Wild Salmon Oil – A Natural Source of Omega 3 Fatty Acids

The growth in popularity of fish oil supplements has been nothing short of extraordinary due to the many health benefits provided by the fatty acids they contain. Fish happens to be one of the richest known sources of the Omega 3 fatty acids DHA and EPA. Omega 3 is considered an essential fatty acid and one the human body cannot produce on its own. What this means is for our body to enjoy the associated health benefits, we must either consume enough naturally through our diets or through proper supplementation.

This is where wild salmon oil can come into play by helping to give your body a safe and rich natural source of these super healthy fatty acids that can offer a countless number of nutritional advantages. It is widely believed that the medical profession is just scratching the surface when it comes to fully understanding how beneficial these can be across a wide range of health issues and concerns.

The Health Benefits

According to the Mayo Clinic, studies have shown some of the known values to include a lowering of the triglyceride levels in the blood, a reduction in the risk of experiencing a heart attack, a slowing of the buildup of harmful plaques in the arteries, and a mild lowering of blood pressure.

Several prominent published studies have shown that Omega 3 fatty acids specifically delivered through fish oil may play an important role in reducing the risk of developing cancer of the breast, colon, and prostate. In addition, it is thought to offer improvement in areas such as memory, focus, mood balance, and maintaining physical fitness. Some experts claim it could even play a crucial role in disease prevention. This has led to a rapid growth in popularity as more and more doctors have started recommending it to patients.

Why not just eat more fish? For those who enjoy eating fish as part of a regular diet, it would be wonderful if it was just that simple. While you can certainly get many of the nutritional advantages from consuming fish directly, there are several good reasons to do so in moderation and make up the difference with a good supplement.

Unfortunately, more and more evidence is surfacing showing that fish on its own can contain trace amounts of dangerous and potentially toxic chemicals such as mercury and several others. Over time, these can build up in your body and present health risks of their own. Most supplements use a rigorous process for distilling to remove mercury, PCBs, and other heavy metals ensuring the purity of the salmon oil supplements and making sure that you get the nutritional value you need without anything harmful.

One of the most common questions I'm asked about Omega 3 supplements is if they are for humans or for dogs. The quick and easy answer is that they can be great for both! You have already read about some of the tremendous health values they can offer you. They can also be highly beneficial for your pet as well by providing a soft shiny coat, improved joint function, and much more.

When you buy a supplement, just be sure to select one that is formulated for humans if it is for you and for dogs if you are looking for something for your pet. Most everything on the market will clearly state the intended use so you can purchase the right variety.

To realize the full nutritional value of an Omega 3 supplement, you should take one to two capsules daily as part of your morning routine. There are several different varieties to choose from. Personally, I like to use a Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Oil because the percentage of Omega 3s is in excess of 25% and it gives you a healthy dose of the vital EPA and DHA components. Sockeye Salmon also contains a powerful antioxidant which may help your body to protect itself against the damaging effects of unstable free radicals.

Buy in Bulk to Save Money

One way to get the most value for your money is to buy larger economy sized packages. Most standard size bottles will contain anywhere from 90 to 270 capsules depending on the manufacturer. You can realize significant savings by ordering in bulk if you know you are going to continue to take your supplements regularly. This is an especially good idea if you have a large family or if more than one person in your household is taking it along with you.

      Great post! In regards to Jacki's comment about children, the chewable Omega 3's have been a big hit at work. Yes, the chew tastes like a vitamin but it resembles a Starburst. It is more of a little treat than a vitamin. For children and adults alike, this chewable is a game changer.

      I have tried Omega 3 to combat hereditary Rheumatoid Arthritis and not only do my joints feel better but my hair is silkier and I do feel more mentally alert.

      Surprisingly, and very sadly, I don't believe we have minimum daily requirements and many of us struggle with diseases that could be readily thwart with Omega 3.

      What is the difference, if any, of the Krill? Just the source? Or are there other nutritional differences?

      Yes, I definitely take fish oil. Krill oil is another alternative. Besides eating wild salmon, sardines is just as high in omega-3.

      My pedeatrician explained wild salmon fish oil is benefitical for ADHD. Problem is my son of 5 years won't eat any food if I have to pierce the capsule and put in his food (you can still taste it) and I can't find "wild salmon" fish oil in kids flavoured gel size caps. For now he's on standard fish oil . . . there's a market for a vitamin company to take up!

      What do you lend money or a helping hand.......just kidding.:D

      I don't take any kind of Vitamins other than just Homeopathic remedies for many years already. I know there are 3 kinds of Omega3's 3,6 & 9 may be you should explain those too.

      Your hub is interesting on this topic. If anyone is eating healthy they don't need Vitamins because access of Vitamins can be harmful too.

      Great article. Besides the known health benefits of taking fish oil, it's also a wonderful treatment for kids with eczema. My son suffers with horrible outbreaks of eczema, I give him fish oil supplements and it really seems to help.

      Yeah, my mom bought several different supplements, and I used to take them as required; Unfortunately I got a bit skeptical about taking supplements and stopped.

      Thanks for the reminder to take my fish oil. I have read a book on the subject and still forget sometimes.

      The benefits seem to be great. Dr. Barry Sears has been a big supporter. Other well nutritionists and authorities agree.

      One thing I have noticed is that even when these health experts disagree on many things, fish oil is usually one they DO agree on.
