North Canton Dentist Sings and Tells Jokes

Getting over your childhood fears

When i was a kid, age 10, I ate more than my fair share of candy. I brushed my teeth 3x a day as I was told, but whatever the chemistry was regarding my mouth, I was laden with cavities. The dentist I went to as a kid scared the heck out of me. The one thing I hated was the novacaine. My childhood dentist could not get the needle right and I always felt that needle going in to my skin, it leaked and the taste of the novacaine was bitter. Needless to say I was not a happy camper. I remember skipping a whole year of visits because i hated going so much.

By the time I hit my preteens, we had moved and so I had to find another dentist. I found another dentist while studying martial arts. he was one of the instructors. Bobby was extremely smart, funny and personable He became my dentist until I was in my mid 20's. He graduated from Tufts Dental School and opened a private practice. It was he who turned my confidence around about dentistry. Dr. Bobby Guen was the painless dentist. I looked forward to my bi-annual cleanings and well as my root canal work.

Most people run from the word dentist. Mention the word dentist and people associate pain. I look forward to my teeth cleanings 2 times a year. I no longer see Dr. Guen. I have since relocated. Due to the fact that I have soft teeth and more plaque prone, preventive care is really important. I can't afford not to go because of my past history with cavities.

Why I love my Dentist Dr. Michalos

If there is one thing I will do is travel the distance to see my dentist, Dr. Michalos. I don't like to drive to far for anything. But, he is an exception. Convenience to me is important. I have to drive one hour, spend a half hour and then drive another hour home. This is half my morning. It is easy to say, just find another dentist. I am not that type of customer. When i find someone like a dentist or doctor, I like to stick with them because they care and put me at ease. " We all do business with people we like."

He and his staff are warm and funny. Dr. Michalos always sings and makes me laugh. He even cracks funny jokes. I enjoy going there to catch up with their lives, even if it is only several times a year. You really can tell if you will like the office by their front-desk staff. It is a reflection of the doctor's personality. Dr. Michalos is a painless and my fave. Come to think of it, I am due next month for a cleaning. I can't wait to catch up!

My criteria in selecting a dentist

1. Must be funny

2. Tell jokes

3. Sing

4. Be good with novacaine needles

5. Gentle when drilling or scraping gums

6. Educate you on your teeth and how to care for them

7. Up-to-date with equipment

8. Be easy to communicate with

9. Provide email and text reminders for appointments

10. Play music that is a a mix of rock and soft rock

Changed my diet and it changed the plague build-up

An interesting thing occurred in my early 30's. Being asian, our diet consists of rice at most meals and are laden with some type of soy sauce products. I started eating less rice and asian foods and the plaque around my teeth lessoned. Asian Rice as we know is high in gluten. (That is the sticky stuff that sticks to your teeth like glue and becomes plaque.) Having said this, I stopped getting cavities! Everyone thinks it is just sugar that causes cavities. I believe breads and pasta can also have a similar affect on the teeth which can cause plaque.

Massaging the gums with automatic toothbrush helps. Rinsing after each meal to keep things away from gums. Hope this helps ! Thanks again for stopping by. Looking forward to see you writing more hubs

I get along well with my dentist and have no fear of dentistry in general. I look forward to the cleanings as it really leaves my mouth feeling good.

I need to floss regularly as it isn't my teeth that are troublesome as much as it is my gums.
