Why I Want to Loose Weight

Updated on January 1, 2015

So why try again

I will never give up! I have the rest of my life to get it right. However, the healthier I get, the longer I will have! So today - January 1, 2015 - I started my day with weighing in. I like to weigh in my p.j.s first thing in the morning. Today I had a startling surprise - I have gained 7 pounds over the holidays. I thought my weight was staying the same, but who am I kidding. My pants are too tight, I am sluggish and way out of shape. Getting off the toilet is an olympic event some days.

With my knees so bad, it is hard to stand after I sit awhile - so this is why I am trying. I am trying to put off surgery that I don't think I need, along with the fact that I would rather at least, be in better shape to have the surgery.

So what was the weigh in - 237 pounds and on my 5 foot 4 inch frame that is too much. Time to buckle down - so let's start.

Taking it slow - crunching the numbers

Most diet plans don't work when you make it too hard or too many changes all at once. So I started my morning with walking the dog. We went .83 of a mile. I then had warm water with lemon juice and coffee. Coffee is a no no on the Daniel Plan - especially during the detox, but HEY I got a Keurig for Christmas so I am not giving up the joe right away. Lunch was an eclectic plate of leftovers made up of a sliced cucumber with olive oil and feta, ham salad, pickled beets and a leftover piece of garlic bread from the Italian Restaurant last night. It is 1:50 PM and I have had 767 calories so far. I can have 833 more today

I like the app Fat Secret to count my calories. On the Daniel Plan you don't have to count calories - but I am trying to get a idea of how much I am eating right now before I go full fledged into the plan.

Fat Secret suggest 1 pound a week - so to do that I would need 1600 calories a day right now - actually it tells me I can eat up to 2000 - but I think I will stick with the 1600 calories a day for now.

Tonight's dinner is not exactly healthy, it's pork, mash potatoes and sauerkraut, a New Year's Day tradition that I am not willing to break. But good healthy food in that menu is sauerkraut.

SAUERKRAUT - why is it healthy?

  • If unpasteurized and uncooked, sauerkraut also contains live lactobacilli and beneficial microbes and is rich in enzymes. The fiber and supply of probiotics improve digestion and promote the growth of healthy bowel flora, protecting against many diseases of the digestive tract.[21][22]

Why Warm Water with Lemon

I remember many year ago, I was fostering a Bosnian Family in my home. The Father of the family was telling me how to loose weight. Now mind you - he didn't know much English. But he told me - first thing in the morning - take warm water - add Limoan (Lemon) and drink then you walk.

But the more I read the more I understand the health benefits also. All you need to do is google the benefits of drinking water with lemon and you will see - but the reason I do is I have a fatty liver. The things that slow our liver function down are - alcohol, caffeine, Tylenol. Since the liver is a vital part of our digestive system and plays a major role in our metabolism why abuse it. I do - with beer, fatty food and tons of coffee. The lemon in the morning stimulates our digestive system and mine needs more stimulation. In fact my whole bodies needs more but I will start my liver.

What's Next - THE SHOPPING LIST

The only way to have a successful life style change is to bring in the healthy food - to make a healthy environment at home! This is the place to start - from there you can take it outward. With the holiday - my cupboards are low on the healthy and higher in the fat. There is still candy and cookies around along with cheese and ring bologna. I know I will still be eating some of this in the next few days, because like I said - sometime cold turkey doesn't work and I know depriving myself of too much right away doesn't work, as soon as I get healthy alternatives in the house, the better. I love chocolate and I am well stocked with my go to high cacao chocolates, but I need a few more healthy staples. So - to pen and paper I go to write - "The shopping list"

Good luck on your diet. It seems like a good plan and that you're making the right approach.
