Your Body Mass Index Helps You Define Your Healthy Body Weight

A body mass index is a measurement that allows you to know if you are having any medical problems due to excess body weight.

The following calculations of body mass index measurements for adults are: If you are under 18.5, your are considered to be underweight. If you are between 18.5-24.9, you are at a normal weight range. But, if you gain any weight or get close to 25, you will be in the overweight range which is 25-29.9.

If you have a body mass index of 30 and above you are considered to be obesity. Which puts you at risk of serious medical problems such as: high blood pressure , coronary heart disease, stroke, high cholesterol, arthritis, kidney disease, breathing and problems sleeping, cancer, depression and diabetes which a greater risk of periodontal disease.

Today doctors and dental professionals need to explain to their patients, what their body mass index means, how to live a healthy lifestyle and change their eating habits such as; never skip breakfast, limit snacks between meals and minimize drinking sugary beverage.
