How to Shrink Stomach Size and Be Less Hungry (4 New Guidelines)
You can decrease appetite and lose weight by shrinking the size of your stomach . How? By eating the right types of food and being in control of when you eat. This somewhat controversial article explains how you can stop feeling hungry all the time with the following 4 new guidelines:
- Don't Eat Until You've "Been" - Empty your Bowels Before you Eat
- One, at Most Two Meals a Day
- No Drinking While Eating
- Reduce or Omit Meat and Dairy Consumption
Before you start it is imperative to fully understand how the digestive system works as explained in the following short video.
Now you know exactly what happens inside your body when you swallow a bite of food. So what is the substance that makes a potbelly? OK so there is a considerable layer of fat on top; you can pinch and feel that. But underneath that layer of fat, right beneath dormant muscle tissue, there is more bulge inside the digestive system. What is that stuff? Well, as we've just learned from the above video, the large intestine processes waste, undigested food, that turns into feces. Can you draw your own conclusion?
So What is the Secret?
Losing weight by shrinking stomach size is about how to reduce bloating and stretching by giving the entire digestive system a well deserved daily cleansing and a good rest.
Does it Work?
You may think that it is impossible to stick to those 4 new guidelines but once you have watched the video on the digestive system and read this article to the end you will be tempted to try reducing the size of your stomach all by yourself. It has worked for many of my clients, so why shouldn't it work for you? No harm in trying. But first, why do you think you always feel hungry?
Why Do You Always Feel Hungry?
An overfed, stagnant body that never moves much is going to become very unsatisfied. Not aware enough to identify the real cause of its discomfort, the "food-addicted" body is not sure why it is always feeling hungry. It attempts to appease the vague sense of ‘want’, of feeling ‘empty’, by sneaking to the refrigerator, the chocolate box or the drinks cabinet for unnecessary, even harmful nourishment. This cycle not only makes you fat, it also creates guilt, harms your self-esteem, can give you indigestion, piles, candida, colitis, or stomach ulcers, diabetes, can make you obese, anorexic or even bulimic. You may think you are unable to change, but change is waiting just around the corner once you understand that your constant hunger may be caused by malnutrition.
"Mal" means bad, nutrition is food intake. Malnutrition is normally associated with poor starving children in Africa. Less known is the fact that those who feed on unhealthy processed foods also suffer from malnutrition. If one eats food that has lost most of its vital nutrients through processing, then the body craves for real healthy food it craves for proper nourishment. So even when your stomach is full to the brim, with pasta, pizza, cheese and other animal products to stretching point from oversize portions, you may suffer from malnutrition. For that reason you will always feel hungry because you are lacking healthy, nutritious food. So what is a balanced diet to lose belly fat?
Balanced Diet to Lose Belly Fat
As shown on the above illustration a balanced diet to lose belly fat is made up of meals that consists of at least 50% of juicy fruit and vegetables (preferably raw). We explain this later under the new guideline number three, "No Drinking While Eating". First let us look into the each of the 4 new guidelines in more detail.
1. Don't Eat Until You've "Been" - Empty your Bowels Before you Eat
The first guideline is possibly the most unconventional one and goes against common beliefs. But think about it: once the stomach has tasted a bite of food it will want more until it has had its fill. A large, stretched out stomach will want more food than a normal size stomach. Now consider that the body is a container for passing food, energy, thought and feeling. If you fill it up before it is emptied out, you will create blockages (bloating) and traffic jams inside which will soon cause you discomfort. What to do?
The stomach has had a whole night to digest the food you ate yesterday. A healthy body is ready to eliminate in the morning shortly after waking up. Would you stuff dirty washing into a washing machine before taking out the previous wash? Similarly, the digestive system must be clean and empty before eating the first meal of the day. Without this first rule: that you need to go to the toilet for a number two before eating anything at all, you will not succeed in shrinking the size of your stomach. If you have not been to the toilet today then don’t eat breakfast, or even lunch, until you'be been. It is imperative that you make room in the digestive system for the food you are going to enjoy. The only way to do that is to visit the throne before stuffing more food down your throat. In any event, for as long as it takes, do not eat anything until you've been.
Most of my clients presented with the "don't eat before you've been" guideline say to me:
"Oh, but I can't go to the toilet before I eat. Eating helps me eliminate". What happens in that situation is that the new intake of food is actually pressing down the remaining (stagnant) content of the large intestine. A better way to avoid bloating and stretching the stomach is to make room in the entire digestive system before eating the first meal of the day. Because it is natural to eat until the stomach feels full, you only feel "hungry" for more once you start eating. If you don't start eating, you won't want more because the stomach is still asleep (resting) and the entire digestive system is still busy completing the cycle from food consumption to elimination.
If you cannot go or have difficulty having a regular early morning stool, then Just remember: The longer you leave it, the harder it gets and that can lead to hemorrhoids, irritable bowel syndrome, colonitis and many other digestive track problems. Here is a tip: Squat on top of the toilet bowl to do your business and you'll be amazed at how much easier the elimination process becomes in this more natural position. There is a link at the bottom of this article to a detailed article that explains why squatting is the only correct position for elimination and the many benefits of the squatting position for elimination.
2. One, at Most Two Meals a Day
An adult can live happily on one good meal a day. This meal is best taken in the late afternoon, after the day’s work has been done or early evening before relaxing or retiring. ‘Oh, but I would pass out if I did not eat a little every few hours!’ I hear you say. If you feel very hungry or tired during the day, eat a sandwich, but wait! Try this first and it will pick you up like a fresh breeze:
1. Find a clean floor space to lie down on a yoga mat or folded towel for a few minutes.
2. Stretch out fully, breathe deeply and feel your body relaxing into gravity.
3. Sit up and drink plenty of fresh water.
This simple procedure will give you instant energy and you may not need that snack after all. If you really must eat something, have a piece of raw vegetable or fruit.
3. No Drinking While Eating
A meal should be balanced in such a way that you don’t need to ‘drink’ your food down. A bite of food should contain enough raw, juicy vegetables or salad ingredients to moisten the mouth while chewing.
If you need to drink while you eat, it means that the composition of your meal is not properly balanced. Swallowing mushy, overcooked, dark brown food is not appetizing. Such food has poor nutritional value and is not easily digested. Raw vegetables, rich in fiber, mixed into a bite of food, boost the preliminary digestive process. Chewing produces saliva, and its useful enzymes begin digestion before the food even descends into the stomach. Rinse your mouth with water after eating your meal (to clean your teeth) but don’t, as a rule, drink during meals unless a special ‘wine and dine’ occasion demands the odd sip to toast for social etiquette.
4. Reduce or Omit Meat and Dairy
Why I Became Vegetarian
The dance studio was situated in a courtyard shared with the back entrance of a butcher’s shop. Every morning a large van delivered huge carcasses which were weighed outside in the yard. The legs of beef that were hanging from the scales seemed much larger than the leg of any cow I had ever seen in a field. Is the meat enhanced with growth hormones or steroids? I wondered.
Flies were zooming to and fro from the garbage cans to the meat, happily gorging themselves on fresh blood. Stray dogs, cats and birds would negotiate any spare bones and leave their excretions behind. It wasn't long after moving in that we called in the health inspector who got the yard cleaned up. On the up side, the nasty experience was going to teach me the biggest lesson in my life.
Our Fatties class
On Tuesday nights I taught a fitness class for our more weighty clients. Some of their thighs were so large, they strongly resembled the legs of the beef I had seen hanging from the butcher's scale. Some of the women's thighs were so fat, they were rubbing together, causing soreness and impaired walking.
When I questioned our heavier clients about their diets my hunch was confirmed. They all turned out to be regular meat-eaters, some of them eating meat with every meal (that's, 3 times a day!). Are the weight enhancing agents being transmitted to the consumer? Watch the next video to find out the bitter truth about the meat industry. We are what we eat from what they eat (the ones we eat).
Advantages of a Vegetarian Diet
The positive side of this nasty story is that once I stopped eating meat I discovered a wealth of new tastes. I now spend a lot less time cooking and have gained better skin, hair, nails and teeth in the bargain. So if you are determined to lose weight fast, say good bye to meat. After a few weeks you won’t even like it any more. Cooked meat will look to you like rubber and taste like wet cardboard that stays stuck in your teeth. You don’t need meat, you are meat.
If you think it inconceivable to survive without meat, eat it only occasionally and not more than twice a week and make sure you know where and how the meat you consume is produced (an almost impossibility).
How much Meat Do YOU Eat?
Weaning the Stomach
The stomach is a bit like a child: give it something and it will want more until it is full. If you don’t start eating first thing in the morning, when your stomach is half asleep, when your digestive system has not even had time to empty its contents, your stomach doesn't really want any food. Not having been active since the big dinner you gulped down last night, the energy gained from that dinner has not yet been used. You might be in the habit of eating first thing in the morning, but as you will notice, and contrary to common beliefs, your body does not need any food at this early hour. Now let us see how all this can be put into practice.
How Long Does it Take for Your Stomach to Shrink?
By putting into practice the 4 new guidelines to shrink the stomach and following the timescale below it should only take a few weeks to notice a difference.
Week One – Skip Breakfast
Have a drink of fruit or vegetable juice instead of breakfast to help empty your bowels from the previous day’s gastronomic abuse. You may drink water throughout the day as much as you please. By lunchtime, provided you have by then emptied your bowels, eat yourself to the full and avoid meat if you possibly can. Ditto for dinner time. By the third day or so, your stomach size will already have shrunk slightly from skipping breakfast and from being allowed to have had a rest by being empty for a few hours in the morning. Do this for two weeks. Do not continue to the next step until you are comfortable up to this point by just skipping breakfast.
Week Three – Skip Lunch
Once successful with skipping breakfast (it might take you longer than two weeks, you might fail and have to start again at the beginning) go on and skip lunch. At lunchtime, have one of your favorite juice drinks. Now get into the routine of doing something you enjoy; like walking, or sleeping, or reading, or going to the hairdresser or library, or (if you must) go clothes shopping, or whatever takes your fancy and distracts you from eating. In all circumstances, don’t binge. By tea time or supper time, eat yourself to the full but go easy on meat.
After the third week, your stomach size will have shrunk even more from skipping breakfast and lunch. Now you will require smaller portions to fill you up at your evening meals. Keep this up for two weeks. By now you’ll begin to feel the benefits of shrinking the size of your stomach.
Benefits of Shrinking Stomach Size
- Feel more comfortable in your body
- No more hemorrhoids and stool blockages
- Feel less bloated
- Have more energy
- Move better, be fit, strong
- More time to do the things you enjoy doing other than cooking and eating
- Save money to go to the movies, or buy some more essential oils for your bath pampering sessions.
- Fit into nice looking clothes
- Look and feel better
- Be proud of your achievement
- Be in a good mood because your body is happier and more active
After the fourth week, your digestive system should gradually begin to function normally. How do you know when your digestive system function normally? When elimination takes place regularly once a day in the morning shortly after you get up. If this is not the case, carry on skipping breakfast and lunch.
Another Common Objection
“But I’ll faint if I don’t eat all day.” Answer: Nonsense, if you eat real healthy food, one meal a day is sufficient for now. Besides, if you are overweight, you have enough fat reserves to keep you going for at least three weeks without any food at all. So stick to this method of shrinking stomach size for at least a month to enjoy its long lasting results.
How to Keep the Weight Down?
Once your stomach size has shrunk back to its normal size, you will be able to eat three meals a day again. Provided those meals consist of real, unprocessed, non-addictive food you will no longer be craving for food all day because by now you are no longer starved of valuable nourishment. The portions will be normal and that is how you will keep the weight down for good, by giving your stomach a well deserved rest between meals.
Ode to the Digestive System
Think of a digestive system as an employee. He works his guts out every hour of every day for no pay, doing one of the most important jobs of keeping you alive. Do you ever give him a thought? No, he's taken for granted. Even when he is protesting with heart burns, bloating, excessive farting etc. desperately trying to tell you he isn't happy in his job, you ignore him.
All your digestive system wants is to be kept clean and given enough time to do his job properly. So why not show some responsibility and respect for this hardworking employee in the tower block of your body?
To Sum Up
Weight control by shrinking stomach size is a fun and easy way to lose weight because you are tricking your stomach into reducing its size with its own nature:
- In the morning the digestive system can only absorb food after it's had a good clean out.
- Take that evening meal as close as possible to bedtime. And don’t believe the myth that it's bad for you to go to sleep on a full stomach. This is only the case if your stomach is overfilled to the brim with food that is
- over priced
plus a good dose of alcohol.
So provided you stay clear of the poisons and own up to your digestive system's two humble desires:
- to be kept clean
- be given enough time to do its job properly
then you will succeed on your journey to shrinking the size of your stomach.
Good luck and please feel free to share your thoughs or ask a question in the discussion below.
