Ways to fight food cravings

Distractions

Boredom is one of the big reasons why people crave for something to eat. Keeping oneself busy is the easiest way to ignore these cravings. Listening to music, reading a book or running an errand is one the best ways to keep a person occupied.

Substitute

Food cravings are not always specific. Sometimes when a person craves for ice cream or chocolates, one can fulfill this by looking for a healthy substitute like a banana. The idea is just to look for something that could satisfy the craving. It could be sweets or salty food or it could be a texture.

Drink Water

Hunger and thirst are usually confused. So before preparing a meal, drink water first and wait for about 10 minutes to make sure the feeling is not really hunger. If the stomach still growls, then it’s probably hunger. But this method also helps the stomach get filled up. So when the next meal comes, one will probably not eat as much.

Sleep Before Eating

Most cravings come from being too worn-out. So taking even just a power nap can get rid of the food cravings. Plus, having a good meal before sleeping will make the person gain weight.

Chew Some Gum

Chewing gum keeps the mouth busy. But don’t just chew any kind of gum, go for sugarless gum. Sugar-free gum is also good for the teeth because it contains Xylitol which helps to lessen tooth decay and gum disease.

Herbal Tea

If one has already had enough food for the day, have a cup of herbal tea. It has no calories, it fills up the stomach and keeps the hands and mouth busy.

Be Inspired

If a person wants to keep his or herself fit, in good shape and healthy, he/she should resist the temptation of eating junk food. Just think of what one might look like if the person over-indulges on unhealthy foods. Having unhealthy habits may lead to obesity.

Eat Fruits

What a person usually eats is what a person usually craves for. If a person is fond of eating fruits and other healthy kinds of food, he/she will most likely crave for it. So frequently eating to healthy food will help reduce cravings for unhealthy food.

Spoil Your Cravings

Having a little bit of junk food is alright but not every day. It’s alright to indulge oneself once in a while but it shouldn’t be too much. Unless the pack is finished, people tend to reach out for more. So buy only small packs of junk food to prevent over-indulging.

Fighting one’s food cravings is not easy. But avoiding to eat those unhealthy foods will have a good outcome on a person’s health.

Eating fruits is one of the best techniques to fight food cravings. There are sweet and there are sour fruits that can fulfill one’s taste to trounce the cravings that are bad for the body. Avoid drinking the packaged fruit drinks because it contains sweeteners and the flavor is artificial. It is better to drink fresh fruit juices to absorb the fruit’s nutrients well.
