Angioedema And Its Treatment

A few years back:

It was one fine morning but not so fine for me, because I woke up with an oversized swollen lip and half upper face. I was so scared and perplexed that I immediately went to the emergency room where the doctor gave me an antiallergic shot and told me that it is what we called in medical terminology angioedema or urticaria (hives). Both are different but often coexit. My angioedema slowly got resolved and I was back to normal, then again after a few days, I got angioedema in my legs and hands. Then again I popped a pill prescribed by the doctor and got well. But then it began a ritual that twice or thrice in every week I was getting this nostalgic excessively itchy angioedema in almost every part of my body and popping a pill. Then came the solution, which I will discuss in the last paragraph of my article.

The situation now:

What is angioedema?

It is a form of brisk swelling occurring in the dermis, mucous membranes, submucosal tissues and subcutaneous fat. This is similar in nature to urticaria or hives and often coexits with each other with the only difference that urticaria or hives happens in the upper layer of the skin whereas angioedema in the deeper layer. Symptoms of angioedema differ like it may include swelling of the tongue, facial skin, mucous membranes of throat and mouth. In the swollen areas, there may be partial loss of sensation or there could be itchiness with or without urticaria.

What Causes angioedema?

Different classifications of angioedema:

Ø Mainly it is the allergic angioedema which responds to an allergen, such as grass, leafy vegetable, lead fumes, sunlight or thousand of other inducing factors.

Ø Angioedema could be drug-induced due to reactions from certain medications.

Ø Hereditary angioedema, i.e., family history of angioedema.

Is it lethal?

At times, angioedema could be a medical emergency if the symptoms rapidly progresses. It can cause airway obstruction which leads to suffocating the sufferer and so medical emergency, but not always.

Is there any permanent treatment of angioedema?

Yes of course there is and I am going to write my own experience about how I got permanently treated and leading an angioedema, urticaria or hive free life.

When I first developed angioedema alongwith hives or urticaria, I immediately went to an allopathic doctor who gave me antiallergic shot and I was well in few hours. He also prescribed me antiallergic pills and I only have to pop it if there were signs of angioedema, but it was not cure. So, I was looking for some permanent cure which can make me disease free. I searched through every possible reference material to get to the bottom of it and then someone suggested me the way to eradicate it is homeopathy. First I was a bit skeptic but I was so perturbed with this nostalgic angioedema that I was willing to try any untrodden path. So, I finally relented and went to a known homeopathy doctor. He asked me a few questions like if I have family history of angioedema, if I am constipated, the time since the angioedema started, my dietary habits, or if I have notice a particular things which is inducing my angioedema. Then, most importantly he asked me if I am taking any allopathic medicine and he told me to stop them immediately. He then gave me medicine and asked me to avoid a few things which induces angioedema like be away from grass, plants, raw vegetables, etc., till the time I am completely cured. Once I am completely cured, I can do anything I want. He also told me that homeopathy is a slow but concrete treatment that it will take time but completely cure the ailment. After a few weeks, my angioedema started disappearing in its severity and after six months, I announced one fine day that I am angioedema free and I went to the doctor and he asked me to stop the medication and enjoy the life as before. It is now six years, I am thankful to the great man who advised to seek the permanent cure in homeopathy.
