What strange things have you seen people do in their sleep?

Updated on July 11, 2012

.

¸.·'★ People – both young and old have been known to do some very strange things while sleeping. Such as:

.

a) Sleep walking – This is very common. A situation whereby adults or even young kids walk around while they are still in sleep mode. It can be dangerous.

b) Sleeping with other peopleCalled Sexsomnia. A situation where a person is intimate with another person, but not aware of it because they are sleeping!! Controversial. A man was cleared of rape in America on the grounds that he didn’t know what he was doing. I still think it’s Ridiculous. I include a story of a man cleared of a Teen Rape in UK, 2011, on the grounds of Sexsomnia. Full Story

c) Sleep Texting – this I heard about only recently. It could get a lot of people into trouble. It’s bad enough that our smart phones mistakenly send text messages to the wrong person, as the phone is so touch-sensitive.

.

Sleep Texting

d) Sleep Talking – Harmless, except if you spill the beans on something your partner should not know about. E.g saying in your dreams: “Oh, I’m so glad I bought that £5,000 Gucci bag, with my sweethearts credit card….Awesome.”

e) Kicking Mum & Dad – Mostly with Kids. As a young child, sometimes if I slept in the same bed with my mum, she said I would keep on pushing her backwards with my backside, which meant she had to move back, until she nearly rolled out of bed.

.

Toddler with Mum.

f) Sleep Driving – I have never seen it happen, but many have claimed that people can drive while sleeping. In the photo below, I wonder if the driver had booked a Cruise and dreamt the boat was leaving without him/her.

So, they drove in their dreams to catch-up?

.

Missed the boat...

Smiling and Sleeping

.

The Hub is titled - "What strange things have you seen people do in their sleep?" However, on a positive, one of the most beautiful things people do when they sleep is to Smile. You wonder if they are talking to their Angel..... L❤vely.

Have you ever spotted other strange things happening while people are sleeping?

Please share below.

      Lady_E ,

Wow what an interesting topic! It seems that all manner of subconscious activity can be found to be done during the act of sleeping.

In some of these examples it seems like getting rest may end up getting folks in trouble too!

      Voted up and interesting :-)

When we were kids my older brother would be lifted up to a sitting position by his deceased grandmother. Although he was asleep he could often be heard muttering to his granny. My mother eventually got the vicar in and he exorcised the house. From then on my brother slept more soundly at night.

      Excellent Hub Lady E.

Interesting Hub! I have heard of all of them, even sleep texting. Blame it to the advancement of technology. While I was working, I use to talk targets and have conversations with my Boss and subordinates. Thank God, that days are over...

Great topic, Lady E! I used to be really bad at driving while asleep. Yes, it happens. I try not to do this anymore and get plenty of rest before driving.

When I was a kid I used to sleep walk, one night i got out of bed, went to a neighbor's house, opened the door and vomited all over her floor, went home, never remembering what i had done. Scary! The man having sex with a teen is hard to believe, but I'm not here to judge, but really!!!!!

@Dexter - I'm glad you get plenty or rest now before driving. Thanks for stopping.

@Always Exploring - Oh... your poor neighbour. Also about the man and the teen, I wish the law will be changed. I personally don't think there is such a thing as "Sexsomnia" to me - it's just a sad excuse.

      Good to see again. Thanks

I have two sister-in-laws who sleepwalk. I haven't seen them do it but they have told me their stories. Eating a chocolate cake at 3 am is one that I would have to check out as really sleepwalking or just fulfilling a craving!

Hi Dianne, Lol about the eating chocolate at 3am. I'd call it munch-walking. I also eat at odd times of the night. You are good compared to me, sometimes I have Sausages and Cheese on Toast. :-)

      Thanks for stopping.

People do absolutely weird things in their sleep! I always hear stories to how I "groan" in my sleep. Not a heartfelt chatter or anything, but I'm moaning in pain or something. Possibly Night Terrors occurring?

I have to say, this is a very interesting hub! On the note of sleep texting, that is why I keep my phone far away from me when I go to bed....

Great hub! Voted up and interesting!

I agree, it's so beautiful to see babies smile in their sleep. Lately, I've been told I laugh in my sleep (once, I woke up while laughing in my sleep) - I fell asleep while driving once, that was years ago, thank goodness I was not alone so they got me to wake up and smell the coffee. Fun hub!

Interesting topic. Sleep driving, wow! that's pretty strange, but it wouldn't surprise me. There are actually people who drive for long periods of time during the holidays without stopping. It's always good to have another designated driver just in case that person starts to feel sleepy. Sex texting is pretty weird too.. Anyone who is guilty of this should just shut their phone off. b) strange indeed. lol. The cute little pic of the baby smiling is adorable. Do you know that I have actually started laughing during my sleep? It happened because I was thinking of something funny, but I wasn't really sleeping sleeping.

@LoveDoctor - Thanks for sharing. A designated driver is a brilliant idea. I love it when people laugh in their sleep - I always think, they are very happy in their heart - Also, it's better than loud snoring. :-)

I have talking in my sleep syndrome as well! I actually sometimes wake myself up! Alot of times its something I hear in the background from the radio or Tv (I sleep with both on!). But its usually snippets of a song I tend to hear myself blabbing when I wake up during a position change or when I enter that stage of sleep where the body feels itself rested and ready to awaken!

Interesting hub and yes as Billy said the car picture was worth the admission !

I leave both of them on for a reason! the tv(in my case the computer on hulu or crackle or a network feed) so I can keep up with the news.. the radio as a backup in case the feed goes out! this way I am processing info with my subconscious mind and still learn even while I am sleeping what's going on in the world!

I'd only heard of sex while sleeping once before in my life and I thought that was made up. I enjoyed this hub and especially the photo of the cute little one smiling in his sleep. Now that's probably the best thing any of us can do while sleeping.
