In the past century or so, the physical activity that the average person participates in during the regular course of their day has diminished to the point that we really can't count it anymore. This is why we must find the motivation to lose weight and exercise on our own.

The statistics for the rates of obesity in the United States are staggering. The rates have seen dramatic increases across the board, from children, to adults of all ages. Our children do not play the way their parents and grandparents did.

They have little motivation to exercise. Today's kids are brought up in front of a TV, or a game console, and have little to do with outdoor activities. They can't be expected to walk, or ride their bike, no they have to ride in the car everywhere.

Schools are cutting back, and one area is in physical education classes, and sports programs. These kids need to be getting motivated to exercise, otherwise they will be overweight, and unfit at a very early age.

For your kids sake is one of the ways to get motivated to exercise. Do it for you, but be an example to the children around you. Set a good example for them.

How to maintain your motivation to lose weight and exercise.

  1. Develop specific goals which you want to achieve. Do not set your goals with statements like "I want to lose weight". Spell your goals out in detail, "I will lose 50 pounds by New Years".

    I want to fit in a size 4 dress, or I want to fit in my old pants are a little more specific, you still should have that exact figure in mind. If you have a long way to reach your goals, try doing it in steps.

    Reaching smaller steps along the way will help you find motivation to work out, and keep with your program.

  2. Develop a good strategy to keep your motivation to lose weight and exercise. A combination of diet and exercise must be used for effective weight lose, and to keep the weight off in the future.

    If you were to just use a diet, you might be able to lose the weight, but you still wouldn't be in shape. We are trying to be at an ideal weight, while also obtaining a much higher level of physical fitness.

  3. Once you find your ways to get motivated to exercise, you must learn to balance your life around your new found motivation to lose weight and exercise.

    You must not let your diet and exercise program deny you of other pleasures of life. You can probably still do most of the things you liked to do before, you might just have to do them in moderation.

  4. Keeping track of your progress is another one of the ways to get motivated to exercise, and diet. As you see the small changes start to build into much bigger changes in your weight, and physical appearance you will be motivated to keep on going.

    This is were having a workout buddy is very helpful, you can celebrate as you each reach your goals, and motivate each other when things are not going so good.
