Yoga Posters

Updated on March 14, 2015

The majority of the world is very much like me, they learn by seeing and doing. Having a poster to guide us is key to learning a new skill. This is very much true with exercise. Exercise is a skill - the many different movements demand guidance. What better way to help explain and guide than a poster detailing where the legs and arms are during the movement. Yoga is a great exercise program and has many great benefits beyond just stretching the muscles. Yoga will build strength, it will help the circulatory system, it will help your mindset and improve your life. Journey with us as we detail the many benefits of yoga and review a number of great yoga posters. See firsthand the essential yoga poses and learn how those poses help your body.

Yoga Benefits

Exercise of any sort is great for the mind and the body. Yoga combines both together. For many, the lack of impact upon their joints is the resounding benefits of yoga and yet the muscles are being worked, extended, strengthened and stretched.

Yoga is a form of exercise - perhaps much gentler and kinder than weightlifting and aerobics. Most definitely drier than swim fitness but nonetheless, yoga is a great exercise program.

Yoga like strength training concentrated upon deep breathing. It is the deep breathing that delivers oxygen to our muscles and organs.

As the poster below details, yoga benefits our circulatory system, our skeleton system and our mental outlook.

Personally, I believe no drug should ever be prescribed for depression or anxiety without a prescription for exercise. Yoga is an exercise program that is just right for everyone. Yes, it looks slow because it is. It is the slower movements that take strength and stability.

Take your exercise program home and pick up a yoga poster to guide you through this great program.

Essential Yoga Exercises

If you are unfamiliar with yoga, we have provided below some of the essential yoga exercises such as the lunge, the downward dog and the sun salutation. As we have detailed, yoga is great for the lungs, the muscles and for stability. But it is also good for knee joints. Muscles are the armor that protect our joints. This is especially true for the knees.

Yoga posters make a great gift for someone you love. Yoga posters are fantastic for the home gym. The variety of the poses given in the posters are extensive. What the posters don't always showcase is the importance of deep breathing. Building up your lunge capacity is just as important as your heart muscle, leg muscles and your abs. Your aim should be a full body workout - so please don't forget the lungs.

Yoga Pose - Plank

Yoga Plank Exercise

The plank is a great exercise for strength and for stability. A strong core is essential in preventing injuries from trips and falls. Yoga is a testament to longevity. The plank is a hard exercise, the slow controlled movement of yoga combined with proper deep breathing.

The photo to the right is the side plank pose. Be sure to do the exercise evenly on both sides. As I say to my clients - no favorite children, no favorite sides. It is essential for our health to keep our muscles in balance. The only exception is during an injury - follow your therapist advice.

Yoga Lunge Exercise

Lunges are so misunderstood. IF done correctly, lunges are one of the best exercises for your body. Remember, our longest and largest muscles are in our legs. Lunges target tone our leg muscles and can speed weight loss. If we can change our muscle structure, we can change metabolism.

Why are lunges misunderstood? Because of the knees. It appears that the lunge would engage the knee joint - however, for those who are healthy, when the lunge is performed properly, the lunge engages the muscles that protect the knee joint.

Downward Dog Yoga Exercise

Downward dog is a fantastic exercise for the lower back muscles and the hamstrings (the muscles behind the knee). Downward dog stretches the muscles that your back needs. Additionally, downward dog is helpful for aging females over 40. Females over 40 have a high probability of experiencing a frozen shoulder. The name frozen shoulder doesn't do the illness justice because it is extremely painful and almost fully debilitating. Stretches are key to preventing injuries. A regular exercise program such as yoga is great for both the mind and the body.

If you ever wondered like me what the pose has to do with a downward dog - check out the photo that showcases this playful canine pose.

I love posters and the Yoga Posters I believe showcases the many utilitarian exercise movements. So many people think Yoga is easy and it can be but that doesn't mean it cannot be taken up a level to more complicated exercise movements. I want one of these posters for my "yet to be" home gyym.

      albohm27,

Yoga is great for our entire whole body - mind and soul, flexibility. We often fall prey to our desks. Yes, our smart devices and our desk are preying upon our muscles. We must actively fight against this stiffness and Yoga is wonderful. The warrior pose looks easy but oh the muscles you use the and the stretching - very therapeutic in providing flexibility and strengthens your core too.

This is great: packed with information. I particularly like the graphics showing the various poses. I have already eased my shoulder tightness doing the warrior pose. I like the info on how yoga effects the whole system. Great Hub! Thank you.

      James,

I appreciate your honesty! A real man tells the truth! Always! Fitness classes are a great way to meet people, change your perspective, your social circle and sometimes sculpt your body too!

I believe Yoga is under appreciated. I wish the hospitals would do an introduction on yoga and other exercises for their patients. The muscles protect our joints, protect our emotions and lessen the need for corrective drugs. Providing exercises as a preventative measure at hospitals should be a weekly event, we should have educated and train on body weight exercises, stretches and yoga at hospitals.

My mantra has been as a hospital volunteer to take the stairs. The stairs should not be reserved for an emergency.

Progressive hospital management staff should take the initiative to promote the use of their stairways, not just for the patients but also for the employees. What a better example to showcase exercise than nurses and doctors taking the stairs.

Interestingly, when I volunteered my volunteer partner and I would always take the stairs-the only staff members we ran into were doctors! Nurses often commented, they didn't know the stairs were even there! We must change this negative perspective of exercise.

This is great stuff. Thank you for publishing this fine article. I have learned some of these positions from Denise Austin. And I once took a Yoga class at a local college. But I must confess my motiviation was to meet chicks. :D

It was a long time ago.
