Fruits are man’s first food. Citrus fruits seem to be one of the few best fruits mother-nature endowed humans with.

This is because of their excellent mineral, photo nutrients and vitamin contents.

Vitamin C particularly is found in all fruits and vegetables. Guavas seem to have the highest concentrations of this vitamin C 86%, yet the vitamin C and citric acid potency of guavas fall below lime and lemons. Lemons has 30% vitamin.

Eating citrus fruits in varieties of 5 mixtures regularly will benefit you in many of these ways below

Vitamin C is one of the most important vitamins in all fruits and vegetables. We all need them regularly and also have to be replenished daily in whatever form or source. But be it known that citrus fruit provide the best source of the vitamin. This factor is now recognized by many dieticians and health authorities.

This vitamin later identified as ascorbic acid become significant when scurvy was the scourge of sea faring mariners: sailors, pirates and naval officers.

It became a feat of the royal navy in introducing limes and later lemons to its navy, and a respite was vitally observed. Thus scurvy was cured and lack of vitamin C was in a chop plate was the cause. This breakthrough was kept as a secret by the English navy for a long time because other countries naval personnel were on the high seas and the disease of scurvy was rampant at sea. A strong navy had to fight with a strong body and destroy the weak one.

So a person eating or serving citrus fruits regularly to his house-hold can prevent scurvy. It can even be introduce as a remedy to cure the disease as seen in the navy experiment. Vitamin C prevents and cures scurvy. This is now an accepted fact.

The vitamin C in limes and lemons has a very excellent potency in helping the body grow and develop. For this to take place, collagen the sole component of connective tissues in the body, without which tendors, skin, blood vessels, dentin and bones; wound healing and synthesis of strong ligaments becomes impossible.

This is the number one and primary reason why you need to eat these citrus fruits or drink their juices regularly, on a daily basis. Vitamin C is water soluble, and need to be replenished frequently in our diets. One tablespoonful of the juice is enough for a man. Children need half or less. The juice has to be dilute in fresh and clean. Otherwise, the undiluted juice will attack the enamel of the gum and teeth, due to its high citric acid content. 10 mg of vitamin C is need by a man per day. This you can get in one tablespoonful. But health authority recommended a minimum of 30 mg and a maximum of 100 mg per day for general body health.

But it is more important that you take the fruits in a mixture of varieties like lime, lemon and grape fruits. Or you mix oranges lime and grape fruits. In this way, you get more benefit than eating a single fruit, for not all the fruits has the same nutrient content. For example, limes have more citric acid and more vitamin C than lemons, and more sour than the other fruits. Though oranges are sweeter than all the fruits, they vitamin C content is poor. For this reasons, mix them in threes or, fours or fives, so that one complements the other in nutrient content

It is An Internal Cleansing Regime

Citrus fruits are the best cleansing regime for the body internal metabolism. On going to bed at night or rising from sleep in the morning, a glass of water flushes your bowels. But it is much better to cut and add a piece or half of either a lime or lemon in a glass of cold especially warm water as a refreshing and invigorating drink. This not only cleansed the bowels but rejuvenated and keeps your bowels in good working other. In fact, a glass of citrus fruit drink is what I and you need as a pre-breakfast before anything else in the morning.

Doing so regularly, help the vitamin C level reach saturation point or stay at peak level in the blood stream and you are sure to maintain the 30 to 100 mg recommended by health authority.

The benefit of this is that your body is well prepared to digest food stuff and absorb same.

The body is also prepared against cold virus and flu, and other viruses that can be harmful to the body. In other words, it will keep the respiratory system healthy. Vitamin C do not cure a cold, but prevent it. For this to happen, the respiratory system has to be regularly kept in good order. Eat at most five citrus fruits weekly for this to happen.

Prevents Kidney Stone Formation

Kidney stones are formed in the body for no other reason than the bad foods we eat. For example, Refined carbohydrate foods like noddles, white rice and white flour that are commonly de-mineralized and fortified with chemical additives tops the list. Drugs like synthesis vitamin C also plays a major role in this regard. You can prevent all this and dissolves the stones if they have be formed by eating this fruits or by drinking their juices. When I say drinking the juices, I mean that which is made in the home. This contained more dietary fibers than the commercial made juice. But should you drink commercial made ones, read label well before buying same. Buy that which is 100% natural

Excellent Antioxidant Properties

Anti-oxidants are free radicals or molecules that like to destroy living and healthy cells in the body. They can build up the bad cholesterol to form cancer cells. The vitamin C in citrus fruits is the most important and most excellent antioxidant element to check the destructive activities of the free radicals in the body.

This property is more enhanced if you eat the fruits along with papayas, sweet melons, red tomatoes, carrots, guavas and other lycopene fruits and vegetables. Red or pink grape fruits of all the citrus fruits play this most important function of antioxidant. “Citrus fruits have the highest antioxidant activities of all fruits, helping to boost the immune system and protect against cancer and heart dieseas.” http://www.citrusaustralia.comau/consumer-information/health-benefits.htm

It Will Develop And Strengthen The Immune System

  1. In one of my hubs on the ebolavirus scourge, I said what do doctors do to strengthen their immune system, since their easily contact a virus disease too. Doctors and health workers inclusive are an easy prey to most contagious diseases. It is the same with ordinary peoples. Take the cold virus as an example. It can affect any one who came into contact with the sufferer. Lucky to say, those with a strong immune system always escape the flu. One way to develop a strong immune system is to regularly eat the products of the citrus fruits especially limes and lemons in their natural state. These are the only fruits that are excellent in strengthening the immune system against ill-healthy and diseases (Subject: Photontrients with Antioxidant and Antibiotic Effects)

Citrus Fruits

The citrus fruit is one of the most significant fruit the earth has ever produced. Other fruits seem to be second to it. They include limes (my favorite), lemons, oranges, tangerines, grape fruits and pomelos. Being delicious (oranges and pomelos) and refreshing, limes, lemons and grape fruits, they are an all star food rich in mineral, vitamin, flavinoids or antioxidants. The above six lists is the most commonly known citrus fruits. Others are: clementine, leach lime, sweety, mandarin and kumquat; mineola. Tangelo, ugli, rough lemon and Satsuma.

All citrus fruits are mostly acid forming. But become alkaline in the blood stream after digestion.

The fruit of the plant is a berry, with a leathery peel called a flavedo or zest.

All citrus fruits are commonly noted for their rich flavonoids content. Their juice contained the highest quality of citric acids, which account for the many use in fruit juices and jams in the fruit industry. The citric acid gives the fruits its soar and sharp taste. Sad to note is that the citric acid in these fruit juice, jams and are synthesis chemical and not the real fruit acid!

They are a very good source of and various flavonoids, including flavanones and flavones.

The whole fruit including the zest, seeds and juice filled spongy pith is social and economic important, because of their many uses at home and the industries.

In culinary, its other uses include dressing vegetables and salads. Spread it over fish and meat to bring out the food flavor instead of

You can use lime or lemon to garnish your drinking water or any soft drink or mineral water.

They are too many culinary uses to put the citrus fruit into.

T o get the maximum benefits from eating citrus fruits, eat them regularly week after week. If you have not been doing so, the first week should be made a program in which you eat the fruits daily for seven days. Then, keep it to a weekly basis. Eat other fruits along with this program. You will build a very strong body, a strong digestive, immune, and respiratory system.

Hello Jasmeetk, thanks for your compliment. Now I just snack two sweet oranges as lunch with a cup of tea and few biscuits. Citrus fruits top my list of fruits and vegetables due to their versatile medicinal values. By mixing these five fruits regularly, one passed the old school of five servings a day. You get all that the body need for fitness and health.
