What causes us to dream?

Updated on May 23, 2012

How many of you have had those dreams that have either kept you awake or maybe smile while sleeping? The majority of your dreams are they usually good or bad or can it be both at the same time? Dreams can really make people think because it makes you wonder if you dream because of something that happened that day or maybe a movie you may have seen.

Lately, I have had some kind of good dreams and bad dreams, all in the same night. Some the dreams really disturbed me because it's kind of hard to explain how those dreams made me feel when I woke up. As I woke up, those dreams made me think, what caused me to dream that way, why would I, if the night before I wasn't doing anything to trigger that dream.

I figured that it is something in the back of my mind that I haven't really explored because basically it is hard to go to the back of you head. Sometimes dreams like this come because there are emotions deep inside us that we haven't let out. We can really hide things that happen to us and maybe in our dreams it is way to let all of it go, if we don't let it out physically. Sometimes what we fear the most come out on those dreams that we have.

There is one dream that I remember clearly, you know how they see we forget some or our dreams most of the time. Well, I can say that I remember one dream very clearly because I had it as a young child and every so often I have that dream once in a while, it seems to have stayed the same though. The dream was in a toy warehouse, our class was taking a field trip to see the many toys they had and how some of them were made. My family decided to go too so you can say I was a happy girl going to a toy warehouse. Then it got dark and it all changed. The toys came to life and it had the whole class and family of mine running. We were running just to get out because we didn't want to die. I remember that dream made me really scared of toys for awhile. Thank goodness we never went to a toy warehouse because I would of probably remembered that dream.

I've had good dreams too, now the funny thing is that those are kind of hard to remember because they are the ones that make you happy but it doesn't last that long especially after you wake up.

Maybe dreams come from a subconscious part of our brain which can sometimes work more when we are asleep. I heard that a long time ago from someone and that really stuck to my mind. Who likes to read books and later find out that you had a dream from something that you may have read in the book or that particular of the chapter? Maybe even movies can trigger certain dreams because of the content that it may have had.

Dream may mean something, they could just be a figment of our imagination coming to life in our dreams, or to others just be something to remember and forget. Many people believe that there is a significant meaning to the dreams that we have and they have made dream books based on how they can interpret dreams.

I don't know about you but if dreams do mean anything then I have a lot of things in the back of my mind that come out in my dreams. I haven't tried looking for the meaning of any dream that I have had because I figure they are only dreams, but if I keep having the same dream over and over again then there is something to that dream that I am not catching the meaning of.

Do dreams have a significant meaning?
