I am always getting asked questions about this product, “does it really work,” “how do I take it,” “what is it made of?” Since this product is so highly sought after and has such high consumer interest I thought it would be beneficial to write my own personal experience about it.

What Exactly is the Slim and Sassy doTERRA Essential Oil?

This product is a Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (CPTG) blend of grapefruit, lemon, peppermint, ginger, and cinnamon. These ingredients are all pure and natural and come from seeds, barks, stems, roots and flowers. These ingredients are free from all fillers, artificial ingredients, pesticides, and chemical residues. They are beautifully and powerfully fragrant.

In complete transparency, doTERRA's CPTG trademark has come under fire on a variety of online blogs and websites. Though some remarks may be completely pure and unbiased, I have seen a number of remarks made from companies, or people, who have a vested financial interest and monetary benefit in smearing the name of an inherent industry competitor. In an essential oil industry where there is little regulation, doTERRA's CPTG trademark is just that: a trademark. While some publicly decry the marketing intentions of using CPTG on bottles, others say that it is actually a GOOD thing that doTERRA thinks highly enough of its customers to devise internal standards to ensure the quality and potency of its own product.

Personally, I do believe that doTERRA has gained financially by tradmarking the acronym/phrase CPTG, however, I also personally prefer the fact that they devised their own internal standards in an industry where standards and regulations are lacking. To me, this is a good thing, and, I would think, should be seen in a positive light. Additionally, considering all the otherwise questionable decisions of the government, I don't think it is wise necessarily to go look to the government as a single authoritative source in determining whether oils are "good" or "bad". Blindly following their recommendations, especially when governmental regulatory committees, like the FDA and EPA, have approved very questionable substances for our consumption, just don't seem like a good idea.

For example, the FDA has approved substances like aspartame, high fructose corn syrup, and fluoride, among a wealth of other substances that studies have shown are poisonous and unfit for consumption. Knowing that most every company has internal standards regarding quality and potency of their essential oils, I personally appreciate doTERRA's transparency in letting these internal standards be known. It says a lot about that company that they are openly willing to share this with customers. To me, openly doing this instills a great deal of trust into their company and brand.

With that said, here is my personal review of doTERRA's Slim and Sassy Metabolic Blend essential oil.

How Do these Different Ingredients Actually Work?

-Grapefruit: Grapefruit contains a high limonene content which helps to purify and cleanse the body. Limonene is often found in citrus fruits and has been found to be cancer fighting and promotes a healthy liver.

-Lemon: Lemon also contains a high limonene content and therefore helps to purify and cleanse your body. Lemon oil has also been shown to lift your mood and help you think positively.

-Peppermint: Peppermint provides a stimulating and positive effect on the endocrine system to assist with weight loss. This includes helping to manage your appetite and too restrain eating in-between meals. Peppermint is very soothing and calming to the stomach.

-Ginger: Ginger also plays a role with the endocrine system and helps you to have a feeling of being “full.” Ginger is also very soothing and calming to the stomach and helps to reduce cravings.

-Cinnamon: This is my most favorite ingredients as cinnamon has multiple health benefits. Cinnamon has proven to increase energy levels and actually helps your body to store less fatty acid. It also helps to keep you feeling “full” longer.

Why Did I Decide to Use doTERRA Slim and Sassy Essential Oil?

I am still trying to lose those last 20 pounds of stubborn baby weight (yes, my son is now 19 months old at the time of this writing review, ahhh). The thing that I struggle the most with is cravings and over-eating. I am extremely cautious about what I put into my body and for months I didn’t want to take anything to assist me with losing weight.

However, after doing a tremendous amount of research on this product I truly believe that these 5 ingredients are natural, effective, and really work. Before I even tried this product I read several excellent reviews and was blown away by the results people had.

How did this product work for me?

I am a full-time Mommy to my son, but in order to keep up my registered nurse license, I work 1-2 night shifts a week. My biggest struggle is when the clock hits 3 o’clock in the morning at work and I am tired, and my body starts craving JUNK. I can’t tell you how many times I have hit up the vending machine at work. However a few months back I started bringing my doTERRA Slim and Sassy Essential Oil to work and, throughout the night, I would drink a 20oz glass of water containing 2-3 drops of this oil blend.

I would also eat the healthy snacks that I had packed. I can’t stress enough that the essential oils REALLY did help my cravings. I have been able to resist the vending machine and cakes that people frequently bring in. The blends of oils are very satisfying to me and they seem to have almost a calming effect on my cravings. If the idea of heading to the vending machine to buy a bag of chips crosses my mind I just don’t feel that excited by it anymore.

Another situation where this oil blend has really helped me is with controlling the amount of food I eat. I absolutely LOVE picnic foods. Grilling hamburgers, chicken, and eating potato/pasta salad is my favorite. It’s all good in moderation, but let’s face it, moderation is HARD. Again, I drink a 20oz glass of water with 2-3 drops of my Slim and Sassy blend before and while I am eating and it has helped me to feel “full” earlier than I normally would.

What are the different ways to use this product?

This blend of oils is powerful and strong, and I can’t stress enough that a LITTLE goes a long way. I have been able to get myself to the point where I only need to use this oil when I know I am going to be in a VERY tempting situation. Family gatherings, when I am really tired going into work, and going to my favorite restaurants are all situations when I know that I will need this little gem of oils to help me. My favorite way to use this product is drinking it with a glass of water, but here are all the recommended ways you can take it:

Diffusion: Use three to four drops in your essential oil diffuser and you will reap the benefits by aromatically breathing it in.

Internal use: Dilute one drop in 4 fl. oz. of liquid. You can put it in juice, water, tea.

Topical use: Apply one to two drops to desired area. Dilute with dōTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil to minimize any skin sensitivity. See additional precautions below.*If you are taking this oil with pure water, I would recommend starting with only one small drop as it does have a strong flavor. I personally like the taste, but I have heard some reviews of people thinking it can taste a little strong.

Are there any safety considerations?: Keep out of reach of children. If you are pregnant, nursing, or under a doctor’s care, consult your physician. Avoid contact with eyes, inner ears, and sensitive areas. Avoid sunlight or UV rays for up to 12 hours after applying product.

How do I order this product? If you are interested in ordering this product you can do so here at At the top of the page you click on “shop for products,” and this product is located under “oil blends.” I have had friends who have spent hundreds of dollars on weight loss products and sadly they have not made much progress with them. I feel that this product is very cost effective as a little goes a LONG way. I am now into my fourth month of using my current bottle. My favorite part is that I don’t have to worry about this product because it is completely pure and natural and free of any toxic ingredients which are found in almost all weight loss products today. You write a lot about cravings and eating heavy foods, but what about those of us who eat very healthy, and small amount, but can't seem to lose the last of the post baby pudge no matter how much we watch what we eat and exercise? I wanted a product that would be helpful for me to drop the last bit of weight, but I don't need help with cravings as I don't have those. Thanks.

I still have a pretty full bottle of this from a few months back. I went to a Green Smoothie Girl presentation at a local Panera Bread and learned more about aromatherapy. I ordered Slim and Sassy, Deep Blue for Muscle Relief and Breathe, for my boyfriend's allergies. Deep Blue is amazing but Slim and Sassy just left me sassy, without the slim part. Working out is the only way I stay slim....but thanks for a good article.
