We All Must Be Going Crazy Out Here.

Updated on February 22, 2014

Wow this photo was taken with a phone camera and sent to me from France to California seconds later.

That is crazy wild technology, and in this case very cool.

Let us look at the new crazy a bit.

Don't smoke and don't drink. People used to watch Dean Martin smoking a cigarette and drinking booze on TV. And they probably were smoking and drinking while watching him. Nowadays that would be crazy! In the late forties into the early sixties the US government blew up atomic bombs on our soil to test for all kinds of things. Now that was crazy! Up until about 1970 it would not be unusual to see 3 children under 10 riding down the highway in the back of a pickup (bed) with absolutely no safety measures. Wow that was really crazy.

They say that 40 is the new 30. Well I say that crazy is the new sane. Just going along like everybody else just no longer makes sense. Let us have look.

Let us explore some new craziness that might just be very sane.

This is in 1984 Wow!

Moved to Southern California in 1979

One of the first things this country bumpkin did was go to a great baseball game. My home town had expanded to way over 20 thousand people by that time. The baseball stadium had 60 thousand people in it. That was just crazy to me. They say that 111.5 million people watched the Super Bowl this year on TV's, I do not care but that is crazy. Now hold on to your hats for this one: Over 3,400 heart transplants were done last year and about 2 percent were failures. What in the hell?!! That is crazy wild cool.

This writer is about 20 years post -- Stage 4, Non-Hodgkins lymphoma with pancreatic involvement -- a clear and convincing death sentence. That is just crazy lunacy.

Did I mention that we have a robotic explorer on Mars and that we landed on the moon.

Here is a strange one. My young son is about 99% processed sugar free in his diet. We no longer generally use DDT. I can eat wholly organic and safe foods. Cars can get 100 miles per gallon of fossil fuels. The air in Los Angeles is safe to breath about 300 days out of the year. We are saving more species than we are endangering. And rain forests are not being destroyed for no good reason. Horrible nasty disgusting tyrants are actually on the decline.

What a crazy and fantastic world to live in where we are growing better in so many areas.

A mere two hundred years ago we did not preserve lands as a rule.

Now my Grand Canyon is owned and preserved by several hundred million of us. That is crazy.

Here are some really crazy day to day deals.

In big cities people are generally polite and civil enough to share a roadway with thousands of others and not collide. Perhaps that is more a miracle than crazy. Homosexuals are generally accepted in developed nations and have a good place in society. Mixed race marriages are common. The USA has a black man for president. Most countries give women the same rights as men. Children are no longer property of their parents.

Here are some now common crazy values:

Bigotry is wrong.

Tolerance is promoted.

Medical care is normally a right.

Child labor is now internationally not acceptable.

Violence against innocence is now not acceptable.

Now do not be all crazy about this but a mere hundred years ago these things were not the rule but the acception.

But the point is clear that good things are happening where the craziness of the past is now recognized as crazy. We call that progress and I can dig it.

I kind of agree here.

Let us look hard at crazy written by a crazy man, God bless him!

My thanks to Gnarls Barkley and associates for the above tune and these wonderful lyrics that I will break up to make editorially a comment piece and not a copyright issue.

I remember when,
I remember, I remember when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that place
Even your emotions have an echo in so much space

We are right to lose our minds. Our crazy thoughts cause pain. Our loving hearts cause growth. Lose it baby.

And when you're out there without care
Yeah, I was out of touch
But it wasn't because I didn't know enough
I just knew too much

When we know too much we lose ourselves. Change is an inside job without brilliance from within.

Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
Possibly

Crazy is the new sane!

And I hope that you are
Having the time of your life
But think twice
That's my only advice

Come on now, who do you
Who do you, who do you, who do you think you are?
Ha ha ha, bless your soul
You really think you're in control?

Well I am the director, actor, producer and camera man in my daily productions. That is crazy.

Well, I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
Just like me

My heroes had the heart
To live their lives out on a limb
And all I remember
Is thinking, I want to be like them

My heroes have always been a bit out there in life. I reckon that is a safe perspective but I have to think about that. I need to get out there because the in here is not so pretty.

Ever since I was little
Ever since I was little
It looked like fun
And it's no coincidence I've come
And I can die when I'm done

But maybe I'm crazy
Maybe you're crazy
Maybe we're crazy
Probably
ouh ouh crazy

I get up in the morning and know and no that I am crazy. But I do my best to do no harm.

Our lands are now being protected and not destroyed for the most part.

It is a scientific and understood fact that in about 1960 I walked here barefoot and with no shirt. And that exposed me to radiation from the four corners atomic bomb blasts. That was crazy.

Love is crazy and unconditional love is even more crazy.

Did you know that dads can now act all the loving they want to with kids? And many many dads are now primary care givers? I am a big old tough guy, born and bred to manliness. I was brought up to know that men do not do dishes or interfere in the kitchen. They take out garbage and do heavy lifting and hard chores. They fix lights and plogged drains and must change the oil in the car and fix flat tires. While they can grow food in a garden, flowers are not acceptable work.

Times have changed and I now get to tell stories at my son's preschool with rug rats crawling all over me and hugs from children and teachers. Whoa! What a crazy world this is.

I can preach on Sunday and I can work on Monday. I can rest when I can and a man can make a living through hard word and that is so crazy compared to the last 5 thousand years.

We like to think mankind has come so far but let me tell you a secret. It is not 5 thousands years It is you. You lift me and so many others, do not give up I need hardcore craziness and I need you. There are some things that we can call crazy. But that love that we feel and give to each other is beyond crazy and miracles. I makes our crazy world come back to us in full force and love heals even our past.

You are the end to crazy and you are the beginning of crazy. Be you and it will make sense of the crazy.

Honey wonderful they do not send mine out right. Some of us are censored. That is cool and I live with it. Perhaps I am Jew or gay in their eyes. We are what we are. And we live with it.

Yes, there is a lot of truth in your point. I have seen some big changes for the better in my lifetime.

But we have not attained Utopia yet. I'm wondering what are some things that our society accepts now that before long will be considered to have been bad crazy. There is quite a bit of bad craziness exposed in THE NEW JIM CROW by Alexander. Or how about burning oil from tar sands for energy, or palm tree oil companies tearing down tropical forests, at the same time that global warming and its consequences keep getting worse? And?

Tim you are unique. I would appreciate you just throwing some stuff out there. I will read, and I will think because of you. Some folk stand and others sit. I prefer those who stand for something. Please kick some ass, we need it!

Hi Sparlea, I only wish they went so fast. I am the primary care giver to our four year old. During writing that we danced and boogied to the tunes therein. And we build a block castle and laughed at silly Donald Duck. We live crazy here and I pray my boy likes it too. I will come by to visit a very fun friend.

As a former newspaper writer/editor, I really appreciate your columns. They give a unique perspective that I don't find anywhere in the print media (God forbid they do anything that isn't blah, blah, blah.) Thanks for your point of view and I look forward to others. Who knows, I might begin writing again after this teaching/counseling gig is over.

My sis always has said, 'There's a good crazy and a bad crazy. I'm a good crazy."

You, too, dear hub friend. God bless you real good. I love the fearlessness in your writings and I so respect that you are genuine and you tell it as you see it. Sparklea :)
