Ways to Increase Your Life Expectancy

According to CDC, the life expectancy in the United States is approximately 78 years. Of course, this data proves someone living in the country has a chance to live longer than 78 years. Then again, there is a possibility that an American can die before his or her 75th birthday. Generally, life expectancy is based on the average number of years people live in a country. Life expectancy is also based on how well people take care of their health. This includes keeping fit, eating plenty of healthy foods, staying away from drugs and alcoholic beverages, and visiting doctors regularly.

Eat good, healthful foods

Eating fruits and vegetables should never be neglected because they have plenty of vitamins and minerals your body needs. If you can afford eating four or five servings of oranges everyday, you are indeed off to a good start maintaining a good diet. Whole apples are known to reduce your risk of having a heart attack because they have fiber. Don’t forget to consume food products that contain whole grain and nuts that are noted for having protein. And be sure you drink at least eight glasses of water everyday.

Limit junk foods

Be sure that you don’t eat too much foods that have high levels of sugar, cholesterol, and fats. Avoid eating something that is loaded with so much cholesterol and sodium each time you eat at your favorite restaurant. Instead, make the effort to prepare home-cooked meals that don’t require using frying oil. Resist candies, cookies, and ice cream that normally contain high levels of sugars. Drink water and natural juices instead of soda pop.

You don't have to completely abandon junk foods like potato chips, but limiting them and others high in fat helps you feel more energized.

Maintain a healthy weight

One of the leading causes of death can be due to being overweight. If you’re overweight, or even obese, there’s a chance of having a heart attack. To find out if you have a healthy weight, consult a body mass index chart (your doctor or local hospital should also have one), which is based on your height and your weight. It is a good idea to check your weight at least once a week, and make sure you don’t exceed the level where you become overweight. If you need help how to keep your weight at healthy levels, talk to your doctor about it.

Exercise

Once you exercise at least five days a week, you’ll feel energized when you wake up to start your day. Your body will become flexible, decreasing the risk of developing arthritis. Walk or jog for twenty to thirty minutes, five days each week. You can do so in a park, around your neighborhood block, or in the comfort of your home. As for muscular fitness, it not only improves your appearance, but it makes you stronger as well. You can visit a gym to use free weights or an exercise band to tone the muscles in your body. Do so three days a week. In addition, you can always visit your local wellness center for more information on how you can get fit.

Get plenty of sleep

Giving your body plenty of rest is beneficial for being in a good mood, rather than being grouchy all day. Once you sleep, your body system will “detoxify,” allowing you to freshen up. Adults should sleep an average eight hours a day. As you go to sleep, you want to sleep in a comfortable bed that has good pillows and comfortable blankets.

Prohibit stress

Stress isn’t healthy for anybody of any age. Too much stress can rise your blood pressure, which can lead to a heart attack. You can learn to stay happy by simply doing things you enjoy everyday, such as working at your hobbies, going to a park, spending time with your pets, and so forth. Plan a day out of town to anticipate activities that please you. For starters, a trip to a beach is a terrific stress reliever.

Stay away from tobacco and alcoholic drinks

You can certainly increase your life expectancy by simply not smoking cigarettes and consuming alcoholic beverages like beer and wine. Beer, wine, and whiskey are often common at some parties and celebrations, and if a person drinks too much of those drinks, problems on roadways can arise. So don’t drink any beverages containing alcohol, and lay off those tobacco products.

See your doctor on a regular basis

The ideal way for people to find out how well they’re taking care of their bodies is by visiting their doctors at least twice a year. When you see your doctor, you can request to get your blood pressure checked, see how much you weigh, and more. If your doctor discovers a disease that needs special attention, he or she will tell you, and soon it will be up to you to know how to care for it the right way.

You have a purpose. The purpose is to have a healthy life. If you care about that so much, you should take care of your body the correct way. Work very hard to eat right, exercise, and stay alive and well.
