Weight Watchers Points Plus...How it Works, and What Accessories and Materials are Needed.

Updated on July 15, 2011

How Weight Watchers Works

Weight Watchers utilizes a points system to promote healthy weight loss by "teaching" you how to eat healthy. Weight Watchers is proven to work and it can and should become more of a lifestyle choice. Weight Watchers is not a crash or fad diet, and does not restrict any food groups in particular. Every person gets a daily points bank, and every food and drink item has a points value starting at zero on up. You would add up the points to the items you comsume and deduct from your weekly points. You can also add points for exercise, as well as you have extra weekly points that can be used should you have a special occasion, but they do not have to be used.

How to Become a Member

There are a few ways to become a member of Weight Watchers. You can go to a meeting room in your area. These typically cost about $12 a week (however I think the first week is more since you get an analysis). Weight Watchers counselors will determine how man points you get based on your body weight and goal weight. You will then get some materials to get you started.

You can also join online. This cost is cheaper, and you can still determine your points calues online by filling out their form. The difference is that you ahve to guide your way through the process.

What Materials are Needed

There are many materials that are available to you to aide in your Weight Watchers Weight Loss process. First lets start out with the Complete Food Companion. The Complete Food Companion gives you the Points Plus values for a variety of foods so it makes it easier to calculate your points. The Dining Out Companion gives you Points Plus values for many of your favorite restaurant foods. There is a 3 Month Journal to help you track everything form the foods you eat, to extra activity points. They also came up with these cute journal covers that helps hide and protect your journal. you can choose from plain blue, blue crocodile print, or polka dot. They are not making the plain blue and the polka dot anymore, so get them fast. They are sold on Amazon.

On to Kitchen items. They made these handy dandy stainless steel measuring spoons that measure your portion size perfectly so know know what you are putting in your mouth, and the exact points values for it.

There is also a great kitchen scale that when you weight items and put in what the item is, it automatically gives you points values for these items.

There are also numerous other items to help you in your healthy journey. They have calculators to calculate your points values, points clickers, cookbooks, food items and much much more. It you don't want to pay monthly fees at a meeting location, or online you can buy these products from Many people have the items listed. Just make sure you talk to someone and understand how to calculate your points first, and you can just buy the items and do it on your own.
