Why are oranges so good for you?

Updated on March 15, 2013

An orange a day keeps them free radicals away.

Oranges are abundant in vitamins, nutrients and minerals that are essential for normal growth and development. Also they are tasty!

Oranges are free radical scavengers. They are a class of citrus fruits that are rich in anti oxidants namely vitamin C. It is these properties that help revitalize our skin during an orange fruit facial. An anti oxidant is a molecule that prevents oxidation reactions that occurs in a cell. Oxidation of cell would generally start a chain reaction that would cause free radical generation and believe me free radicals aren't your friends.

Phytochemicals are an important class of compounds present in oranges. Flavonoids found in citrus fruits are found to have anti-inflammatory and immune system modulating effects. It is also a very good source of vitamins such as thiamin, pyridoxine and folates which are essential vitamins that can be obtained only through a well rounded diet.

There are endless varieties of oranges found throughout the world..so pick one up and devour it because oranges are good for you.

A simple homemade facial :

Peel the orange. Dry the orange peel. (Sun drying)

Finely powder the dried peel.

Make a paste( with water) of good consistency. Apply the pack as you wish to obtain a radiant, fresh look.

For better results a combination of neem powder and orange peel powder can be used.

Make an ORANGE juice:

Peel the orange skin and clean the orange.

Transfer them into a blender. Add cool water/ ice (depending upon your preference.

Add 2 table spoon sugar. (WARNING! Adding sugar makes it less healthy and slightly calorific)

This method is better than a juicer because this way all the fiber is retained. And fiber is good for you.
