit but I do like the red wine and/or Guinness before bed :)
Thelma, Life itself is such a wonderful teacher and it sounds like you've been an excellent student. Can't imagine it has been easy living in two such different cultures. But I'm sure it has been enriching. Thanks for SHARING. Sandra Busby
