Updated on March 22, 2011

Aids to help Stop Snoring

There are many causes of snoring. To help to minimize the snoring that can cause various problems to you and your partner, some devices have been made. Using them will reduce and even stop you from snoring.

There is no dearth of the availability of a multitude of devices that help to reduce snoring incidences. These are used by those who snore chronically. Using these will help the affected person as well as the partner of the snorer to have a good sleep. The best device that will help the partner of the person snoring is the ear plug that prevents the noise from being heard by the partner of the snorer. This is a simple device and the ones that are commonly used by many people all over the world. It is also very cost effective. The best ones are made from rubber and silicon. These can also be purchased very easily from any shop. Though the common ones may not function very effectively, there are some ear plugs that will decrease the sound of the snore to a great extent. The best ones are those that allow selective hearing by reducing the sound of the snore, but allow the person to be able to listen to various other sounds that may occur.

There are very few prescription products, but many other products abound. Nasal sprays are also very effective in reducing snoring. These are made from saline and so they relieve you of any nasal congestion, increasing the entry of air through the nasal passage. Other than nasal sprays, nasal strips also help to increase the air passage through the nose.

Though these are the artificial aids that can be used to reduce and prevent snoring, there are some methods that will reduce the snoring naturally. One of the best oils that are part of herbal therapy that will help to reduce snoring is peppermint oil extract. The oil can be used by applying it on the nose and this will help to reduce snoring. The peppermint oil increases the lumen of the airways and help in increased free flow of air through the passages. Other oils that have similar effect are coconut oil and oil from the eucalyptus tree. If olive oil is taken in small quantities orally, it too has an effect in reducing snoring.

Other than these oils, one of the simplest methods of reducing the snoring is to use steam inhalation. Steam inhalation has the same effect as that of nasal decongestion preventing medications. Boiling water can be used to inhale and the effect of the steam inhalation can be increased by adding other ingredients like sage leaf or vinegar from apple cider. Another method that can be used to decrease the snoring by using a simple remedy is a neti pot. It is a pot made of different materials and this will help to remove all the congestion in the nose by removing all contents of the nose that block the air from passing through the nose. So if all other methods have failed, then the neti pot may help you better.
