Being Grateful for the Curve Balls in Life

Updated on August 24, 2018

What Is Gratitude?

Simply put gratitude is the awareness of what we have and being thankful for it. Gratitude can be found anywhere and in any situation if we just look for it. Some people choose of course to ignore the good in things and focus on the negativity, this in turn usually ends up making the said person miserable. Gratitude is turning the negativity into positivity.

How do I put this to use?

Alright so your ready to find some positivity in your life. Tired of being miserable? Good then we are off to a great start. The basics are really easy and can do a world of good. Let's say you are out and have no paper to write out a list....maybe your even driving. Mental list can be done to. I routinely do a mental list when I don't have the tools or time to jot things down. Okay let's set the tone. You're driving home from work, you've had a horrific day, lost a sale, the boss is mad, your car payments past due, the electric bill is coming any day and you don't get paid until next week. Sounds pretty bad right? Yea sure, you've had a rough week or month even things are piling up and your having a hard time meeting your responsibilities. You can also turn it all around and make your self feel a bit better about it. How? Just like this. Look at it like this your breathing, you have a job, there are more sales coming and maybe even better ones, you have a car payment which means you have a car and your not walking, the electric bill is coming due which means you have electricity and obviously a home and last but not least there are people out there praying for the responsibilities that you have and are complaining about.

Some Examples To Be Thankful For

So now that we have a pretty good idea of what gratitude is and how we can use it let's brainstorm some things we can have gratitude for. It's always good to start small and add on if needed with anything. Small changes usually stick best. Here is a short list to give you some ideas.

  1. Car payment...you have a car.
  2. A crying kid....your able to be a parent.
  3. Dirty laundry....you have clothes to wear.
  4. A mandatory meeting at work....you have a job.
  5. Price of food at the store....you have access to clean edibles.
  6. Medical bills....you have access to health care.
  7. A leaky faucet....you have water.
  8. Bill collectors calling.....you have a phone.
  9. Traffic jam....your dont have to walk.
  10. A loved one dies suddenly.....they did not suffer.

Now That You Get It

Alright now that you get the idea of turning negatives into something to be grateful for it is all up to you.

Go out there and be the most grateful humans ever! You'll feel better and maybe you will help someone else. Gratitude is contagious!
