Want To Lose Weight? I Found 7 Foods That Can Help You Lose Weight

Updated on June 18, 2014

If you have ever seen a nutritionist or worked out with a personal trainer, both will tell you that what you put on your plate is super important for successful weight loss. I am not talking about just adding more fruits, veggies and lean protein (chicken and fish). However, there are certain foods that you can add to your everyday diet that can aide to a speedier weight loss. Why not spice up your grocery list with the seven foods and get ready to see the pounds melt away.

1. Hummus

Studies have shown that individuals who regularly eat chickpeas, especially this delicious chickpea dip, on average, eight percent smaller waistlines than those who don't. The reason behind this is because chickpeas are jam packed with fiber and protein that keep you fuller longer.

2. Chocolate

No Joke!! I was just as shocked when I came across this super food but higher chocolate consumption was associated with lower abdominal fat. I personally highly recommend dark chocolate due to it's antioxidant properties, which may help in increasing your metabolism. Just because dark chocolate is a super food doesn't mean go over board and start over indulging. Please remember that moderation is key.

3. Oat Bran

Eating oat bran as part of a health breakfast can curb your appetite, just like hummus, oat bran has a bunch of fiber.

4. Tea

Calling all tea lovers world wide! The caffeine in this super drink will help your body oxidize fat much faster. I am a huge fan of green tea for not only does it speed up metabolism but also helps with getting rid of excess bloating and water weight.

5. Prunes

Yes, I know what your thinking, eww prunes. However, just a handful of this dried fruit consumed daily can help lose weight much faster than those who didn't.

6. Avocado

This fruit is so jam packed with fiber, potassium and health fats that packing just half of this fruit can curb your appetite and minimize the amount of trips you make to the vending machine. I personally am not a fan of avocado on its own so I make guacamole with the avocado, not only are you eating one of these super foods its also a delicious alternative to those fatty cream dips.

7. Peanuts or Peanut Butter

My personal favorite. I put two teaspoons of peanut butter on a whole wheat english muffin in the morning and no joke my hunger is curbed until its time for lunch as well as it making me less likely to snack. Again, moderation is key so just limit yourself to two teaspoons of this protein packed super food and feel fuller longer. P.S this nutty goodness is also fairly low in calories.

Now I am not claiming to be a nutritionist or personal trainer I am just your everyday mother who has recently got my body back after baby. While trying to lose the weight I did a bunch of research on how to eat healthier and what foods aide in weight loss, that is how I came up with this list.
