I hear that foods rich in polyphenols are very good for the skin since they are capable of making the skin healthy and beautiful. What are polyphenols and why are they good for the skin? Also, what foods contain high amounts of polyphenols in them?

What are polyphenols?

Polyphenols are extremely potent antioxidant compounds that work wonders when it comes to keeping the skin healthy and beautiful. If you are wondering what antioxidants are, just know that they are substances that fight against free radicals that damage healthy cells in the body. As a result of the job antioxidants do in the body, they are able to protect the body from things such as an accelerated aging process, unhealthy skin, and cancer. She considers him her savior and calls him every now and then to say thank you. I wonder if he sometimes feels guilty taking all the praises when in actual fact what saved this woman’s skin are the polyphenols in the olive oil that she constantly uses in moisturizing her skin and her intake of polyphenols through an increased consumption of green tea, red grapes and the other polyphenol-rich foods she takes on a daily basis.

Because of how powerful polyphenols are in keeping the skin healthy and good-looking, many manufacturers of skincare products include them in the ingredients used in making these products. These days we have moisturizers, skin cleansers, sunscreens, etc that contain substantial amounts of polyphenols. These companies don’t just use polyphenols because they love them but because of the fact that these compounds are extraordinarily good for the health and beauty of the skin.

I think it’s imperative that readers know that polyphenols are not only good for the skin, but they are also extremely wonderful in keeping us healthy. According to the US National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health, when we eat foods rich in plant polyphenols we can reduce our risks of developing heart disease, diabetes and even certain types of cancers.
