Fruits Are Good For Most Any Diet

I am on a diet right now, and I have been investigating the amount of calories in different foods. Even when I am not restricting my calories, it is healthy to have lots of fruits and vegetables every day.

I have provided a few polls near the bottom, if you would like to vote on your favorite fruits. Below that are some additional articles by fellow writers that you may enjoy.

      Dream On,

You're on a roll today! Thanks for visiting another of my pages. I enjoy your visits.

I love fruit, too. I came up with the idea for this when I was on a diet, and wanted to see how many calories different fruits had. One thing I love about this site is having the ability to put together an article of anything I want, including topics that come in handy for me :) Of course, it is for everyone else, as well. Otherwise I would not have had such a huge selection of fruits.

      Thanks very much!

I'm glad you like it, and I hope that your diet goes well. They usually are very hard, at least at the beginning. I hope you find a plan that is pretty easy to stick to, and don't get too discouraged if you don't lose weight fast. Take baby steps, and you're likely to lose weight.

Thanks, you enjoy your day, as well!

Mmm. . . What a healthy and useful hub. I love fruits and eat whatever's in season. Now, it's time to pick blackberries, raspberries, currant and blueberries. I also enjoy dried fruit, but always buy organic, naturally dried fruit. Or dry them myself. If the dried fruit looks shiny and feels greasy, you'll know that unhealthy additives and oils have been added, so stay away from them. The drier and dustier they look, the healthier they are.

Thank you for an awesome hub!

I like how you're honest about "loving the bad stuff better"! Several years ago I ate terribly, and it took quite a lot of effort for me to turn over and start eating healthier. But also, the "bad stuff" is okay in small doses :) Which makes me happy, because I like to indulge here and there.

      Aunt Jimi,

I agree with you on the corn syrup! I think it is a terrible additive, and I think it is awful that those commercials are trying to make it sound like it is perfectly fine to consume. And it is a good point about farmers using corn to fatten up their livestock. I have never thought of that!

I enjoyed seeing the video on the homemade fruit rolls. I used to love those snacks, and I think it seems reasonably easy to make from scratch, and certainly healthier. At least when you make it, you know what's in it!

Yes, seeing the amount of calories are good for everyone, even those who are not on a "diet". It's good to be aware, and be careful what we eat. Maintaining weight doesn't have to be a chore, and it can be done by developing good habits.

Thanks for visiting my page, and for commenting. Have a great week!

Hi, somehow I missed this one.

The older I get, the more I like fruit, though I always did like fruit.

I have a pear tree in the back yard. They are delicious. I share them with my dog, Jenny, and whatever else likes to sneak a bite out of them. The person who sold me this house comes by to get pears. But this year it isn't doing much in the way of fruiting pears. That was the first time he saw this tree so pearless. Makes me want a pear more now that I can't share them!

      Enjoyed this hub.

Very helpful list of fruits and their calories for everyone, not just dieters. After all, if we watch what we eat and get our exercise we may not have to be a dieter! Love the video about making strawberry fruit rollups too. Easy and so much better without all those additives in the store bought kind. I'm one of those people who thinks corn syrup in everything is one of the main things that's making America fat. After all, farmers feed corn to their livestock to get them fat for market.

Yes, my diet is going very well! It has gone increasingly better, and I am only a few pounds away from my target weight. Once that happens, I will maintain my weight, and work harder to toning my muscles. It is fun in some ways! It is also easier to do this time of the year than in the Winter.

What a great reference or fruit calories! I am a fruit lover, so it's hard for me to pick a favorite. But at this time Sunday morning, I'd have to say "cherries, raspberries and mangoes" are my choices. I'm glad you also mentioned avocadoes since they truly are a fruit. At least they're under 100 calories. And I think it varies. I just looked at my bag of frozen blueberries, and it says 70 calories for one cup. So maybe it depends on the size or variety.

      Kathryn,

Oh, I'm sure there is some differences between different sizes and varieties, but I'm going to assume that this gives a very good idea, for the most part, about the fruit in general. An apple is an apple and though some may have a few more calories than others, I'm sure size is a bigger factor, which seems obvious to most people. Besides, I'll never choose a 'small' fruit for caloric concerns! I think the good, far outweighs the bad.

Now I'll be looking forward to your hub on fresh vegetables... lol. Well, if you ever run out of inspiration; which something tells me you won't, lol, there's always that to fall back on :D

Yes, we did lose a lot of heat over the last week or so. We went from days in the 90's to days in the high 60's and nights in the 40's. I actually wished I'd had the heat on in my house a night or two... lol. Now, we're back up to a comfortable warm, which I very much appreciate.

I hope you have a wonderful Sunday... you need to go on one of your famous picnics!

      Cat,

I am glad you found this hub, even though you didn't get the notification for it! That happens to me sometime, too.

I'm so glad you found this helpful! The only thing I didn't do was go into detail about the different types of each fruit- for example, apples. But the calories I posted were what an "average" apple is.

This is something I look up all of the time, too, so once I compiled the information, I decided to make it into an article. If I find it useful, I figure others will, as well!

I adore incorporating others into my hubs. I think it adds useful material for others to see (if they desire), and it gives it a little more interest. It's also a handy way for me to have easy access to some of the ones I really like :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my page and comment, and for the votes and shares. Have a wonderful weekend! I hope it is as nice there as it is here. It is sunny and pretty, in the 70s. I think it is supposed to be in the 80s, but I would take that any day over the 90s!

Okay, 2 things; I've been going to come over for days, but I can't seem to get time on the computer like I'd like and then when I do, I'm usually weeding through notifications. Which leads me to my next point; HP didn't notify me of this hub! I even just went and checked my inbox to see if I missed it and it's not there. Okay... lol, on to the awesome article!

I love this! I do look at calories quite a bit and I'm conscious of them and I'm trying to teach my kids to have a basic awareness and understanding of them. However, I hate that fruits and vegetables don't come with nutritional information. Now, you've got my fruits covered! Thank you!!! I was a little surprised to learn about some of them, but none are alarming, so I will continue eating my fruit! :D

Also, I have to say; I just love how you incorporate so many other people into your hubs. That's so generous of you!

But all fruits are my favorite! No, that's not quite true - cherries and strawberries are definitely high up on the list. In all honesty, I would probably eat pretty much only fruit and vegetables if I could afford it. Apart from my free mangos right now (which I'm probably moving away from within two weeks), I really just can't afford as much fresh fruit as I'd like!

      PS,

Good morning! I love weekends, so mine really is great so far. I had breakfast and my first cup of coffee, watched some news, and now am taking my rounds through the internet. Very relaxing.

Fruit is definitely good to eat every day. Even the higher calorie ones are at least not "empty calories", like some of the junk food or desserts out there. I like to consult a list like this every once in a while, to see how many calories I consume. But at the same time, most fruits are worth every calorie.

You're welcome, and thanks for bookmarking this as a reference. I think it is a pretty useful page to have, and I appreciate that you think so :)

      Colin,

We sure have been getting the heat! Boston itself isn't doing as bad now, due to the sea breeze, but when I was in Newton for work (about a half hour away), it was 97 degrees, and with a "feels like" temperature of 101. It was very humid! I brought a tank top with me to change into after work, and brought a Gatorade to remain hydrated during my 15 minute walk to the train station.

I came home today, and took a nap before brewing some fresh coffee and watching the news. The air conditioner in here feels good.

Thanks, Colin, I'm glad you like my hub. Even I like to buy the packaged fruit that has been cut already once in a while. They're very convenient, and often come with a variety of fruits, which is sometimes what I am in the mood for. We just bought a whole bunch of frozen fruit this time around. We'll use them in icy cold fruit smoothies, as well as (thawed) in fruit parfaits.

I was thinking of you a few minutes ago. I watch Home and Garden Television (HGTV), which has over half of its shows in Canada.

Your kitties must be hot! I'm sure they will become more active once the sun isn't out!

Thank you very much, and I'm sending some hugs over to you and Tiffy and Gabriel. Stay cool, and have a good day at work!

Hello and good afternoon Kathryn of Kool and that is what I am trying to do right now - stay kool - I was in the water on Tuesday 6 times, 4 times yesterday because I had an early work start and no doubt 6 or 7 times today because my start for work is later.

You really put so much time and effort into each one of your hubs and I am so proud of you for being that way - I suppose you're getting the heat as well. Stay kool my friend and be happy and healthy as well and that is the world which came to mind here - healthy.

Thanks for the good luck wishes. It's going well, slowly but surely. I am exercising more, too, so that is a great thing! Walking is the only thing that I haven't done as much of as planned, because our days have been in the 90s (Fahrenheit) for many days. With the humidity, it feels almost like 100! Joe,

You know it! As usual, it was pretty fun to put it together, and to find elements to include in it. I was happy that I have taken so many photos of fruit, because I am a visual person- I like seeing pictures of fruit as I am browsing over the calorie stats.

Thanks, Joe, I appreciate the cheers very much! It's very encouraging. I am very happy that I have made your acquaintance, too. I have met so many wonderful people here, and you are one of the few that shine the brightest!

Have a good night, and I look forward to reading many more H.O.T., walking, and E-Bay topics.

      Truthfornow,

It is too bad that bananas make your stomach hurt. It is good that you are trying to eat more watermelon and cherries, though. At least their are plenty of fruits to try, so if you don't like them all, it's fine!

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment, and have a wonderful night.

      Chitrangada,

Thanks, I'm glad you find it informative.

When I have low calorie days for my diet, fruits are an easy way to maintain it. I love fruit, anyway, and it is a treat. We just ordered groceries, and they are supposed to arrive soon. I ordered quite a bit of fruit, so I look forward to it.

Watermelon are spectacular for Summer! Many times when I go on a cookout, I have some. As far as cucumber, I often pack some in my lunch bag for when I go to work, and sometimes I will snack on some while I am waiting for the train to arrive. It has been in the 90s (Fahrenheit) lately, so it is good to stay hydrated every way possible!

I would have trouble voting, too. And sometimes I am in the mood for different fruits.

I know I will make use of this, so I'm sure others will, too.

Thanks for the votes, and for taking the time to check this out, and comment, and have a good day.

I love fruits, nearly all of them. My favorite fruits are apples. We eat them everyday. "An apple a day keeps the doctor away". But now in summer we eat a lot of watermelons, cherries and cucumbers as they are so refreshing. It was interesting to read how many calories each fruit has. I'm not aware of that. Thank you for this useful, informative and well-written hub. Wish you good luck on your diet.

      Hi, Kathryn!

Behind the scenes, I know you worked hard doing the research and tweaking the overall format of this hub. As a reader, I am delighted to report that this was a most enjoyable excursion through a literary mosaic of delicious and nutritious fruits.

Even if from afar, I want you to know that I am cheering you on in your healthy lifestyle choices (diet, walking, social connections, etc.) AND your writing.

You've been a wonderful asset to our HubPages community from Day One, and I personally have been blessed as a result of having made your acquaintance. Thank you so much, Kathryn, for yet another gem of an article! Aloha, my friend!

I am not much of a fruit person. I am trying to do better. I like bananas but they make my stomach hurt. So, now I am trying to eat cherries and watermelon which are okay to me. Fruit is good to eat because most of them don't have all that many calories ~ good for a snack and dessert. Nice hub!

Great hub and so well done, with lots of information. I like being on an all fruit diet occasionally. And I love seasonal fruits. They help to keep you in good shape, according to the season. That is why water melon and cucumber are good for summers because of their high water content and so on.

It is very difficult to vote on your above list, as I love almost all of them.

Well done hub to provide a ready reference to everyone while consuming them.

Useful, unique and informative hub! Thanks for sharing! Voted up!

You're welcome. Some of your posts are perfect to go with this one!

When I started this hub, it was after I kept going online to see how many calories were in different fruits. It will be a very handy reference, I think!

We're ordering groceries tonight, and I hope to buy a decent selection of fruits. There's nothing like having fruit every day!

I always take photos of my food, nowadays (just in case I need them for my hubs!), so they came in handy for this!

You're welcome, and have a spectacular day!

Thanks for sharing this useful hub and for backlinking this to my own hubs. I appreciate that. Voted up, useful, shared and pinned.

Yes, there were a lot of fruit choices in the polls! But at least I made three, and not one huge master poll! I know there are other fruits out there, too, but for now this is a pretty good list.

      I love fruit, too!

      Suzie,

It's funny, this article was born when I was looking for the calories to different fruits, and decided it would make for a good reference hub! I always take photos of my food, so I already had plenty of fruit photos. Speaking of which, the main photo is of the cherries and strawberries I cut up in preparation for one of your face masks! I nibbled some as I got it ready.

I love fruit, and would have a hard time voting, as well. It also depends on what mood I am in.

Thanks for the votes and shares... I am very tempted to open a Pinterest account. Everybody talks about it, and it seems like a great way to display articles, as well as accumulate ones from others.

Thanks, and I hope you have a wonderful day! It is hot and humid outside (90s), so I am in my cool apartment now. I think sometime this Summer I will take advantage of the beach, at least to dip my feet in it. It would be so refreshing.

      Karen,

That is very funny! It is the same with me. I remember years ago, when I was on a "real" 3-day fast (no food at all. only water), that was when I went to the library and checked out around 1 dozen cookbooks, and wrote recipes down. Food was very much on my mind!

      Mmm, peaches are delicious!

At the time you wrote this, you hadn't weighed in yet. But it's nice to know that since then you have, and you lost two pounds. I love it when "fears" don't come true, and we are surprised by pleasant news (such as weight loss). It makes everything seem so much more worth it!

Thanks for taking the time to check out my page, and comment! Have a fantastic day.

It is hot here! In Newton (where I work) it was 96 degrees, and the heat index was 99 degrees. It felt every bit of that temp! I was so happy that I brought a tank top to change into, so I wouldn't be so uncomfortable during the 15 minute walk to the train station. My work shirt is black, per the dress code :(

Anyway, I am extremely thankful for the air conditioners, and also a bit tempted to go swimming in the water.

      Ruby,

Thanks. I love fruit, too. I am happiest when we stock up on fruit, so I can snack on it a lot, and not even feel guilty about it!

When I saw the strawberry roll-up video, I definitely wanted to add it to my article! I want to try it sometime, since it seems so easy. I'm sure it is healthier than the store bought ind, too, since they would have no preservatives or "extra" stuff in them.

You're welcome, and thanks for gracing my page with your presence!

      Have a great day.

Well done on another classic, I voted Cantaloupe melon, Honeydew and Strawberries in your poll but was not easy as so many are ones I love!! Great article! This is an excellent reference guide for fruits and their calorie count. I enjoy most fruits and vegetables, provided that they are in season of course. There is nothing worse than certain fruits that are not in season. Fruits are wonderful especially when you are watching your weight because they are low in calories and quite filling. I love the fact that you included links to various recipes as well. I am definitely going to bookmark this. Thanks for sharing. (Voted Up) -Rose
