Most of us use the term Anti oxidants quite often.

But do you know, what are Anti oxidants?

  • You may have heard nutritionists talking about this---that you must include Anti Oxidants in your diet.
  • So what is it that makes it so essential?
  • Anti Oxidants are those nutrients, which protect the tissues in your body from wear and tear.
  • The Anti Oxidants not only provide internal protection to your cells but also help in rejuvenating them.
  • That is why you will find them as one of the main component in Anti aging creams and moisturizers.
  • And if your skin is healthy from inside then your outer skin is bound to appear healthy.
  • Speaking from a layman's point of view, what I understood, when my nutritionist recommended me to include Anti oxidants in my diet--- I am going to share that here.
  • Moreover, if the nutrients are consumed by natural means, that is through Food, it is easily digested in our body and we do not have the risk of side effects caused by medicines or overdose of these pills.

Antioxidants are really like little bodyguards inside your body that protect your cells from disease.

How To Include Anti oxidants In Our Daily Diet To Avoid Deficiency:

Supplementing Anti Oxidants In Your Diet The Natural Way:

Mother Nature has provided many fruits and vegetables, which can supplement our daily requirement of Anti Oxidants. Only important thing is to include those as per your taste and season in your diet.

# 1. Vitamin C :

Vitamin C is a very powerful Anti Oxidant, which protects our skin from the harmful effects of the Sun rays.

Green vegetables,

Oranges,

Lemon and other citrus fruits,

Gooseberries,

Strawberries and cherries,

Grapes, Black currants etc. are very good sources of Vitamin C.

# 2. Vitamin E :

This is another Anti Oxidant, which not only protects the skin from harsh Sun rays but also maintains its texture.

Wheat germ,

Sunflower seeds and its oil,

Sweet potatoes,

Avocado,

Spinach are some of the very good sources of Vitamin E.

# 3. Omega 3 fatty acids :

This has the anti inflammatory properties and thus protects our cells both internally and externally, in case there is any inflammation.

Salmon, Tuna and other fishes,

Olive oil,

Nuts like walnuts etc. have ample amount of Omega 3 fatty acids.

# 4. Zinc :

To repair and rejuvenate cells, this Anti Oxidant is particularly essential. Especially for persons suffering from acne and skin problems, this is an important Anti Oxidant to be included in your diet.

Seafood like Lobster, crab, oysters;

Chicken and fish;

Almonds and peanuts;

Kidney beans etc. are good source of Zinc.

# 5. Vitamin A :

To repair the cells, especially for hair and skin.

Green leafy vegetables;

Yellow fruits and veggies like pumpkin and papaya, are very helpful to supplement Vitamin A.

# 6. Vitamin B Complex :

To maintain the health of your skin in every possible way, you must include Vitamin B Complex in your daily diet.

Whole grains;

Nuts;

Almonds and Peanuts;

Yellow fruits and veggies like pumpkin and papaya, are very helpful to supplement Vitamin A.

Meat;

Banana, are some of the rich source of this Anti Oxidant.

Besides include garlic, onion, green tea in your daily diet. They are good source of Anti Oxidants.

As our population ages, we are continually looking for ways to maintain our mental and physical skills. While these laboratory animal studies are certainly preliminary and much more work needs to be done, we know that consuming high levels of natural dietary antioxidants is a good thing from a number of perspectives. And it appears that drinking Concord grape juice has the potential to help retard the mental and physical declines of aging.

A word Of Caution--Avoid Overdose:

  • Doctors and nutritionists believe that if you are taking a balanced diet, it is not necessary to take supplements.
  • Too much of everything is bad for health. Thus consuming too much of Anti Oxidants as supplements may harm your health rather than doing any good.
  • Nowadays, any supplement can be obtained, off the shelf, at the chemist's store. They are very easily available.
  • It is wise to take your doctor's advice before taking it. And what is the need if so much of it is available the natural way.

      This is an excellent hub with very useful information.

      So many websites and articles seem to mention anti-oxidants without telling the reader what they are or what they do, so it's great to find a hub that at lasts explains them and what nutrients we should be taking to get anti-oxidants into our diet.

      Avoid overdose is excellent advice that you added to your hub. We should try our best to consume antioxidants from what we eat, excessive amounts such as supplements we might not need could cause harm. I'm not a doctor either, but this is a great hub!

      Great hub on informing us about anti-oxidants and the foods to eat to obtain them. I so enjoyed reading this and eat almost every food you mention here. There are so many nutrients in our non-processed foods and we have to go back to cooking from scratch, not popping something in the microwave and calling that cooking. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us. Voted up and shared!

      Anti-oxidants are crucial for good health. It's best to get them from natural foods but most people don't eat a healthy diet. This is why supplements can be a big help. Great hub. Voted up, useful, awesome, interesting and will share.
