When Changes Arrive...
My best friend Elizabeth Pabon, is one of those everlasting friends. She has a long life story that seems taken out from a fiction book. Her family roots always seem interesting since I met her in 1977. The picture above was her grandmother. I took the above picture a month before she died in April 2011. She was 103 years old. Sick and tired just to please my photographer desires she gave me that wonderful smile. A smile that has been pictured in my heart.
Take a good look at her ... picture yourself for a while. Would you get to her age? Are you prepared for changes?
When changes arrive...
Young people can learn valuable lessons from the elderly
"So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation, your power to all those to come."
Everybody is changing
... when changes arrive...
it is known as cause and effects. Our attitude toward changes should be a healthy one of acceptance. Then the decision if it is in our hands to "change the change".
My nest became empty... by natural causes and of course changes arrive as the effects. Movings, studies, marriage, divorce, deaths, kids joining their partners, aging...oh my goodness!!! you name it. Good and bad choices to deal were made...than I realize that the earth keeps moving and with it daily changes.
We could hide, pretend nothing is going on or just stand there looking at them like spectator in a theater and not part of the play. I guess it will depend in the situation and our own skills and attitudes. In some changes we will have to fight back. Even arrange physical or spiritual environment. Or just look around...to others experiences and learn.

Elders should be...
We need to learn, model and educate the treatment elders deserve. The Bible is the Word of God and it provides many verses concerning this theme, as the following which I will share:
Elders should be honored
“You shall stand up before the gray head and honor the face of an old man, and you shall fear your God: I am the LORD."
The elderly should be treated with respect
1 Timothy 5:1-2
"Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, in all purity."
Elders should be valued for their experience
"The glory of young men is their strength, but the splendor of old men is their gray hair."

Are you prepared for changes?
How to manage, cope and react to changes depends on our individuality. We could seek some advices, taking caution of the resource. I've seen people running almost crying out loud their changes provoked by them alone. Landing on the wrong ears...finding wrong advices.
Always seek in your heart is my best advice...look deep into your heart. We have the capacity as human to really know what is best. Being honest to ourself first...than listen to what life could say about changes. And be prepared to assume the responsibility of your decisions.
"Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good.
Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children,
to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God."
Blessings to all as we age!
