What exactly is a Yeast Infection?

When people talk about yeast infection, some would immediately think that it is a disease only acquired by women. True, women are the ones who are commonly plagued with it, the vaginal infection in particular. However, Candidiasis doesn't choose any gender or age. Anyone can get it, even babies.

This condition comes in many forms and it can affect any part of the body.

Yeast naturally exists in the body. The good bacteria in the system keep them from multiplying. However, certain factors destroy these bacteria making the body prone to yeast outbreak. Birth control pills, steroids, antibiotics, unhealthy diet, unhygienic environment and other factors can make you vulnerable.

Candidiasis is a type of infection that is caused by the Candida fungi. The infection can occur underneath skin folds, lower abdomen, breast area, around dentures and even the nail beds. With women, the vaginal area is the most common place where yeast infection occurs. It is more likely to transpire as the person ages. However, anyone can still acquire it, even infants.

Symptoms of Yeast Infections in Men

Men who have yeast infection usually don't notice any symptoms until the yeast has spread through their entire body and it is too late to just use some over-the counter medications or cream to treat it.

That is why it is important to pay attention to any slight discomfort or symptom that might indicate you have a yeast infection.

Here are the most common symptoms men experience:

  • read spots on the tip of the penis
  • sever itch in the genital area
  • you can see some white lesions on the penis
  • swelling of the penis
  • you are easily irritated
  • vision gets blurry
  • you are constantly hungry and crave for all sorts of foods.
  • pain during urination
  • pain or a burning sensation during intercourse

If you experience any of these symptoms, best thing to do is consult with your doctor as soon as possible.

Most probably he will prescribe you a shock dose of medication which will stop the Candida from spreading and growing. Don't forget that in order to keep these symptoms away, you need to make a few changes in your lifestyle, starting with your diet.

Natural Cures for Yeast Infections

Yeast infection can be easily treated, if you deal with the issue right away. Severe cases may prove to be harder to deal with. However, with proper medication and appropriate treatments, you can get rid of your infection in no time. Listed below are different natural cures for yeast infections:

Genetian violet

Genetian violet is a type of component that is used as fungicide, biological stain and bactericide. To use it, simply paint it on the vulva, vagina and cervix. Don't forget to wear a panty liner or pad since it can stain the undergarments.

Extracts of grapefruit seed and olive leaf is a great cure for yeast infection. Avoid sugary drinks as this is a big NO.

Cotton cloth

When you have yeast infection in the genital area, refrain from using synthetic underwear since it will just add discomfort to the affected area. Use cotton clothes and underwear instead as it allows air to flow freely, providing relief to the genital area.

Potassium sorbate

Potassium sorbate is a solution commonly used for beer making. To use it, simply put a 3% solution to clean cotton tampon. Insert this to the vagina and leave it there overnight.

Curing yeast infection is easy, if you know the right solutions. Treatment options may vary depending on the condition of the individual and personal preference. Proper knowledge can bring you a long way. Natural cures for yeast infection work for many people; it should have the same effect on you.

Best Foods for Treating Yeast Infection

You should understand tht there is no maginc diet or a magic food that will get rid of your yeast infection once and for all. Some of the food items can have incredible effects, but you have to combine it with others in order to gete the desired results.

There are plenty of foods you can eat that will help you treat your yeast infection faster. I am sure you may have heard about some of them, but because this is an informational hub, I will list them below so anyone can read about them and include them in their diet.

  • Galric. I am starting with garlic simply because this is the so called "wonder food". It contains so many anti-oxidatns which helps you get rid of free radicals, and it help you fight the yeast infectin by strengthening the immune system and reducing the Candida bacteria. Try to eat garlic at each meal. If you can't stand the smell or the taste, you can replace them with garlic capsules.
  • Cultured foods. Including cultured food such as yogurt, sauerkraut and other fermented foods will also greatly help you treat the yeast infection. By eating these you will introduce good bacteria in your body, re-establishing the balance between good and bad bacteria, which probably was the main reason you got the infection
  • Fresh vegetables and fruits. Green vegetables are very beneficial for your health. Recommended thing is to drink a freshly squeezed jucie each morning, made out of some green vegetables (a celery root, some aprsley, a cucumber0 and a green apple or a pear. This way all those nutrients reach the blood steam a lot faster.
  • Drink plenty of water each day. If you are not doing this already, then please start drinking at least 1,5 lietrs of pure water each day (1 liter in the worst case scenario). This will help your body eliminate toxic build-up from your system, and along with all those toxins it will also gete rid of the Candida.

Hopefully these few tips will help you get started on eating healthier. You need to do this if you want to get rid of your yeast infection once and for all.

A study of fungal infections in the male genital area.

      Colin Smith,

      January 2013

Dhobi itch, crotch rot and other related fungal infections of the male genital area can be persistent, uncomfortable, disabling and long lasting. Since the time man decided to enrobe his genitals, it is quite possible that this was the starting point of these troublesome infections. Surely, as we were born naked and man’s genitalia is outside the body, the intention was for air to flow freely in this area and for the humidity to be low.

The symptoms caused by these organisms can be very unpleasant and although they are not life threatening they can be very unpleasant and quality of life depreciating.

Incidence of these infections have been recorded for centuries. For example, the widespread incidence of dhobi itch suffered by British troops during the Indian and other campaigns, is well reported(Indian J Dermatol. 2011 Jul-Aug; 56(4): 363–367). One can only imagine the prolonged hell these men suffered in the heat of India, being forced to wear an unwashed course cloth uniform and no effective means of treatment, in addition to all the other problems they had to endure.

Reviewing the postings on many web blogs, the problem still seems to be very widespread today, with few reports of a long term solution., et al

      The Symptoms:

      The symptoms are various;

It can be just an itchy rash around the top of the legs and groin area which comes and goes.

A painful reddening of the scrotum which causes the scrotum sack to shrink and harden and squeeze the testicles, causing prolonged discomfort and misery, sometimes even causing the gonads to retract into the abdomen.

An itchy, long term infection of the glans (balanitis)

      An infection of the rectum

An infection of the scrotum hair follicles (folliculitis)

This paper discusses the many complex inter overlapping and interrelated cycles involved in the spread and persistence of these infections. This paper also explores a number of new scenarios which could be contributing factors in a cure and suggests others which will require further research.

      The Problem:

There are a many organisms and factors which could be involved. They could be present as an individual species or a number of species, all acting individually, but presenting jointly, similar symptoms. There are probably many more yet to be identified and continuing mutations of the existing ones. Once some of these organisms come into contact with the human body, if not dealt with quickly, they can become a persistent, deep seated problem and may cause an infection which could last many years or even a lifetime, causing much discomfort, embarrassment and distress.

      Some of the most common species are;

Trichophyton rubrum is a fungus that is the most common cause of athlete's foot, jock itch, and a form of ringworm .

Tinea Cruris is also known as crotch itch, crotch rot, dhobi itch, eczema marginatum, gym itch, jock itch, jock rot ringworm of the groin . Ringworm of the groin is a dermatophyte fungal infection similar to, but different from Candidal intertrigo, which is an infection of the skin by Candida albicans. It is more specifically located between intertriginous folds of adjacent skin, which can be present in the groin, scrotum or rectum, and be indistinguishable from fungal infections caused by tinia. However, candidal infections tend to both appear and disappear with treatment more quickly.  It is also worth noting that tinea cruris generally does not infect the scrotum.

Candida albicans is a diploid fungus that grows both as yeast and filamentous

cells and a causal agent of opportunistic oral and genital infections in humans. Hospital-acquired infections by C. albicans have become a cause of major health concerns.

      C. albicans is commensal and a constituent of the normal gut flora comprising micro organisms that live in the human mouth and gastrointestinal tract. C. albicans lives in 80% of the human population without causing harmful effects, although overgrowth of the fungus results in candidiasis(candidosis).

A common form of candidiasis restricted to the mucosal membranes in the mouth or vagina is thrush, which is usually easily cured in people who are not immunocompromised. To infect host tissue, the usual unicellular yeast-like form of C. albicans reacts to environmental cues and switches into an invasive, multicellular filamentous form, a phenomenon called dimorphism.

      Trichophyton mentagrophytes

Trichophyton is a dermatophyte which inhabits the soil, humans or animals. Related to its natural habitats, the genus includes anthropophilic, zoophilic, and geophilic species. Trichophyton is one of the leading causes of hair, skin, and nail infections in humans. Most of the Trichophyton species have teleomorphic forms and these teleomorphs are classified in the genus Arthroderma.

       Epidermophyton floccosum.

The fungus is the only pathogen of the two species comprising genus Epidermophyton. Hosts of the fungi are humans, wild animals, and domestic animals.  The fungi can cause tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea corporis, and onychomycosis. The infection spreads by contact, especially in gyms and showers. The infection may be stopped by bathing with soap and water and applying an appropriate fungicide.  The fungus may be transmitted between humans and other mammals including squirrels. The fungi can usually only infect the nonliving cornified layers of epidermis, however, an invasive infection has been recorded.

      Malassezia furfur,

pityrosporum folliculitis (PF) is an inflammatory skin disorder that typically manifests as a pruritic, follicular papulopustular eruption distributed on the upper trunk of young to middle-aged adults.

Yeasts, specifically Malassezia furfur, are the pathogenic agents in Pityrosporumfolliculitis. M furfur has been linked to several skin diseases, including seborrheic dermatitis, folliculitis, pityriasis versicolor, and atopic dermatitis

These 2 yeast species, collectively with fungal forms, are classified as M furfur because Pityrosporum folliculitis is caused by Malassezia species that are part of the cutaneous microflora and not by exogenous species.

Typical life cycle of pathogenic fungi

Fungi include moulds, yeasts and higher fungi are all eukaryotic. (an organism whose cells contain complex structures enclosed within membranes) They are chemoheterotrophs (requiring organic nutrition) and most are aerobic. Many fungi are also saprophytes (living off dead organic matter) in soil and water and acquire their food by absorption. Characteristically they also produce sexual and asexual spores. There are over 100,000 species recognised, with 100 infectious agents of man. Moulds are composed of numerous, microscopic, branching hyphae known collectively as a mycelium. There are many, as yet unidentified organisms, which may also be involved. Some of these organisms will be prevalent in other countries and are spread globally due to international travel.

      Other factors:

The organisms involved are natural survivors, they have been on this planet much longer than us. It is therefore not surprising that they have developed effective survival methods. Understandings these mechanisms are important for effective eradication. The human body is host to billions of organisms essential for our survival. Generally, these organisms are beneficial provided the stay in their allocated place. It is when they migrate or are moved to another part of the body or another mammal that problems may occur.

Once a colony is established it is unlikely to be easily removed as the organism has found Utopia and it will do all it can to stay there. Any treatment involving the application of an epidermal medication to the genital area, must also include the rectum, anus and skin folds in the rectal area as these sites are where a ‘backup’ colony will be waiting in the wings. They may well also establish ‘back up’ colonies in other parts of the body such as
