What is Transcendental meditation?

Transcendental meditation is a meditation using a powerful and repetitive mantra. Mantra can be a spiritual word that sounds and vibrates internally in the body and creates a resonance in our minds. The mantra used in Transcental meditation helps to achieve inner states of peace by the simple repetition and rhythmic sound of chosen word. While mind is mostly trying to decode the daily problems of our lives in our hectic schedules, this powerful meditation helps to reach our inner core and bring quietness and strength to the deeper layers of our inner being. Using this meditation, we can see improvement in our emotional health, greater insights and clear thinking. This meditation can also have to break free the patterns of depression and achieve a happier state of mind.

Transcendental meditation is a very simple and powerful meditation technique and it can be useful in depression.

1. Scaling down the stress from the deeper layers. Today, young and old are facing a common problem of high stress levels in home and workplace. It can be PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) from a big crisis in life or small daily problems that keeps our body stressed out. Stress unchecked can lead to depression. Transcendental meditation is found to be beneficial to reduce stress and ultimately, reduce the incoming symptoms of depression. When an individual practices this simple meditation using simple mantras, the stress levels of the body can reduce drastically.

2. Eliminate Insomnia and provide good restoration to body. Insomnia, inability to sleep can be a big problem. It makes the person feel irritated, tired and restless. Depression and insomnia tend to go hand in hand. With constant practice of transcendental meditation, an individual is able to reach a seat of deep rest and sleep. During sleep, the body and mind recovers and restores automatically using natural mechanisms. Hence, the power of meditation using simple mantra can help you to get good sleep and keep away from depression too.

3. Improved Awareness and seeing the big picture. With consistent practice of transcendental meditation, a person can achieve clear and better view of life. Inner locus of control is one of the key achievement of meditation. We tend to think that circumstances need to change, in order for us to be happy. However, when our internal being changes with meditation, we are no longer dependent on external things. We lead a simple, happy and authentic life. Small things that used to disrupt us, no longer make us unstable. We become emotionally whole and stable with improved awareness of life and existence.

4. Healthy and positive relationships. With the practice of this meditation, an individual tend to become open, caring and cheerful. Positive thinking and thankful attitude comes naturally. Acceptance of self and others is easier. Hence, transcendental meditation helps an individual to become a better person and develop healthy and good relationships with family, friends, coworkers and even strangers. This outlooks helps to prevent or eliminate depression completely.

Hence, transcendental meditation is very useful technique to overcome the overdependencies of our mind on external things and environment. We tend to become more self aware and beneficial to society and our own family. We feel in control of our lives. We can sleep better and laugh once again. Negative thinking tends to be replaced by continous chanting of mantras, that bring peace and serenity to our mind and soul.
