Why Should You Try Tateshi Kazu's Miracle Vegetable Soup?
Most people know that fruits and vegetables have antioxidant properties, which thus can keep us healthy. In fact, it is common knowledge that green tea also has healthful properties. However, people who are sick with diseases such as cancer, hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, and other medical problems may look toward food as treatment and solution. The science of food used to improve our health is known as macrobiotics.
Recently when I told my colleagues that my mother has cancer, one friend who is in remission told me about a miracle vegetable soup that he learned and made himself. There are numerous "miracle vegetable soup" but the one that he recommended came from Tateshi Kazu.
Tateshi Kazu has been a controversial figure. He claimed in his book that his soup could cure cancer in three days as well as other ailments such as senile dementia, rheumatism and acne. Although he claimed to be a doctor, it was exposed that he was never a doctor. However, numerous celebrities in Japan followed the regiment and claimed health benefits, despite his 1994 arrest for conning 10,000 individuals in bogus consultation.
The subject of his claim is a miracle vegetable soup comprised of carrot, daikon, daikon leaves or radish leaves, carrots, dried shittake mushroom, and burdock roots.
- 1 lb. daikon
- 8-10 oz daikon leaves or raddish leaves
- 2-3 carrots
- 8 oz burdock roots
- 2-3 dried shittake mushrooms, sun-dried preferred for Vitamin D
- Wash all vegetables but do not peel.
- Slice and put in a stockpot without any seasoning.
- Add 6-8 cups of water and bring to a boil.
- Simmer for 2 hours.
- Strain and then refrigerate in either glass or metal container.

Health Properties of Burdock Root
Its main property includes blood purifier and cleanser, thus eliminating toxin in the body. It is one of the best herbs for skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, rashes, and dermatitis. It also eases congestion of the lymphatic system and promotes the increase in urination and perspiration, thus cleansing the system of infections and fevers, particularly problems with the bladder or kidney. It is good for those with arthritis, gout, and rheumatism by reducing swelling of the joints and knuckles and decreasing calcification. With its mucilaginous herb, thus decreases the thickness of muscus in the body and is beneficial in treating bronchitis, allergies, and other respiratory problems.
Burdock root contains B-3 (niacin) and vitamin C and is also an excellent source of chromium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, silicon, and zinc.
Health Properties of Daikon
Daikon is high in vitamin C and folacin. It also contains dietary fiber, niacin, riboflavin, vitamin B6, calcium, vitamin B1, iron, zinc, copper, potassium, phosphorus, and magnesium. It is also a blood purifier and is given to patients with jaundice. Like burdock root, daikon also has anti-inflammatory properties, reducing inflammation in urinary tract, preventing kidney infections, removing toxin from the kidneys, and aiding patients with constipation. Studies also have found that it lowers cholesterol and blood pressure.
It is related to broccoli, cabbage, and kale, and as a cruciferous vegetable, it is a super food for preventing cancer and providing energy. Daikons are known for its enzyme property when eaten raw, helping the body digest fat and to discharge excessive fluid through the kidneys. It also helps with reducing mucus and other respiratory problems. Cooked daikon helps eliminate dairy products and reduce fever.
Diakon leaves or radish leaves have all of the nutritious properties as their roots as well as provide a good source of calcium.
Interestingly, the daikon assists the absorption of the beta carotene when combined in a dish with carrots but not when the beta carotene is in a pill form.
Health Properties of Shittake Mushroom
Shittake mushroom has numerous health properties. Native to China, it has been used medicinally 6,000 years ago. It is a good source of iron from a non-animal food source as well as the three B vitamins (B2, B5, and B6), all six minerals (maganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, copper, and zinc), vitamin D2 and protein.
Studies have found that it protects the blood vessels and enhances immune function, even suppressing the immune system if needed. Shittake mushroom can activate immune cells called macrophage, which is responsible for identifying and clearing potentially cancerous cells from the body.It can help block the growth of tumors by programmng the cell death in cancer cells. It also contains polysaccharides, which also promotes the immune system in its defense against exercise stress, exposure to inflammation-producing toxins, radiation exposure, and immunodeficiency.
Researches have also documented cardiovascular benefits such as reduction in cholesterol and promotion of the antioxidant support of the cardiovascular system thus preventing atherosclerosis (clogged arteries). Ongoing oxygen-based damage to blood vessel linings factors into the development of clogged arteries and other blood vessel problems.
Health Properties of Carrots
Carrots belong to the same family as parsnips, fennel, parsley, anise, caraway, cumin and dill. Carrots are a good source of vitamins A, K, and C as well as fiber and potassium.
It is common knowledge that eating carrots will promote the health of your eyes. There was a lower rate of glaucoma shown in those who ate carrots twice per week. A new 10-year study from the Netherlands showed the intake of carrot reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. Carrot juice has positive affect in the area of colon cancer.
Shortly after hearing about this soup, I went to a Japanese market to gather the ingredients. I also learned that the Japanese term for burdock root is gobo. Although I have seen toothpick size pickled burdock roots at Japanese stores, I was surprised that the raw burdock roots that are sold are very long roots. They average 3 feet and costs about $1.5 per pound. I find mine in packages of 2 roots, weighing about a pound.
I drank about 1-2 cups per day. Typically one needs about 2-3 cups for maximum benefit. I am developing a taste for it. It taste like bland vegetable stock. One Sunday, I wanted to finish what was left in a plastic container (I didn't have enough glass containers) and since it was refrigerated, I decided not to drink it through a straw in one or two sips. Instead, I nursed the vegetable soup all afternoon through a straw. I recommend using a straw because if you don't clean these root vegetables well, you'll find dirt settled at the bottom of your soup.I discovered that I was quite alert and clear-headed and wasn't even hungry. Shockingly, I didn't even think about food and thus didn't even snack. I also found that I was breathing better. I was pleasantly surprised but not a total convert.
Since I was just becoming acclimated to the routine of drinking this soup, I was not drinking the quantity recommended but instead drank a cup every other day or so and also blended a smoothie with the same stewed vegetables in it (see below). One day about 4 weeks after drinking the vegetable soup, I had a chance to ask my daughter to bring me my wedding ring that I had not been able to wear since my first pregnancy in 2000. I researched and dieted but made no impact in reducing the size of my left ring finger, which was a size 6.5. To my surprise, the wedding ring glided onto and off of my finger without any effort. At this point I realized that there was positive proof that I am receiving some miraculous health properties, in this case the reduction in swelling of my knuckles. I have gone to work, shown a number of my coworkers who have been coping with one illness or another how I can now slip the ring right off my finger with ease, and sent them the recipe.
Recently, I have noticed that when I am still at work at 6 P.M., I stayed alert and awake without any additional cup of green tea in the afternoon or evening. When I drank the soup in the morning, I did not need any caffeine to stay awake or alert and that my cup of green tea at work was optional. I didn't even need to eat anything for breakfast and had gotten away with the soup early morning and then nuts and raisin mid-morning.
I have also noticed no sign of a problem focusing my vision when I am looking afar. I used to have blurred vision, and then when I measured my blood pressure, there seemed to be an elevation. Now, I don't have any vision issues.
Finally, I didn't want to waste the solids and have either blended into a smoothie with bananas, berries, and juice or made a quick curry with these already cooked vegetables and Japanese curry sauce package.
