A high protein and low carbohydrate diet can work wonders for your body. People have multiple opinions regarding a high protein and low carb diet. There are plenty of people who would suggest you to stay away from a high protein and low carb diet. I would agree to them TO SOME EXTENT. Reducing your carbohydrate intake to negligible and living only on protein will surely harm your body. Carbohydrates are the source of energy and without energy even the proteins would fail to work. Besides, a diet too high in protein can prove a bit too heavy on your kidneys and liver.

BUT only when you start following a very low carb and a very high protein it would harm you. If you can maintain a balance and consume the amount of carbohydrates your body needs and the protein your system can sustain you will soon build up an enviable physique. Regulate your protein and carbohydrate intake and you will lose significant amount of weight and build greater muscle mass and stamina. A high protein and low carb diet is much more beneficial than fasting and dieting because it keeps nurturing your body and ensures it has significant amount of energy. Dieting and fast drain your body of nutrients and energy and cause lethargy. With minimum physical activity the chances of losing excessive fat are thin. At the end of the fast routine there are chances you will be left fat and weak. This is what a high protein and low carb diet seeks to improve. Unlike fast a low carb and high protein diet ensures that your body gets enough carbs to sustain itself and enough protein that can be easily digested and that can assist muscle growth.

When there is little carbohydrate in the body the metabolism shifts to a different state where the body uses the fats to release energy. This process is called ketosis. However, before you start on a low carb and high protein diet you are suggested to consult a doctor and determine your minimum carbohydrate requirement.
