Seriously, Having Big Breasts Is Hard!

No one would realistically think that having two large pieces of flesh that hang from your chest would cause such distress (rhyme intended.)

The thing is, as a child you're oblivious to a multitude of things, not realising your minds extreme sensitivity during those early stages. However, as you get older you become very aware of concerning behaviours, and notice the affects of unsolicited comments/advice from people around you.

Having a large bust just isn't easy.

Here are 5 reasons why:

Reason 1.) Not Fitting In to Clothes/Bras

Don't you hate when you find a perfect garment, but when you finally try it on you realise it fits incorrectly. No matter what size you get it simply just won't fit correctly. Size up, size down. It's just not right. I've had the joy of experiencing a ton of these moments. They make you want to curl up in to a tight ball and cry your insecurities away. Due to the rapid growth of my bust, it meant I had various embarrassing moments like these. They cause your insecurities and worries to expand in new directions; you start to dislike yourself more each day.

If you thought finding clothes were bad, imagine finding bras. You may understand the perils of searching for a bra as a DD+. The infuriating part of having to go past the most beautiful, brightly coloured, sexy bras to finally reach "your section" of plain beige, black and white bras. No fun at all.

However once you finally find the bra or bralette that fits your chest perfectly; has the necessary aspects such as: support, comfort, and a great fit. You'll be happy as can be.


Reason 2.) Traumatizing Childhood

As a youngster, what you're ultimately focused on is having the time of your life running around, playing "pirates and treasure chests", making multiple friends. Not worrying about what it is that you have on your chest.

I remember being told as a child, "If you don't wear a bra whilst walking around the house, then your chest will become saggy". This statement caused me to over analyse my bust at a young age, leaving me self conscious for absolutely no reason. Other children would constantly point out the fact that my chest was larger than most of my other classmates, leading to a growth of insecurities.

Many other people have had childhoods similar to this, but not realising that this specific stage of their life has created the insecurities they continuously face now. A lot of adults/parents are oblivious to the affect of negative comments on little ones. Children that overhear parents discuss their own bodies in a negative light are probably more likely to end up scrutinizing their own.

Children are similar to sponges; they soak up information which becomes the building blocks for their future. Adults don't realise that childhood will be the most important stage of your life. It's vital to speak to your children about their bodies in a positive way rather than dishing out harsh, negative statements. Prevention is better than cure.


Reason 3.) Being Told To Lose Weight

The first thing someone might say when you discuss the problems about your chest is, "Why don't you just lose weight then?".

The problem with that question is that it doesn't definitely have to do with losing weight. As it may be a situation where the person is already petit and has a large chest, which would therefore become an issue. Or it could be a situation where the person suffers from Gigantomastia (a rare condition that causes excess growth of chest). Or it could just be a situation where weight is mostly distributed in the upper body area, and even if the person was to lose weight it wouldn't be very significant.

It's easy to say, "lose weight" when you're not educated about the bust. For many of us it's not a situation where we can easily lose weight and say bye bye to the bust.



Reason 4.) Pain

Often those with a larger bust experience some sort of pain or discomfort because of the weight of their chest. Carrying those large jugs can take a toll on your back. This reason can vary from a lack of bra support, to your chest being too large for your frame. Pain symptoms can take place during daily activities, and is very prevalent during exercise (limiting the forms of exercise that you can do).

Skin infections can also occur from moisture under the bust, creating an efficient breeding space for bacteria. (If this is the case, please visit a doctor to help sort out this issue)

Even though pain might be limiting what you can do within your day to to day life. There's always ways around a problem. Google, doctors, and personal trainers will become your best friend when looking for alternatives. For example, if you are struggling to get involved with intense cardio excercise, look in to cardio kick boxing (this still allows your heart rate to increase with minimal jumping.)

Don't feel defeated.

Reason 5.) Being Critisised

Many people see a large bust as a blessing due to many odd reasons. Because of this, there is a hyperawareness towards larger chests that somehow causes people to think they have the right to spit out unsolicited comments.

A large bust has become a fetish for many. However this fetish seems to lower the respect given to individuals with this asset. Others suddenly believe they can shame people with large busts who decide to reveal a bit of cleavage in a low cut top. Or may be you chose not to wear a bra because it's hot and your chest sweats excessively with a bra on. Apparently everyone has the right to comment on that chest of yours.

You should be able to do as you please with your bust, it's your body. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Learn To Love Your Bust

Having a large bust is a constant uphill battle. Having to face childhood traumas each day. Having grown adults poke and prod and your chest. It's a challenge, I have to admit.

If you are considering surgery/going through the process of surgery, I wish you well. However if you (like me) are trying to learn to love your bust for what it is, here are some tips:


Top Tips For Learning To Love Your Bust:

  • Consider therapy (talking about insecurities can help alleviate them)
  • Follow body positive influencers (Chidera Eggerue - The Slumflower. I've actually purchased her book "What A Time To Be Alone" and I can honestly say it has transformed many aspects of my life; allowing me to see how valued I am. - #saggyboobsmatter)
  • Say positive affirmations about your bust each day
  • Go bra shopping in places that specifically cater for larger chests (Bravissimo; I own a bralette from them that helped me start my journey on a good note.)
  • Go to a naked body painting workshop
  • Go to a nudist beach (take that bra off!)
  • Do a boudoir photoshoot


Hopefully, from reading this article you can now see that most of your current insecurities may have stemmed from previous traumas by other people. So consider looking within yourself, and understanding that nothing is wrong with your bust. There are ways to find a new love for those beauties on your chest. I do hope you as a reader will be able to receive some comfort from reading this article; being able to acknowledge the issues you may face, and overcome them.
